the post about crisis of conscience in which the poster said he knows there's some bad in the watchtower (as brought out in coc), but there's some good in it too got me to wondering about people that stay for the good in it.. the united states makes some decisions as a country that i don't agree with, perhaps even object strongly to.
but i don't disavow my citizenship.
it's mostly a good place to live, so i stay.. if you want to live in a way that utterly conflicts with the watchtower -- homosexual, multiple sex partners, smoking, whatever -- then you have reason to leave.

who was the medieval monk who accounted all the popes to the end of the world in a prophetic document?
john paul ii (i think he should be called jp the great) was described in the manuscript as "he who stoops in the sun.
not only was jp a farmworker harvesting potatoes and turnips (believe me you'll stoop), but his charateristic gesture on arriving in foreign lands was to stoop and kiss the ground.
Mal whatsisface don't sound right .
I don't even know where I read it all those years ago.
Annoyed.

Leo,
I love you for your earnest honesty, and unflinchinching integrity.
Thanks for the link. I just spent ages looking with no success.
You have given me so much info over the lurking monfs. - I could have found in my own library - A female Sophocles indeed, buzzing round us all niggling, biting, sharing. One day we shall meet -- I know, and i am not a false prophet.

do you wonder what i'd do in a situation?.
do i have to tell you what movies to watch?
you know the ratings.. do i have to tell you what music to listen to?
The WTS systematically undermines people's confidence in their reading skills.
The rank and file need someone to explain the meaning of what even the most basic WT article means.
You can't possibly understand what the bible means by reading it. They tell you what it actually is saying.
To me a classic example is an article where Jesus' words "you must love your enemies and pray for those etc," is twisted with old testament legalism, so at the end we SHOULD hate certain people, and should not pray for those outside the Borg.

Does anybody know the name of this document, as "He who stoops" is the penultimate, and I want to know how the last Pope is described.

you may not remember, but i know you very well.
i met you a long time ago when you came to my house with your smiling faces, your neat clothes, and your soft voices, and a bible tucked neatly under your arm.
you told me beautiful stories of a "paradise earth," and a "righteous new system" which would be established shortly.
Eduardo is being harsh cruel and legalistic.
What about the responsibility of those printing the lies?
Before computers and modern cynicism, most people believed what they saw in a book.
His argument is skewed. Like: "We told you lies, incomplete and misleading information. You chose to believe us." (Like the 17th century quacks selling saspirella to cure VD.)
Listen to Mouthy's excellent account of how they worm their way in.
If there is a God, he does not punish the misled, only the misleaders. The Roman Catholic Church teaches this, more merciful than the WTS.

PS "But do you not recognise" is such a typically WT way of starting a question I think our dear 'Duardo is a TROLL.
i've noticed on this forum that a fair few ex-jw's still refer to the members of the non-christain cult known as the jehovah's witneses as christians.
im aware that current members may wrongly believe they are in fact christians because the organisation leads them to believe they are serving god.
but for ex-members who are awake to the false teachings of this non-christain organisation, i thought they may be more prudent in their choice of words, and not refer to them as christians.
The new Baptism question no longer uses the name of the Father or the Son. (They ditched the Holy Spirit years ago)
Since they no longer follow Christs words at Matt 28:19 they no longer practise christian baptism, and by definition are not really christian.

the following is quoted in it's entirety (excepting cited scriptures after each question) from the new release organized to do jehovah's will, pages 182-218.. .
questions for those desiring to be baptized.
part 1 elementary bible teachings.
Matthew 28, was baptism in the name of Father Son and Holy Spirit.
First they got rid of Holy Spirit in baptism questions ("in the name of the Father and Son in association with Spirit directed organisation")
Now they get rid of mention of Father and Son too. Can we now safely say that JWs do not practise Christian Baptism?
I think too that the "hygeine" questions on disease are a form of paranoia, especially in countires where highly contageous illnesses, such as hemorragic fevers, and other infectious fevers can be passed on.
But don't imagine it is a "Lurving Provision" - they just don't want to be sued if someone dies of an infection picked up at the Kingdumb Hell, or a baptism pool in Shimmy Shangaville.
