British coinage
by thewiz inok you brits, i have looked this up before, but can't remember where, and only for the "legal" terms.. you have terms/slang for your coinage/bills that i can never seem to remember or get right.. can you list first the real name for denomination (lowest to highest), then the slang terms you use for that denomination, and then the american $ equivalent?.
what's a quid?
is it the same thing as a shilling?.

In 1971, the British monetary system changed to decimal, so words like shilling are actually obsolete. There are still, however, a large number of terms in use for coins, notes and money in general which you could probably devote a web site to.

The timewaster's guide to field service
by RunningMan inlast week, i posted evidence of the monumental inefficiency of the field service work.
you might be wondering how it is possible for people to put in so many hours, and produce so few results.
well, the answer is really quite simple.

Return visits are a goldmine of wasted hours... if you plan the route carefully. I suggest good route planning software; preferrably the type which allows you to put in target times at various destinations rather than trying to find the shortest route. The target times for each call should be the times when the house holder is most likely to be not at home so that the same route can be done over and over each day. This approach works best in extended or rural territories and days upon days can be spent driving round with the top down and taking breaks by pictuesque rivers where you can break (still counting time while throwing stones into the river and asking your pioneer partner how much money they would want to jump in).
Additionally, you can make the day more interesting and pass quicker if you play a game as you go. SO we used to give eachother a word which the other person had to use (should the house holder be in). This started off as "Jesus" and "kingdom hall" which was too easy. Soon enough we were challenging each other with words like "ice cream", "fudge cake" , etc. The art here was not how to fit it into the presentation, but to not burst out laughing when your partner said it. Invariably I did.

This web site, your comments as evidence
by joelbear inin the case of silent lambs versus the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses.. did you ever think that discussing these cases here accompanied by your vitriole against all things watchtower could be used to:.
1. show that ex jehovahs witnesses harbor such a hatred for the watchtower society that they will say anything to discredit them.. 2. show that there is a network of ex jehovahs witnesses that may have helped to create these abuse accusations in the alledged victims' minds or at least have encouraged them, even unwittingly, to exaggerate their claims.. i guarantee you that the watchtower society has documented every word anyone here has said, especially on this issue.
i can easily see a defense team using it to, if not exonerate accused molesters and the watchtower society, to at least create a reasonable doubt regarding their guilt.. if your hatred of the watchtower causes you to join in irrational behavior and accusations, you have to contemplate the fact that you may be adding to the future grief of any real victims.. i present this for your thoughtful consideration.. as always, i wish all here peace.. joel

Joel, I agree with you in principle and you have some very good motives, however...
Each person who reads or participates in any message board has to decide for themselves based on their own knowledge and judgement what information is exaggerated or biased. You must credit at least some (if not most) of these people with intelligence. I think what you are questioning is the nature of the message board system itself as an effective means of information disemination.

Joel, I think the picture you paint implies that everyone hates the Watchtower. People come here for different reasons, and I strongly disagree that most have some kind of conspiracy against the Watchtower. I personally feel damaged by growing up in the org, however, my mother and some family are still part of it. That is what they choose. I do not feel hate for them, or even the GB who I feel are self-deceived. I hate the people who I know personally (without any exaggeration) who claim to be Jehovah's Witnesses but have more in common with Soddom and Gomorah. And I hate the mechanism which allows people like this to remain in their positions while others with good hearts are disfellowshipped on technicalities and unfortunate circumstances. If your not sure what I mean, read my story in the hello, hello, hello thread and you'll see where I'm coming from.

Read and be wise......
Uncle Ballistic's Q&A about healthy eating:
Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up
your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.
Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more
than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy
vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable slop.
Q: Is beer or wine bad for me?
A: Look, it goes to the earlier point about fruits and vegetables. As we all know, scientists divide everything in the world into three
categories: animal, mineral, and vegetable. We all know that beer and wine are not animal, and they are not on the periodic table of elements, so
that only leaves one thing, right? My advice: Have a burger and a beer and enjoy your liquid vegetables.
Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body, and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.
Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain = Good.
Q: If I stop smoking, will I live longer?
A: Nope. Smoking is a sign of individual statement and peace of mind. If you stop, you'll probably stress yourself to death in record time.
Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: You're not listening. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables
be bad for you?
Q: What's the secret to healthy eating?
A: Thicker gravy.
Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.
Q. Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? Cocoa beans... Another vegetable. It's the best feel good food around! -

great suggestions everyone! if this keeps going, we could write a book on it. By the way, last time I gave up and I got the craving, I just asked myself why I wanted to smoke and told myself, "I do not smoke", a kind of self hypnosis I think. It worked for 3 months until I got pissed (drunk in U.S.) one day.

What about quick builds? There are cases of serious injuries, especially in the early days before quick build teams were formed and non-trades persons carried out most of the work. At one (I think it was in Milton Keynes) a scaffold pole fell vertically through the roof of a porta-loo, passing through the legs of an unsuspecting JW and into the bowl, pinning him to his seat.
