Poster country flags and privacy
by Simon inthe new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).
before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.
first, the reason i think it should be shown:.

I am agreeing with Scully( quote )
"I prefer to opt out of disclosing that information on my profile. If someone wants to attempt to identify me, they can bloody well work for it,posts, rather than having it automatically served to them on my pr. "
I'd opt out of my country and gender and any info on profile.
btw, years ago it was VERY common for posters to list fake countries of origin . We were all so afraid.

Rasputin and Serums and Herbs--Oh My!
by rebel8 ini have written a blog post about the dubs and their scorn of modern medicine and rasputin, while simultaneously touting unproven, dangerous cures.. i wonder what it is about a fake remedy that makes jws believe in it or scorn it?.

I just read your blog and recall all of that Rebel- all of it. We were once invited to a cong get together and it turned out to be a Shaklee party. We showed up and everyone was dressed up really fancy, party. I found out it was a recruiting party for Shaklee and told them we were not the least bit interested - we were asked to leave. We were surprised but not too much having remembered how the jws got all messed up with the pyramid schemes of the 60's.

I have not read the blog yet either( but will) but know jws tend to go to extremes a lot of times. I think we can avail ourselves of modern medicine and use some alt. medicine too. I once had a sis try to sell me a line of Vits - the catch was I had to really believe they would cure me. I declined. Pills either work or they don't . The wtbs has a long history of supporting quackery . If you had access to the Golden Age you'd see some of the ridiculous things for sale in them. I like to use a website called http://www.quackwatch.com/
I knew a sister who nearly killed herself with herbal meds. She damaged her liver. Herbs are not side effect free. I own Herb and vit and supplement guide books and use them . they can be helpful but not everyone should take them , in other words, RTFM. before taking herbs, vits or supplements.
I think you might be able to get the best of both western and eastern medicine that way.
Miles you comments were great, you just did not understand the topic.
btw, wanted to add jws are not the only folks who use almost voodoo medicine. lots of folks do this.

i cannot see the captcha facility to enable me to prove i'm a humanzee and log-on.
so i could not gain access to my account and participate - despite trying numerous suggestions provided on the internet.. i tried one last thing - i downloaded mozilla firefox (never tried it before) and it by-passes the captcha function and gives me access now.. i look forward to getting acquainted with the new-look web site.. thanks simon..

I realty must have had spy ware b/c now IE is asking for a Captula too. Still not staying signed in but feel more secure with IE now, even if the captula is irritating. -

I have to sign in with IE and Chrome every time. IE fills in my password and stuff and asks me if I am a robot , I say NO and then I sign in. I do not see any option for staying signed in. Maybe I have missed it. IE has always offered me to save my passwords and it is saving them it is just not letting me stay signed on. Chrome makes me fill out a scary Captcha , which IE does not.
I very much prefer IE to Chrome. I just never got used to having to add on stuff that IE already on it. I never like Firefox either.

Simon,
I think you were right. I ran junk ware removal tool and other malware removal programs and I had somehow allowed Mindspark onto Chrome. also had a wininit.ini which I have no idea what is but the removal tool got it. It is all gone now.
the only hitch a lou I am seeing is I have to sign in every time. IE is nicer, it just asks me if I am a robot and I say NO and it auto fills in my passcode. Chrome makes me fill in the passcode and a captulua every time. I can't seem to find a way to stay signed on in either browser. But that is not too bad.
thanks for solving the Active issue. I have not tried out the message center b/c I think we are doing really well just to be online.
Merry Christmas Simon and family
