Welcome, WTofBabel. I hadn't thought of this point before, either, but it's very true. I hoped my unbelieving father would die before Armageddon. Although I always believed that God would be merciful and that he saw the good in people and would not destroy non-JWs. Back when I was suicidal I also had the thought that it was better to die then because I would be resurrected. So twisted.

I'm so disappointed to see this side of two posters whose opinion I otherwise respect and appreciate. Could you not take your argument to a private discussion? (and thank you, Terry for the insightful post)
I do not like how KS behaves towards you, Cedars, and I said so on another thread, but when you descend into name-calling and (yes) making your own threats, you simply perpetuate the problem.
It looks like both of you have walked away for the moment. I do hope cooler heads will prevail. I do not think it's up to the Mods to intervene every time two posters lock horns either. We are all big kids here, aren't we?
I also find the whole thread a bit puzzling. Cedars states an opinion on his blog. He is willing to listen to feedback and make adjustments when errors are pointed out. But it seems like many here would like to be part of the writing team and dictate his content. It's still his blog and his opinion.

Should "Irregulars" Have Psyc Evaluations?
by watson innow that we've found out that the murderer holt was an "irregular" we can all relax.
he wasn't a "regular" witness.
gawd, this reminds me of the witness attempt to assuage their guilt over the conti case, because he wasn't an elder...... .

I may be wrong, but don't both parties have to be baptized and in good standing to be married in the hall?
And an "irregular" is often the target of judicial committees - so they are clearly considered JWs, like it or not.

Fifth Estate Program in Canada - Former Jehovah's Witness from NH - Whistleblower
by RAYZORBLADE intif21 - had posted about the fifth estate (which was great), but i know most people outside of canada, will be unfamiliar with the show and the cbc.. here is the link to last night's program.
it features a young woman who had faced sexual abuse as a jw, and how little to next to nothing was done.
when she finally had enough ... well, you'll see what happens next.

I also liked how they highlighted Bill Bowen's comments about who the WT protects first: themselves, and their image.

I believe WTBS has plenty of $$, and I'm sure Tylinbrando's figures are right on. In fact, I recall one year where they actually suggested each family allot a minimum of $5 per family member per day to cover the circuit assembly. It adds up. I know my relatives give plenty. But they plead poverty partly for legal reasons (as has been pointed out) but also to perpetuate the myth that they are different from other religions, i.e. "we do not tithe or pass the collection plate." They use more subtle means to get the $$. Plus, as Flipper points out, they believe the laws do not apply to them.
Cedars has admitted he's not a lawyer on this topic. I've seen him always willing to learn and adjust when inaccuracies are pointed out. If anything, he maybe is too passionate for his subject. Wishful thinking can colour our opinions at times. I greatly appreciate his articles, his research, the time and effort he is wiling to expend to enlighten the rest of us. Cedars makes us think, and he sparks extremely helpful discussions on here.
KS - I have no personal issues with you and I appreciate the thoughtful information you often contribute. But I'm personally getting tired of your attacks on Cedars and a few others here. I really get the feeling that you believe that since you did not choose to pioneer and instead had the opportunity for higher education and a doctorate that you consider yourself much more intelligent and educated than the rest of us here. You seem to believe you know far more about JWs in your short years of association than those of us who have spent a lifetime in the cult. Maybe you don't really feel that way, but that's how your posts come across to me. I wish you would tone it down because I would like to hear your opinion and thoughts without the condescension attached. I don't understand why you feel you have to do it, because it does not enhance your contribution in any way. I mean that very sincerely.
I greatly appreciate threads like this because I'm interested in the topic and I need to stay abreast of things because it is important to my personal healing and for me to be able to help my daughters continue to stay free of the cult (hopefully enlighten other family members as well). But I don't have the time or the energy to do the kind of research and work Cedars and others do on our behalf - so thank you. I also appreciate the expertise and insight others bring to the topic to help our understanding.

Meds can help in some situations, used judiciously as FlyingHigh says. There is a viewpoint, though, that meds serve as a crutch and can actually interfere with your ability to pull out of depression. REcovery really is much more than the 45 minutes with a therapist.
I wanted to comment, LadyLee, on what you said about being a messed up mother. It resonated with me, since I was pretty messed up for a long time, too, after being DFd and spiraling into depression. Kids don't understand mom being sick. The adults around you don't know how to cope with depression, for your kids it's even worse. My eldest daughter still has trust issues with me because of it, even though she has seen that I'm not that person anymore and haven't been for a very long time. Unfortunately there is a tendency to remember the bad times more than the good.
So I understand what you are saying. It's good one of your daughters is learning that about you. Hopefully with time your other daughter will come to recognize it as well. ANd for that, you do have to stick around! :)

Stay At Home Moms/Dads
by cognac ini have a 3 and 1 year old.
hubby is a stay at home dad and i take care of the bills.
i have to, cause instead of working on his career when he was younger, he decided to pioneer- that is something that now i have to pay the price for which really sucks.. i feel that since i pay the bills, it's his job to cook and do all of the cleaning.

I agree with the suggestion to get counselling. I'm also wondering if your husband may be dealing with depression. Not only did he lose out to a bad career decision, he's seeing his wife take over the "man's" responsibility to care for the family financially. Again - counselling can help.
It's great that the kids have a stay at home parent, but being raised in an unhappy family environment where you are resentful of having to work is not benefitting them either. Your husband needs to get out and work, even if it's part time, even if its volunteering. If he's not into the housework, then he can work and use the money to pay someone to come and clean. If he feels he has no skills because he chose to pioneer, maybe you can craft a plan together where he goes to school or upgrades.
Either way, you are not being unrealistic. Something needs to change, and soon.
And, you know, maybe selling the house and moving into a trailer wouldn't be the end of the world if it meant that you were no longer carrying the whole financial burden. I think he's using it as a cop-out, but why not call his bluff?
