  Did you get a better job and/or obtain higher education after leaving JW's?

  While a JW I did janitorial, housekeeping, ironing, and construction site cleanup.

  After I got my GED and got bored being a housewife, I went to work full-time as a file clerk.

  I've spent 7 years in the insurance industry, 3 years in Commercial Property Management, and 15 years in and around the computer industry. Everything from secretarial, office management, account manager, property manager, customer service, insurance agent, technical support, field trainer, systems administration (unix, xenix, vax/vms, novell, ms).

  Always underpaid because I'm a woman.... but those were the times. Can't work now due to FibroMyalgia and arthritis.

  Not bad for a high school dropout, er, ah, pull-out.

  If I can't have the medical kit, I'll take fishing equipment, a variety of hooks and a trident.

  I'm assuming that, unlike Hawaii when the polynesians first landed, there will be plenty of edible and medicinal plants, animals, and birds.

  logans thread on murder had me thinking of a tale shall we say and i would like to know if you feel this is murder or?

  ,,,,,,,,,two people live together ( a man and a women ) and they are both severe drunks.

  they are living in an upstairs apartment and have been drinking non stop for weeks.

  Was your mum prosecuted? I can see the defense being abused victimized wife. If it were him that pushed her, he would have been convicted of at least manslaughter.

  How Well Educated Are You?

  12 years of schooling (and never stayed back, either) for me.....and you?

  10th grade pull-out (16) with a 3.4 gpa to go into the ministry and either pioneer, or find a husband. Bribed with a car.

  I found a husband at 18. I got my GED at 20, and passed first time through with flying colours.

  3 divorces later...

  I have "some" college, and all classes combined in business, communication, and computer sciences, I have a 3.92 gpa. I'm working on my masters from STPU = Seat of The Pants University. So far I'm earning a 4.0!

  I thank gawd and my genetics for a sharp brain.

  I thank my dad for teaching me about simple auto mechanics, electrical wiring and how to read wiring diagrams, and turning me loose in his shop.

  I thank my mom for the "feminine" arts of sewing, pattern making, design, assembly, etc.

  And, believe it or not, I thank the WTS for the Theocraptic Ministry School and Door-to-door ministry for the education to teach and speak to anyone.

  With this background I spent 15 years in the computer industry starting in tech support, moving on to R&D, training, technical writing, systems administration, hardware maintenance, ad nauseum.

  Unfortunately due to FibroMyalgia and Arthritis, I can't work. Pffttthhhttt. But I'm quite proud of my "education" and career, inspite of being a high-school pull-out by religious nut parents.

  PS - I've also done janitorial, house cleaning, construction cleanup, and yardwork. Never would lower myself to flipping burgers, or waiting tables. But I respect those who do or have done.

  I lost my job at Microsoft today...thanks to a wonderful economy...

  for the last few years, many of my friends have lost their jobs and have not found suitable replacements.

  most are on unemployment, and those whose unemployment has run out are simply eeking out some meager existence doing something they don't like, that doesn't pay well, and doesn't help to really reduce the stress they face every day.. well, to be honest, i used to laugh my ass off at them.

  ha ha ha i would say.

  Hey, Fark, I understand the dinosaur bit.

  As a secretary, I started on an 8086 in about 1983 with Dos 2.? WordStar and SuperCalc. (I hard-wire networked 4 computers to share 3 printers! And they said it couldn't be done.) l learned how that bitsy beastie ran and ended up in the computer industry for 15+ years doing everything from tech support, teaching, R&D, net admin (unix, vax/vms, novell, windows server), whatever.

  Today I still use dial-up on a Win98 box, and don't even own a cell phone.

  I'm also no longer working because of FibroMyalgia and arthritis. Working on getting SSD.

  Never been without work unless I've wanted to, or because, like now, I've had to.

  What grammatical errors bug you the most?

  for me it's the use of : .

  it's as a possessive - it's means "it is", so if you don't want to say "it is" don't use the apostrophe.

  there are others that bug me but this one is the worst.

  "I could care less"

  Well, if you could care less, it means that you care.

  Me, I couldn't care less.

  Also, the to/too, their/they're/there, et.al., bug me, too.

  The above was drilled into me by an excellent english teacher. Otherwise, I'm a lousy speller - consistant in my spelling errors (other than typos), but lousy.

  the news concerning hurricane frances has affected all of us who have relatives and friends in fla.. aol.

  posted a news comment from a pastor that i thought was the typical response from religious leaders who don't have anything better to offer their flock.

  Unfortunately, the pastor's right, though what the "lord" has to do with it... Frances will do whatever he/she does, and it will be over when "the fat lady sings". A person can either accept that, or not, but there is no control over "the lord, or the weather".
