In the book "Life How Did it Get Here - By Evolution or by Creation", it quotes Hoyle's work a fair bit. Now he lives in my town here in Dorset, England, and I happened to call on him in field service.
He says that his arguments for one form of evolution over another are taken to be statements advocating creation when taken out of context.
Also quoted is the book "The Blind Watch Maker", which I have read, and although this book dwells a lot on the marvels of nature, it is basically showing what a marvelous process evolution is. Again - quoted out of context in that book.

if the organization did not actually prophesy the end in 1925 and 1975, then how come so many witnesses left the faith immediately afterwards?

if the watchtower organization rejects others calling them "inspired" yet the watchtower organization does call themselves "god's spirit-directed prophet" what is the difference?

To whoever suggested Alan Parson's... I've got that album and it's cool, but no one else in the UK seems to know them, is it still going in the US?
My other fav was probably J's suggestion WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER, great song and great film too.

well, here it is, after almost 20 years 12 of those serving in position of responsibility it comes down to my spiritual execution(jw style).
allow me to explain.

personnally, i heard a lot of urban legends about the presence of a devil in a house.
it was always the same kind of story about a devil who lived in a house and then the jw arrive and they pray jehovah and suddendly, the demon go away...
You just reminded me about my ouija story.
The fact that ouija didn't work in my presence.
This bolstered my faith at the time, but I can't think why it wouldn't work now I know the truth.

On a similar theme to yours...
Sister goes out in field service and chats to a lady about evil spirits. Upon returning to follow up the call with a leaflet, the lady was not at home, so the sister tried posting the leaflet through the door. As she did so, she fell into the door, which opened. The house was empty, dark and riddled with cob webs, apparently the house was not occupied for years!!!

how is the watchtower organisation going to let it's members down or is it going to keep stringing them along ad-infinitum.. i ask because even though they've had their fingers burnt by quoting dates, they still continually insist it's close and we're in the "last days".. i was thinking in the thread about kids leaving that perhaps the membership rotates to such an extent that they can keep pulling the wool over their sheep's eyes.. .
