So utterly hurt.

today something happened that hurt me more than the jwks, more than the shunning, more than my sexual molestation, more than my hellish years at caxton and more than the year i've just had.. the moment i was told this, i felt like my insides had been ripped, torn, shredded and my heart squeezed of it's very life.

i put my head in my hands and for the first time in my life let out a primal gut wrenching wail.. my father had asked my gran why she has been treating me the way she has (which hasn't been very nice).

he though it strange considering how in the past i have helped her and given her so much.

That's awful, Lou. I understand how hurtful it is. Dementia could certainly be part of the problem. In the months before they passed, both my mom and my aunt would make some bizarre assumptions about me and things I was doing (not!). There are a whole lot of reasons why people will twist the truth.

You know the truth, however, and it sounds like your dad does, too. People who saw how lovingly you cared for your uncle will know the truth, regardless of what your grandmother might say.

So sorry for your hurt.

Update on Mrs Obvious and myself

well it's been about 8 months since my final wake up.

as some may remember for my intro thread, i panicked and was way too aggressive at first with telling my wife all about this scam we're a part of.

she freaked, thinking satan had me for sure.

I think you are doing great, Cap'n O. I'd add another groundwork suggestion. Maybe start thinking about ways to develop a non-JW network of friends. It will help cushion the loss that will eventually occur when you are both out, and it will help your wife appreciate that there are good people outside of the religion. Also gradually start some outside activities, perhaps volunteering, sporting or art activity. Little by little start to fill your life with non-JW activities.

next week i am having surgery at the local hospital .

one of my old jw 'friends ', that no longer considers me worthy of even a hello ,is a surgical tech there .. would you take steps to ask she not be on the operating team ?

it was brought to my attention today that i do have the right to ask for that person not to be present because of personal issues .. what would you do ?

I agree with everyone else - you made the right decision. JW health "professionals" have been directed by the borg to ignore the legal confidentiality rules of their workplace. You cannot trust them.

Hope all goes well with your surgery.

My introduction/experience

i have only just recently found this site, in fact only recently gone online to do research of my own about jws.

before i left i had only gone on my gut instinct, not even realising i was not alone with my feelings.

the week i was appointed an elder some 11 years ago, i had had to write to a congregation many miles away from me about how unloving they were (more details below).. not long after i started to have concerns about jws, expecially as the message of 'following the bibles message' subtly changed to 'follow the fds', this did not sit well with me.

why, he even has gone to some meetings at their kingdom hall!

someone calls with a large wedding tent that they would like to donate and set up in the kingdom hall parking lot for the public memorial on friday.

i was amazed how people who came that didnt even know whitney, but simply felt a need to be here and comfort the family.

Personally I think the Facebook post sounds like a wannabe fiction writer. It is exactly the same kind of urban legend emails JWs forward all around the world all the time, retelling an event with JW spin.

I kind of took the open house as a way to acknowledge the involvement of the community. When "normal" people have funerals for a public death like this, there is generally huge attendance from members of the community who want to show their support, so making a large public gathering would be quite appropriate, normally. And lots of people did show up.

Unfortunately, they will use the open house as an excuse to preach at anyone who comes. Too bad JWs don't understand that their non-funerals that never have anything to do with the person who has died look ridiculous to people on the outside.

I think they must be having difficulty distancing themselves from the murderer, although the husband's comment "Good people can be influenced to do something bad." seems to be trying to deflect blame on someone else.

Thinking of becoming a JW.

i am new to here so please be bear with me.. i have always believed in god, but was never baptised, my parents wanted me to make up my own mind religon wise.. i am thinking of becoming a jw and am just needing some advice on how to do this, bible study and jw beliefs.

also do jw say grace and how.. i am greatful of any help.. thanks.

CHariklo - I appreciate the snitching reminder. That's a biggy. If a JW is working as a nurse and finds out a fellow JW had an abortion, for example, that JW nurse is supposed to violate the terms of her employment and the legislation that protects individual privacy and go tell the elders. JW rules come first, before the laws of the land and the laws governing your employment.

It's interesting, Satanus - the other day my granddaughter was asking about live volcanos so we were looking Mount st. helens up on the map. I couldn't believe how many live volcanos are along the west coast range. There have been a number of earthquakes, too. It's the most active seismic zone in Canada, of course. So I don't think you are alone in your belief!

From the news I'm hearing the quake epicentre was in a sparsely populated region of Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands). Most of the populated areas on the island are on the east side. So far it sounds like everyone in that area is okay. I'm in Alberta, so I'm a fair distance away. I don't know which part of BC Outlaw is in.

Haida Gwaii, however, is a place with historic and cultural significance, and a lot of the area on the west side is part of a national park and heritage site. Most of the residents are members of the Haida nation (Indian) and are close family groups. Reading about the tsunami has reminded me that Haida Gwaii is on my list of incredible and amazing places I hope to visit one day.
