Like most women, Serena Williams wants a man who’ll adore her, respect her and be faithful, but she also has another requirement for any future love interest. He must be a Jehovah’s Witness.
“I think it’s important when you marry to be evenly yoked,” said Serena, who is currently working toward becoming a member of that faith.
“I’ve been studying to be a Jehovah’s Witness, so I go to Kingdom Hall,” she told S2S Publisher Jamie Foster Brown. “I grew up a Witness and it’s what I know and we teach things that come from the Bible.”

Court Overturns Jehovah's Witnesses Blood Ban

ST. PETERSBURG, March 28 (RIA Novosti)
Doctors at a St. Petersburg hospital had to ask a court to sanction a blood transfusion for a child whose parents, members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses religion, had refused to give permission on religious grounds, city child rights commissioner Svetlana Agapitova said on Wednesday.
On Monday a car ran down three pedestrians in central St. Petersburg, including a woman with a baby in a stroller.
The girl was in a serious condition and needed an urgent blood transfusion and an operation but her father forbade the doctors to administer the procedure.
“It turned out that he is a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses whose religion forbids blood transfusion even when a person’s life is in danger,” Agapitova said in a press release posted on her website.
The father's lawyer told the doctors they had no right to perform any medical intervention without parental permission, even in a life or death situation.
Only a court ruling could reverse their decision.
The hospital chief went to a court which issued an order within hours that a blood transfusion and operation be carried out as soon as possible.
The operation went ahead but the girl’s injuries are very serious and she remains in a near-critical condition.

Todd Maisel/New York Daily News A man jumped to his death Wednesday from 15th floor of 245 Wortman Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn. A troubled man jumped to his death from a Brooklyn rooftop Wednesday in front of horrified bystanders below, police and witnesses said.
Neighbors identified the man as Dwayne Fagan, 48, a devout Jehovah’s Witness, who plunged 15 stories to his death.
Before his death, the suicidal man warned of hurting himself in a series of disturbing texts messages between him and a family member, a police source said.
Fagan left his seventh-floor apartment in the Linden Houses in East New York and headed toward the roof around 12:45 p.m., sources said.
A ledge above the the building’s entrance broke Fagan’s fall, before he tumbled to the ground, cops and witnesses said.
“I saw him land — it was so loud,” said eyewitness Antoinette George, 25, who lives in the same building on Wortman Ave. near Van Siclen Ave. “I thought someone had thrown an air conditioner off the roof. I screamed and screamed for a minute straight.”
“All his limbs were broken” the startled woman said. “He was lifeless.”
