Here are a couple of things I often wonder about:
Why do earthworms commit suicide when it rains by climbing out on the sidewalk?
Where do flies go at night?

Have you experienced a Tornado?
by jeanniebeanz intoday, a small tornado touched down in south san francisco and people went nutz.
it was very localized and basically blew out a few windows, but looking at the local news you'd think that the sky was falling.
since some of you live in 'tornado alley', can you please enlighten us californians as to what you consider to be a 'real' tornado?

Yes, it was the scariest thing I've ever experienced. I spent a few years of my childhood living in north central Missouri. A tornado hit the school when I was in 7th grade. They made the kids sit in the hallway when it hit. The noise was tremendous. A huge roar, things expoding (actually the house next to the school), glass breaking. Dirt filled the air. Something I never want to experience again.
Thank goodness we moved back to Western Colorado a few months later where tornadoes are extremely rare.

Throughout, Butler fights to keep her dignity intact and minimise the impact of the drug P, on both herself and Dixon.
Is this drug P the same as meth in the U.S.? Sure sounds like it. It causes all kinds of psychological problems.

Amazon.com
by Billygoat inyesterday i ordered something from amazon.com.
i wanted the package quickly (today), so i chose one-day delivery.
afterwards, i got my receipt and it said it'd arrive on the 25th.

Amazon is getting slower and slower. If you choose the free shipping, it takes almost two weeks for the stuff to arrive.
I ordered from Barnes and Noble the last time and the books were delivered 3 days later like the old days with Amazon. I'll be using B&N from now on.

Ozzie's UnWeekend Poll
by ozziepost inthis week's question is:.
if you were marooned on a desert island, what drink would you die for?.
1. shiraz.

Chloe
A diet coke with cherry flavoring from Sonic. I am such a creature of habit that I get one every Sunday (after 2 pm of course when drinks are half price.)
Maybe I should try Shiraz?

Will they ever be mainstream?
by Justin insome religions which have been on the fringe of society are eventually accepted into the mainstream because they have an aspect which is socially acceptable or beneficial to society.
for example, the seventh day adventists have hospitals and the mormons have the tabernacle choir.
but the jws seem to have nothing with which to appeal to the larger culture.

I work at a Catholic hospital and see every month the millions (yes, millions) of dollars in charity care the hospital gives away. This from a fairly small hospital but it serves a large rural area where people wouldn't receive treatment otherwise. Yeah, I guess you could call it "commendable." A magazine would probably be much more appreciated.

How many here are married to a witness?
by Why Georgia injust wondering how many others there are like me who are married to a witness who is either actively going or fading away?
i have found that even though my husband is fading away - he still has a lot of those witness thoughts.. it's definately better that he is away from them and not getting their "spiritual food (vomit)".
but i still have worries when his mother calls and invites us to the memorial or tries to give us the latest book.. i feel my blood pressure just about go through the roof.. i'm glad there are places like this board to talk with people and get support from real " friends".

Pulled at my heart strings
by Purza inso on christmas day we were staying with my fiancee's parents.
my fiancee was not feeling well and i offered to go to 7-eleven to get him some pepto (this was about 8:30 a.m.) this older man (probably in his 70s) asked me if they had any milk that was less than a gallon container.
i said that i didn't work there, but i went over and found a half gallon for him.

This really got to me. My parents have been married 55 years. My mom broke her hip a couple of months ago and has been in a nursing home since then. She'll probably never get to live at home again.
This has been so hard on my dad, too. He goes and sees her every day but it's just not the same.
She is lucky, though because she has him and two daughters that go see her every day. There are so many people there that don't have anyone ever visit.
