Dont' recall the details, but there was a CO and his wife who visited a remote group in Africa where spiritism was practiced. All night long the demons tried to get into their tent, shaking it, banging on it, etc., but were unsuccessful because the two of them just kept praying out loud and saying Jah's name.

The John Denver story is an old one - I first heard it from a Bethelite in about 1985, who claimed that she was actually at the concert.
I was at the Vancouver convention when the Glen Campbell story went around, too. I seem to recall someone afterwards discovered that there was a person on the baptism list with that name, but it wasn't "the" Glen Campbell, of course.
There was a bizarre story going around during the Malawi days. We had done this major letter-writing campaign. The rumour then came back that the high bishop who had been responsible for ordering the abuse of the witnesses who would not buy a membership card had been arrested as a result of our letters and had been seen chained to a wall in the prison.

One university in Western Canada (I don't recall which) offers a scholarship that pays the whole undergrad tuition for a foreign student, including living expenses.

the only base track I can find is the "official" piano track. I don't see it in the other instrumentals. But it should work for laying down vocals, true?

I'll contribute a voice - the reason I suggested Audacity is that it's open source and anyone can download it and use it without needing professional sound equipment. There might be better possibilities. I've kind of been out of the singing/recording field for a while, but I did a fun rap parody for my day job last year using Audacity. I couldn't believe how well it turned out just using a generic back track and dubbed vocals with my PC microphone.

The biggest factor in allowing child sex abuse to continue is secrecy. And you are correct Rip - no community is safe. It exists everywhere. But it is more rampant in some places and I wonder why.
I recently counselled a native woman who was raped by a chief. He was also the religious leader of the community and had sexually abused many women. She is a highly educated community advocate, so she laid charges. She had also been sexually abused as a child, and she wanted to make a difference for her people by raising awareness of how rampant the abuse is in the community. She lost her case, unfortunately, but the worst part was that she was actually ostracized and shunned by her own community. Their viewpoint was that "white man's" laws should not be followed, and that "white man's" justice had no place on the reserve. Any crimes, rape, murder, were to be kept completely within the community and nature/god would take care of the matter.

ya know - there are some interesting possibilities. If someone created a basic back track, several of us could contribute vocals or other pieces via Audacity.

Sickening.
This problem is endemic in many native populations in Canada as well.

So not only were you forced to be separate from the rest of the world, you were isolated within the community. That must have been very lonely for you and very difficult, particularly when you think of how teenagers want to fit in and be accepted.
