I have my precious three little grandsons in my arms right now. We talked about what happened. Perhaps more hugs and more love could have prevented one person from perpetuating this horrific tragedy on innocent children.

What was it about Bethel that woke you up?
by cognisonance inone the how many exbethelites thread it was mentioned that some think one either leaves down the path towards apostasy or as a 100% true believer.
i'm curious what experiences did you face at bethel that woke you up (or started to at least)?.

Thanks for sharing your stories, everyone. Going to bethel was never a goal of mine, but I had some friends who went. Now that I think about it, one of them didn't last long and he would never talk about his experience afterwards. It would have been around 1970. He was a bit of a joker, fun-loving, so I'm sure it was torture for him. He managed to write a hello message on my awake subscription one day - I got a good laugh when it arrived in the mail. My brother and his wife (the evil b**ch) went for a while. I know they got in trouble for certain music. But when they returned they were super holier than thou.
Etude - I can't help but wonder: who presses their jeans? :)

What rumors have you heard about yourself since leaving?
by donny ingood morning all,.
i have had the opportunity over the last couple of years to speak with a couple of jw's who had either attended the same congregation i did or were married to someone who to the same one.
for the record, i disassociated myself in 1992 due to being followed around by an elder or two who had heard that i had ray franz's "crisis of conscience" in my possession.

The only rumour I'm aware of is that I was offended by the elders - I hear that from my family. But I'm sure they say all kinds of things about me and my daughters. As Phizzy says, it's never about the WT - we must have an issue.
Emma - that's crazy!

Why do all religions have to have really stupid beliefs that are an embarrassment.
by mP ini cant understand why some people want to start a new religion and they have to invent new stories, but why oh why do they have to be so stupid and why do people fall for them.
so many religions like the mormons, jw etc all have such down right nutty stupid beliefs its a wonder why they couldnt simply be more realistic... i dont get it..

I think if you can convince your followers to embrace stupid, way out-there beliefs, they are going to be more loyal. It's a psychological manipulation thing.

10 things that happened in 2012 - my review
by cedars inlast year i did a review of 2011 for the forum.
this was more of a review that focussed on some of the awful stuff that was printed in the literature that year - the first year of my awakening.. 2012 has been more interesting from the point of view of things actually happening outside the literature.
i thought it might be nice to take a look back and put some of these events in chronological order.... .

Does Anyone View You As A "Prodigal Son" With The Hope You Will Come Back To Jehovah?
by minimus ini know some have thought that about me.
my family used to but i think that hope is dwindling now..
-
mamochan13
My mom did. I don't think she ever gave up hope. My aunt always gives me the "when are you coming back?" thing at family funerals. I suspect a few of the dubs that I know from way back also harbour that hope - they keep calling on me and leaving me mags.
Funny, when I was DF'd and hurting, the prodigal son WT came out, with the statement about how the father ran to meet his son when he saw him from afar. Didn't work that way for JWs, tho.

A great picture for proving that JWs aren't weird and cultish...
by cedars init's a shame this is only in the study edition, so the general public can't see how normal and down-to-earth the witnesses are in how they perceive themselves.... .

Interesting angel body language.
Angel on the right, retracted shoulders, rigid body - suppressed anger, defensiveness
ANgel in the middle, crossed arms -defensive and callous, rejecting. Also self-hugging is a sign of insecurity or anxiety.
Angel on the left, hands on hips - aggression, anger

Being a JW is like betting on a horse race-
by moshe inyou can win almost everytime, if you have insider information!
that is what the wt all but promises- you can cheat death and live forever in a paradise earth!
but you need inside information to win that race-- and you can only get it from the governing body - the meat in due season, is the equivalent to the horse race insider tip- it's like a sure bet folks!!.

Love it, Irondork.
Gamblers keep betting even when they lose money for several reasons. Gambling psychology keeps you believing you are going to hit the jackpot if you keep trying. Once you've invested so much, it becomes harder and harder to walk away.

The January 1st Watchtower Admits That JWs Have Been Wrong As To Their Expectations Of The End!...but
by minimus inthey excuse it by saying, it's ok since at least they were on the watch.. i believe they should think about god's view of watchmen who constantly gave false pronouncements.
they would be judged accordingly by god!.

I guess they need to start adjusting their focus since they've been wrong so many times. How much longer can they keep telling their followers that the end is at hand? They need to convince people to stick around for other reasons.
