Does disfellowshipping work?
by what_Truth? ini am going to conduct a little pseudoscientific experiment here.
my hope is to prove without a doubt that disfellowshipping causes more problems for the jw's than it solves.
to do this i will ask all of you who voluntarily left: .

An Elder Told Me.... Many To Be Disfellowshipped Soon...
by Doubtfully Yours inan elder told me the book is jehovah's latest provision to cleanse his organization.. he said soon all people that have drifted, inactives, and others baptized and not complying with the biblical mandates for a jw, will be visited and given an option to shape up or ship out.. he said that if the person refuses the help offered by the congregation they'll be notified of the date of disfellowshipping and given time to appeal the decision.. he was so happy stating that this way jehovah's organization was preparing for the final clean-up before armageddon.
he sounded so convincing that it almost made perfect sense what he was saying.
i got goose bumps listening to his reasoning.. dy

I tend to agree with Doubtfully, from what I know of the organization, it is entirely plausible that they would embark on a "sifting" of this nature, and completely compatible with the philosophy I recall hearing over the years about what will happen during the "time of the end" (i.e. doors of the ark closing).
I don't think there are any legal implications, nor do I think it will really hurt them - the faithful will be reinforced through society propaganda to believe that this is further proof of having god's blessing, and they will be scared sh**less of daring to drift.

thanks for this posting, Ezekial. I learned the original chapter from the old OD book by memory when I was df'd. It does seem that they are preparing a case to df or da pretty much anyone who no longer associates, regardless of what they may be doing.
Unfortunately, the elders never followed these guidelines in my case, they made up their own rules. for example, they told me (when I requested reinstatement 4 months into it) that I was disrespectful of the society because the OM book said it had to be a minimum of a year. I knew it didn't say that, and challenged them. Of course my impertenence simply added a couple more months onto my sentence.
The wording of the announcement also implies something else, in my opinion. It implies that anyone who is df'd or da'd is rejecting the religion because they are no longer one of JW's. Many people (including myself at the time) still consider themselves JW's even if they have committed a sin worthy of df'ing. In addition, putting DA and DF together in the same terminology is a way to really tighten control. It seems to me that now any deviance, however small, will be used as an excuse, as Minimum says, to get rid of everyone.

Memorial
by Lehaa inhad other things to deal with.. .
i was just wonder ing whose going to the memorial this year.. i got this email from my uncle today and i've decided i'm going only so my kids can see their family.
if you love jehovah miss your extended family want your children to have everlasting life its not hypocritical.

But Lehaa, I should add that I really struggled with non-attendance for several years, so I understand how difficult it can be for you, particularly with that kind of pressure from family.

not going. do not intend to ever go again. Why would I? To add to the numbers of "interested" people the WBTS will proudly display in their totals next March? To give my family false hope that I still feel a need to attend what they consider the most important night of the year? To give them reason to think I might come back someday? my children have thanked me for freeing them by taking the lead in leaving - I would rather give them a good example by staying true to the whole, healthy, sane person I've now become.

Add me to the Shatner fan club. Love Star Trek, and Boston Legal is excellent - a standout in "reality"-saturated tv land.
