Thanks Robdar for that information im more informed now.
Parakeet, Just ask Robdar I phoned her up once or twice she will tell you i talk just like the Queen or the Prince.Mainly like the prince actually
dont get me wrong im not a yanky basher like some we know but when visiting my dad the other day got me thinking when he played a dvd he had.. the dvd was of a concert of religious music by the assembly of god and the sdas most of the program was very good with excellent prerformers and uplifting music.
i thought the sdas in the states looked like they were being influenced by the more charasmatic a of g people because many were raising there hands like the aof g do.. there was nothing too unusual until about two thirds through when some marines marched in with the yanky flag with a marine either side complete with rifle .
the remainder of the concert was dedicated to nationalistic hyms of which i cant recall the titles.

the old testament yhwh was a simple solo god almighty.
in the new testament the nature of god becomes quite confusing based on some expressions of jesus and the nt writers.
from a higher critic point of view, why did the nt writers introduce such confusion?.
Gday JW , I beleive tha that christian doctrine is developed and thats what Vincent of Lerins beleived in the fifth century. john Henry Newman is the modern champion
of the developement of doctrine and he wrote an essay on testing a doctrine if it is a true developement of doctrine.
The beleif the Jews had st the time of christ is that they were promiced a land, not eternal life or a trip to heaven and so the beleif of going to heaven is also a developement of doctrine.
In the christian era slavery was permitted but later it was decided that slavery should be avoided as much as possible. Another developement

Gday parakeet, Actually i dont say anything when Im Yanky bashing mainly because Im a Yanky supporter as Ive said before. I think its because we are from slightly different cultures and some things you do are a bit odd. As you may know our head of state isnt even an Australian she is English. When we go to court its The Crown v John Doe not the people v John Doe. Also we all speak the Queens english here. Also our head of state isnt a politician

Gday looking glass, I note that youre aussie friends noticed the American flag and some here in Australia now fly the aussie flag more now. When I first visited California the flags stood out too. While I said America is a big cult it may be it just seems that way to me Im just not used to soldiers comming into church meetings. Also some SDAs take the same position as the JWs and dont partake in war or join the military and I would say being in this meeting would be offencive too them.

Gday IP-Sec, I would think religion would accept all people as brothers and wars could be avoided as much as possible for the highest of ideals. I used the word Cult because there people seemed over the top. We sing the national anthem on Anzac , Australia day or God save the Queen when she comes over here. Never in church and we wouldnt have guns in church either or at a religious service.Dont you yankys know it is customary to disarm at the foyer of a church

One with words to the effect 'this land is my land from California to New York another about how beautiful america is and I think they had the national anthem in there somewhere. There was also a speech by George W and then they all got there little yanky flags out and waved them just as hard as they could.
I dont have a problem with nationalism or self defence but doesnt christianity have the highest standards which we must strive for but at the same time realise we live in an imperfect world?
Do other religious groups in the states behave this way in religious services and is it that the states is one big cult? I know the JWs dont.
.
the witnesses always said that at some point in time, it will be too late to join, the doors will be closed.. do you believe that will happen, or is it just to scare the witnesses?
and what would trigger the watchtower to decide, it's too late?
This sounds like the Adventist doctrine of the'Shut Door'. After the great dissapointement of 1844 when Jesus didnt come the few that were left in the Millerite movement decided that probation had closed for the rest of the world and no one but them could be saved. They held to this for a few years and then it was dropped. Of course no Adventist holds to that doctrine these days.
my youngest is toying with the idea of adopting the vegan lifestyle.
she came to me at 11pm last evening with a strict list of what she wanted me to purchase for her as soon as the store opened this morning.
her enthusiasm could easily have been mistaken for "preaching".... and i'm afraid it didn't foster a very receptive spirit in me.. my main concern is her having adequate nutrition.
A vegan diet is much more challenging to get a good diet as there was a study done on vegans and it was found they all lacked in vitamin B12. This vitamin is only found in animal foods.
to believe the watchtower story takes a high degree of arrogance.
to think you were so special that god drew you to his organization for salvation.
but 6 billion other humans deserve destruction, is placing huge value on your own importance.. if you converted to being a jw do you think you were sucked in because you did not know the full story (ignorance) or was it because you really wanted to believe you were more special than everyone else (arrogance)?
I studied with the witnesses for a time and there are many aparently attractive things about the witnesses religion.
The witnesses seem a much more united group. In my own church there was never a time when everyone was united on doctrine
The witnesses witness door to door while other christians do witness they never do it with such energy the JWs
The witnesses told me about the trinity being pagan and for a while I thought they had scripture on there side
With all the meetings they have they do seem to beleive and put it into practice more than most
These are first impressions only from an outsider
