I certainly blamed my drink problem at first on the frustrations and blah blah blah of the life as a JW.
If you had a drink problem as a JW what caused yours. Does leaving aid recovery?

a friend of mine who is disfellowshipped wonders whether it is wtbts policy to let him have the magazines still and frankly, i can't remember.
i told him that i believe it is their policy not to let him have the mags, but i'm not actually that sure.
any ideas you clever people?
Yes.
They said to the congs that you should not be alarmed if you see a DF lining up to collect magazines, as they can receive them. Just DON'T say hello or look at them.
(Wasn't there an Outer Limits episode about criminals being punished in society by being ignored? A sort of globe swooped down if they tried to make any human contact)

alcoholics anonymous claims that alcoholism is a disease.
somehow i think that is just a way of excusing the person from the responsibility that they chose to drink and they chose to let it become an addiction.. what do you think?.

I know someone whose husband got suicidally depressed if he could not cross dress. He tried to change, but ended up killing himself.
I knew an alcoholic whose family 'intervened', and he managed to stop drinking, but now there was just HIMSELF and he couldn't cope so killed himself.
Mulan is right. One form of alcoholism is a mental illness, I think related to lack of self esteem or some other issue in the psyche. I thought I became an alcoholic to cope with the stresses of JW and the contradictions that screamed louder and louder. Part of it was that WTS undermines the self esteem so much that some will not be able to accept themselves.
After I woke up, I was still slowly killing myself, and eventually realised it was other mental issues that I could not cope with. Since I got therapy, and self esteem and self respect, I now find I don't feel the same compulsion to drink, as Eric Berne says - a truly cured alcoholic does not got from one extreme to the other. In fact TA was effectively helping so many on a government project the transactional analysis was stopped, as the workers had no one to play their games of rescue with.
Physical addiction to alcohol is more insidious. In France where wine forms part of every meal it is estimated that as many as 60% are addicted to alcohol and don't realise it. Once the physical need is there it is as hard to cure as heroin or crack or cigarettes.
How many who just posted about choice and self control and the 'alcoholics responsibility' were sucking poisonous smoke from a cancer stick even as they typed?

is there one line of prose or poetry that stopped you dead in your tracks and haunted your mind for days on end?
is there a line, a paragraph or a book that feeds your soul and there is no end to its craving?
share it with all of us.
Emily Dickinson poem 724 made me think when I was a yoof.
It's easy to invent a life -
God does it - every Day -
Creation - but the gambol
of His Authority.
It's easy to efface it -
The thrifty Deity
Could scarce afford Eternity
to Spontaneity -
The perished patterns murmur -
but His Perturbless Plan
Proceed - inserting Here - a Sun -
There - leaving out a Man -

been doing alot of reading on this new pope and i read something that made my little jw alarm bells go off:.
" pope benedict xvi outlined goals for his papacy today, including the unification of all christians and reaching out to people of other faiths.".
http://www.cnn.com/.
The new Pope says that
1: the Anglican Communion, Lutheran Church among others are "not real churches." I cannot see him advancing along the ecumenical path.
2: He feels the adoption of tongues other than latin for the mass is unfortunate.
3: "Cloning is even more evil than weapons of mass destruction."
1: Ditto WTS
2: Ditto WTS except they mean the english NWT not latin. (See what happened in France - the GB ordered a grammatically wrong statement in French at John 1:1)
3: Ditto WTS - they are as ignorant as the Pope as to what cloning really is, and are happy that angels will wield WMDs at armageddon.
The person you hate the most is often most like you. WTS will have a field day.

as a youngster with the original green nwt i could never reconcile how the wts could print in a nt verse "they thought they had seen a ghost!
" when they were adamant such did not exist.. does anyone remember that verse (in acts, i think) i only have later editions where that and others are excised, and now s.o.
is trying to "smokescreen" me with the usual denial card.

i remember reading in the reasoning book about how to approach someone at the door who said the bible was full of contradictions.
one of the answers was "many say the bible's full of contradictions but no one's been able to show me an example of one.".
so, what are some examples that jws would have no real canned answer to?.
The Synoptic Gospels say that Jesus was immediately led away into the wilderness for 40 days. Yet ch 2 ofJohn's account says that 3 days after the baptism he was in Cana making water into wine. Don't tell me he didn't partake of the wedding feast, not withstanding, Luke says he ate nothing after being baptised for over a month. (This from a so called 'doctor' who would know the effects of lack of food and water after only a few days in that climate!!) If he was so dead set on accuracy for Theophilus why did he not explain that away?
If Jesus were just a man he would have died like anyone else, and if God gave him miraculous strength, he was not tempted like we are.

i wanna hear the word that made you either physically nauseous or burst out in uncontrolable laughter.
please demonstrate it in a sentence as well.
mine was 'enthused' (my fingers were shaking as i typed).
FORTUNATE - You couldn't say lucky.
Lucky is from the German 'Happy' or glee.
But we could use the word from the Goddess FORTUNA.
We should have ditched "event" derived from the Roman God Bona Eventus.
WHOLESOME. Depends on the whole how Holy is the hole...
INCULCATE - Should be In CULT ate.
