Not exactly. Being American is basically a choice, and if you participate in the process and like what the country represents, then you can be proud. Some are ashamed to be Americans.

I don't get it. Lilbit's happy to be an American. I was aware that America is not so popular around the world. But I expected a little more insight from the non-Americans on this board.
Obviously, America is a huge country with extreme diversity. As such, you cannot stereotype Americans. Most people who live here are glad they live here. Otherwise, they're free to leave. Likewise, people from all over the world immigrate here to pursue the many opportunities available.
Perhaps the fear of American "imperialism" is what concerns the world. That's an irrational fear. America has enough nukes to obliterate half the world, yet we go into Iraq and tip-toe around for years just to liberate a tiny country. The war is very unpopular here and it will be a long time before another U.S. President has the balls to start another conflict.
Anyway, there won't be any self loathing at my house today. Happy 4th.

Sounds like Libertarians are the cutting edge of future governments. Limited government but high on personal liberties. The human race needs to evolve as a whole to be able to handle their personal liberties; but I have faith.

i am dating a male jw.
according to him we are not dating, because if we were he would get disfellowshiped.
To each his own. I'm divorcing my jw wife and I would never ever marry someone involved with that religion. I don't believe that a truly dedicated witness would marry someone outside their faith. And, the df'd or half-ass dubs are worse than the real ones. My wife's ex is df'd and he has all the immorality of a "worldly" person, but holds onto the ridiculous beliefs i.e., church's are bad, no holidays, pledge of allegiance, etc.
I truly believe that you're either with them or against them. I've tried to find a happy medium with my wife for 5 years, and I can't. Granted, we also have the issue of raising children.

if you cannot fathom a certain change to a population of a certain species, then just make the mutation steps in your head smaller over a longer period of time, and you will see how species evolve gradually.
I can fathom a particular species becoming smarter, taller, different skin colors, where the most fit of a particular species moves on. What I can't fathom is the simultaneous evolution of all the species culminating in the present eco-system. I can't fathom a simple structure becoming more complex by accident. I have a hard time imagining all the small steps that were taking place while male and female genitalia were evolving independently and somehow fit together. I find the evolutionists answer to the inexplicable is always that "longer period of time" - trillions of years. Its no different than the religious explanation for the inexplicable - God. I've got to choose between "God did it" or "trillions and trillions of years did it." Neither one makes any sense.

Dude, don't sweat it. 18 is the worst age for a guy to get a girlfriend. Most of the girls your age are interested in older guys. You can't really dip down to the younger girls either. For a man, each year after you turn 18 until you hit 30, the field of available women broadens. 18 is the worst, believe me. In the meantime, get your sh$t together. Develop yourself, your style, your intellect, and most of all your earning capacity. That way, the women will be knocking your door down before you know it.

Ostrich wings may be a bad example of intelligent design, but it doesn't do much for evolution theory either. According to evolution, shouldn't an animal burdened with useless wings be killed off by more fit species. Or shouldn't a mutation have occured where those wings dropped off completely by now? Or, maybe the ostrich used to have arms, but they mutated into wings, and eventually the wings will be big enough for the ostrich to fly. That wouldn't be fair, a bird that could run fast and fly. Then maybe it would grow gills and fins and be the fastest running, flying, swimming bird in the world.
i was lucky to have been brought up in the troof, because if i hadnt, i wouldnt have known about the demons and how they are always looking for opportunities to lead us astray by appearing as ghosties, or by making household objects float, or by getting into our house through items bought from car boot sales.. my first memories of the deemunz was quite early, say aged 5 or 6. i used to think they were at the end of the bed, and so i had to sleep with my legs curled up as tightly as possible, so they wouldnt get my toes.
i cant even begin to think what terrible things they were going to do with my piggies, but sure as the apostles i wasnt going to give them a chance.. aged 7 or 8 i knew the deemunz were after me, because i was special.

Were you a deep sleeper? I think that's my step-son's problem. They have some sort of pee-jacket that has an alarm on it that the dr. recommended. He manages to soak through the rubber pads and everything.

Interesting post, katiekitten. It made me think a/b my jw wife and step-kids. My step-kids are pretty scared of the dark, and going upstairs or downstairs by themselves. Probably normal for 7 and 8 yr.olds. My step-son still pees the bed at 7 yrs old. Maybe he's too scared to get out and pee during the night. Who knows? My wife made the mistake one time of telling me that a demon had vibrated the door stop in my step-son's room. I dismissed it as the most ridiculous notion I'd ever heard. So, I'm sure the all believe the house is full of demons, but leave me out of it since I'm not a dub.
