jj allowed me to send him an article for jwstruggle.
i know this might not be everyone's cup of tea on jwn, and i hope this doesn't smack of self-promotion, which i find distasteful, but i hope it might bring comfort to some who have found themselves the victims of judicial committees.
http://www.jwstruggle.com/2012/08/the-myths-of-disfellowshipping/.
I have to agree with Quendi and Londo - disfellowshipping is both the worst and the best - if it gains you your freedom
i just realized i am starting my 8th year on jwn- am i getting long in the tooth , yet?.

I guess there are different criteria, I consider myself an old-timer with some 6-7 years. I think people like Mouthy and Lady Lee are serious old-timers., even though they only came on a couple years before I did. Moshe, who started this thread, actually came on after i did, yet I see him as part of the serious old-timers.
There are a number of people who have really made their mark on this board, though, and have played a major role in making sure it continued in spite of many attempts to give up.
This board has maintained its value because of people who have stuck around, like Lady Lee, Mouthy, Moshe, and most importantly, Simon, and people like Blondie and others too numerous to mention.
Just cuz we don't say much on this forum doesn't mean we are not active members.

well, given that I joined in 2004, I'm an old timer. You wouldn't know it by my post count, though.
i can recall sometime ago in the 60`s 70`s or theirabouts,it when they first printed their own songbook must have been before the org.copyrighted their material, and the reason they did that is because some brothers were stealing the tunes ?
maybe modifying them and passing them off as their own for commercial gain?
( i know some of you are going to say wtf ?
'Our Paradise: Present and Future'? - No. 19 in the pink/purple songbook from 1966; No. 220 in the brown 1984 one with the lyrics slightly modified. It's been dropped from this new one. I don't remember any issues with it, though.
Yeah, that's the one. Darn. Now it's in my head. Maybe I'm wrong about issues - it might be that every time they introduced the new song book they would give a spiel about how they had to remove certain songs for all these valid reasons. A lot of the songs they removed were the better ones!

I have a similar recollection as Band on the Run. The reason given for updating the song book (don't recall when, but in the 80s?) was that many of the songs were from "worldly" composers. I do recall at least one was a christmas song that was re-worked. I was the KH pianist back then, so I knew all of them quite well and I remember being surprised to discover this.
I recall some sort of issue with that song that was written in Hawaiian style...can't remember the name. But they removed it from the next version of the songbook and I rememeber someone saying it was a copyright issue or maybe the composer was DFd.
the april 2012 wt study article has some of the most strongly worded statements about contact with disfellowshipped family members.. page 12, paragraph 17: -.
good that can come when a family loyally.
upholds jehovahs decree not to associate.
"But, he admitted, had the family associated
with him even a little, that small
dose would have satisfied him."
This is such nonsense. If you want a family relationship, just a little "dose" isn't going to replace the complete and utter isolation caused when your family rejects you when you have no other resources. DFing is so incredibly cruel. When I went through it, even those members of my family who began to see how arbitrary and cruel the elders were being and who began to talk to me when they werent supposed to - it didn't change things. I was still outside and not allowed in. I didn't want the occasional time I was allowed to cross the threshold of their home. I wanted and needed to be part of my family again, completely.
