  Skirting the issue

  what argument is put forth that women must only wear dresses or skirts to the meetings or in service and are not permitted to wear slacks?

  where does it say it's wrong for sisters to wear pants, and how are they convincing women in 2005 to buy into this?

  i remember many bitterly cold chicago mornings with frozen legs running to doors and back to the warm car as quickly as possible, wearing a skirt which was ridiculous and inappropriate to the weather conditions.

  What?! Has no one hear heard of wearing 2 or 3 pair of pantyhose under your below-the-knee skirt to help keep your legs warm in freezing weather? Panty girdles that come down almost to the knees help keep warm too.

  My mom even bought an extra large pair of pantyhose for my dad (an elder) to wear in service during one below-freezing winter! And he wore them. Afterall, no one could see them.

  GOD, Who Is He and Why?

  since the age of 15 i wanted to know who was god and why he was who he was.

  and since that day i've come to understand this, god is who he is because he is life.. i've come to understand him as the creator of all.

  In my conclusion in my search for "God" I finally found a definition that suits me: She He It They. S.H.I.T. That's a joke, but not really.

  I believe there is a "God" but this god is not a diety and not desirus nor cognizant of adulation praise worship etc. And this god-entity is not capable of answering our prayers. I believe there are other beings assigned to the universes care and yet another layer of beings that work with humans and other intelligent lifeforms.

  I like what Zen Nudist said about God and Universe. I have some similar feelings. I am the central being in my universe.Yet I am connected to every other "thing" in the universes and the universes themselves. Everything I do has an effect on the universes. Sometimes small, sometimes large. Oh yes, I believe in multiple universes.

  I belive in Buddha, in Jesus, and a number of other previously human divinities, inlcuding Tane', Ku', Pele. (I owe Pele obesance next time in in Hawaii).

  Oh yes, don't forget our Mum - Gaia! She is definitly a major force we are unable to recon with. She has little or no conscience, and yet is an incredibly powerful being! This living planet we inhabit.

  Jehovah? A faeire tale created by men to control the masses.

  It's all been done before...the newbies got me thinking...

  this isn't a negative observation at all, but i've noticed with all the new people here, there are a lot of things i remember being said before being said again.

  some of the things i assumed when i first came here, many are doing again...and it's very interesting to watch.

  i guess the human race is very cyclical.

  It's all been done before...the newbies got me thinking...

  Oh-oh.... WLG is thinking again!

  I have found this same perspective in any "healing" work I've done. We come in broken in some way, we find what we need to heal, and later we/I wonder "wow! was I really there?!?"

  Books that I used to read and was amazed that "OMG how did s/he know I'd be feeling or thinking THAT!" are like reading childrens books.

  And yes, people like DefD have a place here. He puts perspective on why I am no longer a JW, and why I have as open a mind and heart as I do.

  And the cycles begin anew. Is't it amazing?

  yes i have trivialized a lot, but i'm healing so well.

  i was just waiting to explode with exploration of all types of spiritualty that secretly fascinated me.i know i was df'd, i was just surprised i didn't get a chance to appeal, i had a great letter waiting.

  Most who post here are ex-JW's. Many have become athiests, agnostic, buddhists, christians, catholic, etc. Our common denominator is that we are here to discuss Jehovah's Witnesses.

  I see with your posts you are leaning toward Islam. It shows that you are at least searching. I personally don't believe there is "one true religion", as I believe all religion gets corrupted by the power-greedy. If you look at Christianity today, it for the most part is a far cry from what The Christ taught... and far from his actions! I feel the same way about Buddha vs Buddhism. and so on.

  If you are interested in Christianity at all, read the New Testamont. Mostly the Gospels. This is the basis for early christianity. Then Paul took over and (I believe) corrupted it.

  Further I suggest as a searcher that you look at the Bahai faith. I have found more Bahai's to be deeply devoted to God and their beliefs. They are a highly passive group, and teach peace and strong family.

  I, for one, have no need to belong to a group of thought. I am happy with my beliefs and I have come to them on my own, through great searching and experience. Many of my beliefs, I have found after the fact, have groups associated with them. But belonging to a belief structured group is not necessary to feel and be a part of "God" "Jesus" "The Universe" or whatever Higher Power you choose to believe.

  How many of you shunned others when you were a JW?

  i know i did.. we had a young fellow who used to live at my grandmother's place.

  in may ways he was like family.

  after he moved out of my grandmother's place i saw him frequently.

  Sadly, yes.

  the one i'm most regret is the 16 yo friend who was caught by her mother in bed with her stepfather who had been sexually asaulting her since she was 11. She was df'd because she was considered old enough to tell.

  I'd smile at her when she'd walk into the hall. I'd mouth "hello" and "I'm sorry". I never thought her DFing was right. Cuz it wasn't. Step dad wasn't df'd cuz he checked himself into a mental hospital immediately, and got away with public reproof. He was later df'd after being caught with the younger sister!
