Pray to Jesus to God or Both? (Not Just Yet Another Trinity Thread...)

i just read another post that touched upon praying directly to jesus and it reminded me of the other day at church.

i don't know if it's just my jw roots or what but one of the men who said the prayer in church prayed directly to jesus.

he kept using jesus' name in prayer speaking directly to him on our behalf, he brought out that no other name is higher than that of jesus and when he closed he did so in the name of jesus.

One of the scriptures that guides me to pray to the Father "through" Jesus or in the name of Jesus is Matt. 18:19,20 " 'Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.' " --New International Version

Here is another scripture that supports the idea of praying in Jesus' name. John 14:13,14 " 'And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.' " --New International Version

The apostle Paul also supports the idea of praying in the name of Jesus at Colossions 3:17 "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

For me personally, praying in the name of Jesus or through Jesus is acknowledging that he is The Way to the Father, that his role as Mediator is vital in my relationship with God.

fairchild: Thanks so much for all of the great information and tips! I did not know that I could plant all of those things so much before the first frost. That will help me out a great deal next year. And the tip about banana peels for roses....I am certainly going to use that one. I have one rosebush that is pitiful looking and I've been trying different stuff to perk it up, so this is timely info for me. You are a fount of gardening knowledge!

Do J.W.'s still spank their kids in Kingdom Hall libraries to punish them?

i've heard a lot on this subject, and was wondering if it's a common practice?.

can you go to a meeting and almost always see some poor kid getting a walloping in the back room for talking or misbehaving at the meeting?

or is this a thing of the past?.

This topic brings back so many bad memories. My dad took me and each of my three siblings to the back of the hall for spankings many and many a time. One memory that stands out is from when I was three or four years old. I wasn't sitting still and my dad picked me up rather roughly and I remember screaming all the way back, "Nooooo, daddy, noooo!"

Why not have Children's Church? Kids usually have a hard time sitting still for ten minutes, let alone two hours. I've personally seen how wonderfully kids do when they have a lesson geared to them, get to interact and do artwork and sing, etc. They retain more information, have a great time and the adults are not disturbed during church. Oh, wait...I remember why the WBTS doesn't institute that....because that would be a LOVING and COMPASSIONATE way to handle things!

Mothers Day is for Heathen Apostate Bastards!

i thought it would be cute to mix a little dubdom with mothers day since i'm jealous of everyone who gets ta give their mom sumthin and i can't..........so i'm condemning you damn pagans!mothers day origin moms are the best things that ever happened in the world.

on may 11th every year, we celebrate 'mother's day' as an opportunity to express our love, respect and gratitude to our mothers for all the things she has done for us.

I called my JW mom today and I was tempted to call her on Mother's Day. She asked me what was going on and I said, "I just called to say I love you very much." (Even though my mom is a JW, she is a truly loving and lovely person.) Her voice was a tad quavery as she thanked me and said she loved me, too. See, she knew why I was calling. She knew that I understood how much it hurts her not to be able to celebrate such a special holiday and to receive recognition for doing one's best to be a good mom.

I love my mom and I'm glad that we've become friends, too. Happy Belated Mother's Day to all of the good JW moms who don't get to celebrate.

I usually pray to the Father....and usually I address Him as Heavenly Father and I pray to Him through Jesus. There are times, however, when I have felt moved to address Jesus directly; mostly in order to thank him for what he did for all mankind.

I don't see anything wrong with talking to Jesus but I wonder if maybe some churches focus so much on Jesus that it is nearly to the point of excluding the Father in prayer and worship.

My pet Bunny Died

my pet bunny "hoshi" died on sunday.

she got a bacterial infection, and we did everything to save her.

spent the night in the animal emergency room but they couldn't do much for her.

((((((liquidsky))))))) It is tough to lose a pet. My husband and I have no children together (he has a child who is grown) and our cats are our "babies". I would be SO grieved if one of them died. Pets are family, IMO.

jgnat: I should have known you would already know about the French intensive method. *smacks self in head for stupidity*It sounds like you are doing quite well for the type of environment you have to work with. Anyway, thanks so much for contributing to this thread!

Purza: I'm enjoying getting some good tips on here, too. I used to help my parents and my grandmother a lot with the gardening, canning & preserves growing up, but there were several years I did not do any real gardening. So, I can use all the reminders and new tips I can get.

Frannie Bananni: Thanks for the great tip! I never knew that about epsom salts. I am definitely going to try that.

Celia: Welcome to our gardening discussion!I, too, have a short growing season but the raised beds with curved tubing and plastic covering are sure helpful to us to extend our growing time. This discussion has been so good. I'm getting some great tips & ideas from other posters.

Hey, everybody! My asparagus is up and this is the first harvest! Tomorrow I'm going to cut some that are ready. YAY! Also, my garlic is coming along great now. Last year, when we harvested the garlic, it was SO good. Lots of oil & perfect flavor. It's an heirloom variety as is the asparagus. The tomato seeds sprouted a couple of days ago and my snow pea transplants are taking off like nobody's business. I am happy that things are coming along so well.

Can anyone give me any tips...like do's & don'ts or special pests to watch out for with snow peas? I have never grown them before, so advice will be appreciated!

By the way, thanks to all for your responses. I am thoroughly enjoying this discussion!

Cool--we've got a nice discussion going on here.

Purza: Our soil here was quite sandy, so we decided to make our own soil. I dug a 4'x4'x3' pit for composting and used leaves, grass clippings & food garbage in it and then we brought in a couple of loads of horse manure. We mixed the compost, manure & proper amounts of blood & bone meal and put it into raised beds that we made. The soil is great and I just keep adding compost to keep it great. It was a lot of work to set up but worth it, in the long run.

ballistic: All I can say is this: Better to wait for the right one to come along than to get with a bunch of wrong 'uns.

fairchild: I live in a cool climate, too, so I hear you about overwatering. Oh, BTW--I told my hubby about your organic farm and he thought that was fantastic...I saw the gleam in his eye, so I know he was dreaming about doing that in future. Good thing I have several pairs of work overalls.

(((jgant))): Long time since we chatted on here. Hope things are going well for you & yours. It's somehow not surprising to me that you are of the "green thumb" variety, as well. How tiny is tiny on the yard? French intensive method is the best to grow a lot in a small space...if you are interested in being able to grow more stuff, that is. Take care, jgnat.
