Mr. Flipper's Conversation over Coffee w/ JW Daughter - Mixed Results
by flipper init is truly amazing the varied emotions i've felt since my jw daughter has been talking to me after not talking to me for 9 months .
" i replied, " i haven't said anything about the witnesses today .
she had told me an elder from my area had given a talk in her congregation 30 miles away , and she told him i have issues with the child abuse scandal.

As I approach the time when my feelings will no longer be hidden from my family it's encouraging to read and reflect on experiences like yours. Thank you for showing that a level head is possible. My family is FULL of hard heads, and I have to remind myself that when the time comes to discuss my feelings and beliefs that my head being the hardest isn't what matters the most.
Much appreciation,

Anybody from near Chattanooga? I'm looking for an old friend that moved there from IL.
He was a good friend, and I miss him. And I think I may be able to find him through here for reasons pertaining to the last conversation I had with him about 2 years ago.
PM me if you can help.
Thanks,

by hotchocolate inthe memorial i think is getting close to being over in most parts of the world.
i'm really interested to know if the recent watchtower article encouraged any to partake for the first time.

Wife giving me BIG space....no question about me and memorial yet.
by oompa inthis is starting to drive me nuts.
i expected a tearful guilt trip on this one to start weeks ago.....but nothing.
my dad asked me on the phone but we were having a heavy discussion on other jw topics at the time, and i never got back to the question.

Living as a former JW
by yknot inwhile i personally have not yet made this jump (final meetings will be first week of june).
i hear many wishing me "happy easter" i wonder how many of you have adjusted?.
i don't think i can unlearn that most holidays are "pagan", after all even the history channel confirms this fact.

Ignoring holidays due to their pagan roots always sounded retarded to me. Yesterday I'm doing a job at an investment firm. The owner says "Have a happy easter Looking!", and I said "Happy Easter Owner!". Why did I say that without hesitating? Because the man was being friendly and thoughtful. Hell maybe he was a pagan, I don't know. But he was being genuinely nice. Whether I ever "celebrate" or not? Who knows, I'm still "active" after all.
Pagan origins...whatever JW's...eff you and your pyramids.

Which is More Important: Doctrinal Correctness or Unity?
by Olin Moyles Ghost inlately i have done a lot of thinking about the inevitable discussions i will have with family and friends about my (and their) beliefs.
i have begun running through some hypothetical conversations in my mind.
today, i thought of a particular line of reasoning and would like to hear any comments/criticism from the board.

Believe me, I understand the flaws in this line of reasoning.
Is doctrinal "truth" impossible to prove? Yes, I know that.
Is Love more important than either of these? Yes.
However, I'm trying to approach this line of reasoning from a JW mind set with two goals. One, to get at least my family to understand that I am not an apostate. Even if they stop talking to me to preserve their relationship with the org, I'm trying to prevent them from thinking of me as "dead". Two, to possibly reach an elder or twol that I think will be receptive.
I know that it is possibly a lost cause, trying to prepare for the confrontation that I am bringing on. My feeling though is that this may be the best argument I can use because it is not offensive to what they teach, and supported by the bible.
They do believe they have "THE TRUTH", so they can't argue against it being important, as pointed out by another poster, they even use it as a recruiting tool.
If I argue for pro love instead of pro truth it could offend their feelings more than intellect, which I think would be more dangerous.

p.s. - It is pointless isn't it.
