first up, happy new year .
hi everyone, ok i guess this is controversial, but im doing it as therapy for me - so im not bitter about the way i was raised.
plus i want to see if i can be the op of an "epic thread"!!.
My childhood memories were okay, average. I didnèt know any different, really. But my dad was not a JW, so we had lots of good times that were outside the religion.
We had fun travelling to large assemblies with my mom. It was an adventure.
but overall, sorry. I really wish I had not been raised a JW.
well it has been an interesting year for me; some heartache; some growth; and a lot of change.
regardless of where we are on our journey away from the jehovahs witnesses we will be confronted with opportunities to learn and grow.
we dont know where life will take us.

gave the "ol talk about the "busier we are, it won't seem like the new world is taking so long" talk.

Actually, Calebsairplane, it was a perfect representation of the nonsense we used to believe, right up to the "abused wife saves her abusive husband" garbage.
They always seemed to schedule talks/assemblies, etc. the same day as some big sports event that they knew everyone wanted to watch. In spite of that, on Canadian Grey Cup day the morning meeting was always very well attended!

Calebs Airplane - I want to laugh but your story makes me feel like crying for some reason.
so i've been cleaning out my house of theocratic stuff, but its still fun to look through everything and see how life was.
i looked through my study copies of bookstudy books and can pick the year based on the bands, sports players, songs, etc that are scribbled in the margins out of boredom.
also i laughed at how bored i must have been.
Evolution offers no hope and just creates a society of people acting like animals dressed up in clothes but being rude and unjust to each other.
I remember buying into that one the most - provided yet another excuse to demonize worldly people who believed evolution. I thought the Evolution book was wonderful - such an excellent piece of research. Bleeeaach!!
since joining this site and having my eyes opened,i find i'm now dealing with a lot of emotions that were suppressed.one being the passing of loved ones,in the org we were discouraged from showing proper emotions due to the fact that if you did you were considered weak since they the dearly departed were only sleeping.now im being bombarded with dreams of my loved ones that i,due to my brainwashing never had the emotional release that i should have had.i'm just wondering how others on this site are coping,and dealing with the fact that everything we was taught was false almost as a way to keep up under control,as we lost years and decades of time.i almost wish i keep my head and the sand and had taken the blue pill.what has helped you all deal with this ...new religion......no religion...etc.
I agree with Simon - THe Village is a great movie to help along the healing path. So is To Verdener.
I went through a lot of my traumatic breakup with JWs when I was DFd and going through the subsequent depression. But I still find I have bouts of trying to sort things out. You hit certain crises...my mom dying, my daughter falling to pieces...but you also go through cycles where sometimes you just want to face up to things and other times you don't. You can't ever totally escape it. But you can choose how you want to face it.
i have been coming to this place for 5 years.
i hope it hasn't all been wasted time..
I guess it depends what you come here for. I've enjoyed the support, the new perspectives. I've learned an incredible amount from other posters here.
I don't engage in the dialogue with hard-core religious posters but I think it's really important that there are posters who are willing to challenge them. We escaped from JW nuttiness, and we need many perspectives on our healing journey.
sorry if this has already been discussed.. but at the service meeting this week on jw.org it was clearly stated by our cobe that pdf's from jw.org that are emialed to interested persons count as placements!!!.
okay folks, next time you get a circular spam email, copy all the recipients and there is your contact list.
email thousands of people watchtower pdf's and watch the placements soar through the roof!!!.
not really that different from when we started doing mail witnessing. I remember couinting anything we included in our letters and the time spent writing. so what's the difference regular mail or email?

after christmas we were in palm springs for the weather and golf, but took off for nevada on thursday and tied the knot in a sweet, simple ceremony.
