I'm kinda spoiled. I have about an 8-minute drive downtown. Half my commute is driving through the parkade!

Why WTBTS Disfellowshipping Works...
by AGuest into the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you all have peace!.
i just wanted to share with you, briefly, what i have come to understand as to why disfellowshipping by the wtbts works... why it can continue being fomented as it is.
i realize there are pages and pages of studies regarding cults and cult mindsets, etc., but i am not going to inundate you with such but rather try to keep this simple.

Noni - you are exactly right. placing blame on the victim is a secondary rape. That's what WBTS does.

American Idol 12th Season coming up. Has anyone seen all 11?
by LoisLane looking for Superman ini didn't think i was an uber dub, but i was "agast" (lol) when an elder told me, while he & his wife were out doing their night cleaning jobs, they tape american idol, and watch and laugh their heads off when they get home.
i had never watched.
the word "idol", didn't he get it?

My youngest daughter and I used to watch it, but only the beginning episodes when they were weeding out people. Those were the funniest. But I can't be bothered anymore. I barely have time to watch shows I really really want to watch.
One of my daughters was a finalist on a Canadian variation of the show. It was quite insightful as to how they treat these young performers. They are just a commodity, and it's all done for the camera.

Well, I just read it. Took a lot of courage to get to the place you are today, SD7. Reading your first post and having a sense of where you are now, it seems you have really travelled a long way, even though you may not realize it. The important thing is that your journey has been in a positive direction.
Do you feel you are in a better place than you were 3 years ago?

Think the cold has highlighted problem with hip joints??
by Lozhasleft intoday we visited someone and their house was unheated.
we stayed over an hour.
it's cold here in the uk right now, snow in places, frost in our area.

It could be arthritis. I have osteoarthritis and the cold definately makes it worse. Did you try heat to ease the symptoms (i.e. hot bath, hot compress)?
Just this past year I've also started having a reaction to the cold. I break out in itchy hives and red spots if I'm outside for very long (and unfortunately we have long, cold, snowy winters here). So there are some physical symptoms caused by the cold that come on as we get older.

This is not a new story, unfortunately. I've heard many other aspects of it. The child bride phenomena, for example. In Bangladesh, about two-thirds of girls are married before age 18, one-third prior to 15. These young girls are victimized by older men who come from other countries, too.
And, yes, bride burnings are on the rise.
In many cases there are laws that supposedly protect women, but they are not enforced. The cultural attitudes run very deep.
Just as a bit of an aside. I had to call HP about a problem with my new computer. I ended up on the phone for like an hour with a young man in India. We chatted a bit about stuff like the weather, etc. But he surprised me right at the outset by asking how old I was. In our culture a service person on the phone would never ask something like that (unless it was related to the problem). Yet I guess to him that was quite normal. I don't know if it had to do with me being female, or just his natural curiosity, but it brought home to me that we cannot begin to comprehend some of these cultural differences and attitudes. Trying to change them from afar through international negotiations as this writer suggests is a complex matter.

eyesropen - There is a movement to change the statute of limitations when it comes to child sexual abuse, and many states are in the process of doing so. Where I live there is no statute of limitations, so it can be reported and prosecuted any time. I'd suggest getting in touch with your local sexual abuse prevention/support agency and see where things are at. I'd also strongly suggest counselling. Childhood sexual abuse has severe impacts on the individual throughout their life - many adult problems and symptoms are rooted in it, yet never even linked to the abuse. Counselling, especially group therapy, can do wonders.

Great list. 100 hours is a lot of work otherwise. I confess to having used a few of them myself. Here's another one used by several of the pioneers in my circuit.
Count Time During Meetings:
If your bible study attends the meeting with you, you can count time for the whole meeting. If you pick the study up and drop them off, it can add up to three or four hours each meeting.

just support please
by Roberta804 ini have had to make some very difficult decisions in recent days.
in one way i feel good about takeing care of myself and my mother who is on her dead bed in the room next to me.
mom has live with me since 2005 and started to make her journey to the other side on christmas day.

Roberta - you are in such a difficult place. I think it's really important that you do what you need to do in order to keep yourself strong and together right now.
During the last few days we had to limit visitors, too, but my mom was still able to make the decision on who she wanted to see and for how long. She was still in her own home at that point. It would be good if your mom could have the same choice over who she wants to see right now. But as her caregiver you also have a responsibility to do what's best for her, in order to keep her as comfortable and free of anxiety as possible.
It's a shame that some members of your family chose to behave so badly towards you in the past. Makes me wonder what they are hoping to accomplish at this point.
My mom insisted that we have a frank discussion about her funeral several weeks before the end. She laid out exactly what she wanted and entrused my sister with it (not me, of course, cuz I'm not a JW). That your mom has also done this removes a major burden from you. Thank goodness for that.
These kinds of situations certainly highlight some of the uglier things about this religion. Stay strong. We are with you.
