i had to come here and post about this.

my parents who have dutifully shunned me for nearly 9 years had the nerve to ask me for money.

it wasn't for food, a car payment, house payment or anything like that.

Unfortunately, Christianity has a lot to do with being a doormat.

good point.

it's too bad...jesus seemed like such a smart guy too...(there comes a point when it is no longer healthy mentally to continue to "turn the other cheek," and "love thy enemy," etc.)

I have no regrets about what I said to my "father". If I had to do it over again I would blast him again and then tell him to put mom on the phone and blast her too. I could hear her talking in the background. I am not going to call them and make peace. My door is closed to them. I thought about this all night and I think the only way I could allow them in my life is if they left the dubs. Otherwise they would still be emotionally abusive and dense.

amen! i feel exactly as you do, except for one small thing. even if my family left the cult, they would not be automatically welcomed back. it would take YEARS before that was even a possibility.

as far as parents "deserving" respect...i've said it before, but having sex and giving birth only count for so much and only deserve so much respect. for a parent to continue being respectable, they need to BE A PARENT in an emotional sense in addition to the physical sense. my parents threw away any "rights" they may have had to respect long ago.

never feel bad for not being a doormat.

ok so anyway i have been fading for a little over a year now.

during that time i have been primarily focusing on improving my social skills: reconnecting with old high school pals, trying to make sense of the world, trying to connect with others, opening myself up to new belief systems, activities.

now that i am becoming more comfortable around people i am considering pursuing a relationship with someone.

they say that guys tend to treat women in relationships how they treat their mother. i don't know how true it is across the board, but i tend to take things out on my lady (esp family frustrations). at first, while i was still learning to cope with the shunning and learning to deal with the relationship, i would have wild, terrible mood swings and i would end up getting upset at her for something stupid like leaving dirty dishes in the sink. with time, i've learned to express myself better so that if i'm pissed about something (or depressed, or whatever) i stop and figure out what is making me feel that way before just getting pissed at my girlfriend.

it sounds like a no-brainer, but if your family shuns you you might want to pay attention to that.

so my b-day is this month on the 22nd...whoop!whoop!...anyway.

too young? nah....u forget, girls fully mature mentally at around 16....or is that physically?....

i've read that women reach their peak around 30-35 and for men its between 18 and 22 or so. but i think that's sexually. that's what you meant by physical, right?
