mental disease?

so apparently i have a mental disease because i no longer believe jw propaganda.

link with supposed Haitian "president" holding JW book

my mom forwarded this to me via a niece (who is busy forwarding all kinds of haiti reports).

supposedly it's the president of haiti making a plea for his country while holding a jw book, but it's not the president (preval).

some are saying it's a community worker from france.

So sad to hear singer/songwriter Lhasa de Sela has died at age 37

i just heard today that llasa de sela died on new year's day of breast cancer, and the news has made me profoundly sad.. i first heard this amazing woman sing when she released her debut album, la llorona in 1997. although she made montreal her home she was actually born in the u.s. she was well-known in certain circles, but her music is worthy of a much wider audience.

hopefully more people will discover her incredible talent, now unfortunately lost to us.. too many wonderful people have been cut off too soon by cancer, not just incredible musicians like llasa and eva cassidy.. one of my favourites, el desierto: http://www.trilulilu.ro/juliaagripina/7ca416d4bb2fcb.

Washer blows up: Maybe I fed it too many socks?

well my trusty washer has finally given up the ghost.

for two years now, ever since my daughters and four grandchildren all moved back in with me, it's been subjected to two or three loads daily.

last month when all the grandkids had the flu we were up to six or seven loads a day.

Testing what you believe

a news editorial i read this morning regarding protests/banning of the books golden compass from the his dark materials trilogy (soon to also be a movie) got me thinking about testing faith.

these books are apparently an answer to c.s.

lewis's chronicles of narnia, presenting an athiest perspective to lewis's "overtly christian" one.. as a jw i used to like the scripture about the boreans who daily tested their faith by "carefully examining the scriptures daily to see if these things were so" acts 17:11. in retrospect now, of course, i wonder how it is possible to take that attitude and still remain a blind follower, although apparently my borean-like approach freed me!.

i've finally had the opportunity to read the october 1, 2005 watchtower regarding education.

even though this board had already prepared me for what i was going to be seeing, it still surprised me.

i cannot believe that they are still demonizing post secondary education.

Amish in the City/The Village/JW's

i watched amish in the city tonight and saw the village last night.

been thinking a lot about comparisons with jws.

i found the rumspringa thing quite interesting ever since i saw devil's playground (watch it if you have a chance, great documentary!).
