  announced our circuit overseer last night in his talk about the urgency to preach because of the times.

  followed by a silence that was broken with ohhhs and ahhhs.

  he said that a couple of times throughout his part, simulating a beating heart with his fist.

  jesus said "the flood came and swept them all away."

  either:

  1: He is the son of god and knows that.

  2: He was just an ignorant jewish carpenter who believed the creed of the time.

  If Jesus is the son of god, or God incarnate then when the scriptures speak of massive loss of human life, babies children, mothers fathers men, grannies at Armageddon -

  either:

  1: It will happen the way the bible says.

  2: It won't happen the way the bible says. (In which case he was not god and we have only unpredictable daily vississitudes to worry abou until we die.)

  Are we still trembling before the FDS????

  Apostates and dubs in the same restaurant!!!!

  a small group of us who grew up together try and get together every few months.

  we went to this mexican restaurant and there was a group of witnesses there.. the tension was so thick.

  one of the guys there saw 2 elders who served on his jc.

  (don't crack that one).. people on the board seem to be gradually getting to know each other in the real world too, and i think this is so great.

  Alcoholism - a disease or a choice?

  alcoholics anonymous claims that alcoholism is a disease.

  somehow i think that is just a way of excusing the person from the responsibility that they chose to drink and they chose to let it become an addiction.. what do you think?.

  I hated AA because we just sat there night after night telling the same SOB story of anger or depression or whatever, occasionally s.o. said "I had a drink today." Bit like a JW saying "ACIGARETTE".

  There was nothing about moving on, finding a purpose.

  We can find any number of things to die for, including booze. I wanted something to live for. Once I realized I was the only me to live - that helped. Only I could sponsor a child in the third world or help buy an acre of rainforest to be preserved.

  In the WTS all I could have done was send magazines to the starving kids and say, "don't steal food, sit there read the magazine and die."

  Sounds distorted I know but I get so angry how little they really do!!

  The drinking is a symptom of some other underlying problem, not the problem itself.

  So the AA cult does its bit to shout down the demons, but only if you GO TO ALL THE MEETINGS!!!!! All the time...

  It is exactly the same with how WTS deals with the symptoms of falling hours, meeting attendance, drop out youths, falling contributions. DO LOTS AND LOTS SO YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO SEE THE REAL PROBLEM.

  The mental problem is the disease, alcoholism is a syndrome indicating a mental disease mechanism.

  i certainly blamed my drink problem at first on the frustrations and blah blah blah of the life as a jw.

  if you had a drink problem as a jw what caused yours.

  Seriously though, I also had an alcoholic father with his own issues. He tried to kill us the night before my Mom left him.

  i think i was marked for a couple of yrs, but the jws are in our neighborhood these days.

  i took a couple mags and gave my own little spiel (gently) a couple weeks ago.

  i'm thinking next time...i will be prepared.
