Shame? for what? In spite of being the largest ex-JW community out there, JWN was not asked for any input and the JWN community was told that their feedback was not wanted or valued. When the community expresses concerns with a group that purports to represent them, when it apparently does not, and when the group does things that are actually extremely harmful to us as an ex-JW community and we protest - that's shameful?

Mom who regrets ever having her two kids

Interesting thought - Satanus. I initially discounted your comment, not seeing the relevance. But then it dawned on me. Oxytocin does play a role in bonding. They've done studies on ceasarian births versus vaginal and found all kinds of interesting things (i.e. cesarian birth children have higher rates of developing allergies). Messing with the natural bonding mechanism of our bodies can lead to all sorts of unexpected complications.

Sex before marriage would eliminate a lot of unhappy marriages in the Borg...
by sinis insensible, safe sex, in my opinion, should be engaged in.
because, as you get older and are ready to settle down, you will look at your potential sole mate, not for sexual reasons, but for what they have to offer mentally and if they are compatible.
when religion restricts this, and yuo must marry to have sex, i believe that you doom a marriage at the outset, because these young folks marry out of lust, only to have the rose colored blinders pulled off later, and regret the entire arrangement... .

At my nephews recent wedding I chatted with a friend and her hubby - they were the only one out of our group of teens who grew up in the WT who are still married, and she admitted that it was an incredibly difficult road.
JW kids marry WAY too young, simply because they can't have sex otherwise. I don't believe sex is the be-all and end-all in a relationship. It's far more important to be friends, to have shared interests, to be compatible in other ways. The system that doesn't allow pre-marital sex blinds people and puts the relationship emphasis in the wrong place.

Mrs. Jones - I bet you will be a "very" great grama. I know my grandkids love me to bits and I'm proud of my role in their life.
Maybe "regrets" is too strong a word. I respect this lady for putting her feelings out there. Too many parents DO tell their kids, "I wish I never had you" or "I shoulda had an abortion" soul-destroying stuff. I don't get the sense that the writer ever did this, even if she felt that way.
And ultimately - this mother is there for her children. What else matters in the big picture?

Is There Other Sites Many Members Are Bailing To? M.I.A JWN People, where did they go?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia insince i joined the forum i noticed more than a few people have not been posting, what is going on?
i received a couple of emails from other groups asking me to join their new forms with a promised technology, i wondered how they got my email address and thought it be strange.. .
people during the first year of a great change might post daily to any support chat or message board they feel is going to aid them.

What latest schism? Did I miss something??
I'm like jgnat (and probably many others). I come and go. I've found that certain personal crises precipitate a need to connect with my JW upbringing (last year family deaths), or other things come up where I want to reinforce what I believe. It's a good thing.
But there's plenty of people here who have connected with this community and stay here, and that's a good thing, too.

The thing I"ve been able to do with my grandchildren that I was not able to do as a parent is stop and try to understand WHY they are behaving a certain way. AS a parent I was often quick to discipline/punish. AS a grandparent I look at my grandson's scribbles all over the wall and appreciate his budding artistry.

I remember that Ann Landers survey, Shirley. I did read this article a few years back (or a similar one). I never set out to have kids either, but I made the best of things and would not trade the experience for the world. But there have been many times along the way where I wondered why. Parenting is a thankless job, and I do not condemn anyone who has those kinds of feelings.
I think you can still be a good parent even if you regret having children. There are many people whose whole focus in life is having children, wanting children, and they are less than adequate parents. I regret being raised a JW, but I accept that I had no choice and try to find something useful in the experience. I regret being DFd, but it was the catalyst that set me free. You may regret having children, yet when grandchildren come along, you realize that you are a far better grandma than you ever were a mother. And your grandchildren flourish as a result.

wow....just....wow. Been working long shifts and only getting caught up now.
Gotta say, I'm disappointed by the response by the AAWA president. I liked Cedars and was one of the first to volunteer. But how on earth can you say it's okay to keep 1,000+ names who were force-added and may not know it on your website because you currently have "no proof" they were harmed. Ummm...it's early days. Takes time to form a judicial committee. Who knows what kind of s**t storm might be in the works for these people?
Why can you not do the right thing? I don't care how, when, who, or why it happened, but you have NO BUSINESS adding anyone to your site without their knowledge and now that you know it happened - MAN UP and do the right thing. Let those 1,000 people choose if they want to be affiliated with you.
Confidentiality in this environment is number one. Cedars even used a fake name to register his company (is that legal?) because he's protecting himself from being outed. Can you not give others the same respect????
Just a final thought. If the name was less angry and aggressive and in your face, it might not be such a problem for those who have been outed. It's one thing to look for help and support when you are hurt and feeling down, but quite another to join an activist group that is anti everything you stand for.
P.S. Jgnat....I had to laugh at one of your earlier posts. My mother used to say, "what am I? chopped liver?" when no one was listening.

Are the Family of a Disfellowshipped Person Told in Advance?
by Eustace inin another thread a comment by mamochan13 related this experience:.

one meeting a couple of months into it they announced that a young girl, about 17, had been df'd.

In my case it was up to me to tell my family. I may be wrong, but I think in the case of minor children they may involve the parents in the process or tell them, but otherwise the family are not told anything.

I was surprised this afternoon to see this thread locked. Glad Simon has straightened out what happened. Thank you.
I believe there are growing pains that go on, and I understand mistakes are made. The Facebook thing is a biggie. Admit the mistakes and move on.
But I'm still really concerned that AAWA seems to be so unwilling to hear the concerns and feedback from the community they purport to be wanting to help and are so quick to shut down any kind of constructive feedback. Pretty much anyone who has expressed issues with the name has also said they support the organization and its mandate. Why is that a problem?
