Are the Adventists looking to attract downtrodden JW's?

sorry if anyone has already posted on this but i did not see anything related in the few pages of active topics i checked.. last saturday i went to an oil change facilty and one of their perks is they give you a copy of the current usa today while you wait in your car.

on page 8a is a full page ad titled "liberty of conscience threatened.... a national sunday law will be established as the mark of the beast.".

the article then goes on a typical adventist rant about how saturday, not sunday, is the real sabbath established by god.

As a former Adventist I may be able to help here.

Jwop, All christians are taken to heaven at the second comming.

The lake of fire is where the satan and also the wicked are punished at the end of the thousand years. This is not a punishment for ever and ever but only for a time determined by God.

jThe paradise on earth is for the faithful after the thousand years.

Yadda Yadda, I beleive most Adventists would see shunning as unchristian I have not experianced it and I haven't even heard of it being used.

Da Cheech, Adventists only observe the sabbath not the other jewish festivals. The reason Adventists have the sabbath is because its on e of the ten commandments and separate from the rest of the jewish law. Barry

What issue might effect changes to the GB of Jehovahs Witnesses

it would have to be a grass roots issue and something that questions their authority for ever .. an non doctrinal issue may catch the gb by supprise.. many issues have allready been resolved in a very dramatic way slavery is now not a problem, women have the vote and we are taught to respect minority groups.. on the other hand what about a grass roots issue by jehovahs witnesses to accept womens ordination of elders.

other churches such as the anglicans now have women ordained to the ministry the adventists have had women pastors commissioned for a while now and have just voted in some unions to have women ordained to give women the same rights as men.

i just wondered what your thoughts are on this?.

Ellen White came up with the idear that Jesus was Michael the angel at the time she wa an Arian. Ellen White changed her thinking about the turn of the 20th century and accepted the doctrine of the Trinity. Today Adventists beleive the doctrine of the trinity but still retain the doctrine that Jesus is Michael. Barry

anyone know the current wt teachings on the length of time humans have been in existence?

do they still teach that the first man and woman were created approximately 6,000 years ago?

have they made any comments on archeological findings that show paleo-indians living in the america's 10,000+ years ago?

In the 17 century Uusher calculated the earth was 6000 years old also in the same century Lightfoot caculated Adam was created at 9am on friday morning.

The cronology when using the septuagent translation of the bible made the earth 1500 years older and was rejected. Barry

As a former Adventists I was just about to post that Marmite is made up at Coorongbong New South Wales at the Seventh Day Adventist Factory there. They also have a College their where students can work to supplement their income while they go through college. The profits go to the church

we need to examine the earliest known descriptions of the kind of crucifixion adopted by the romans and the specific terms they used to refer to it.

apparently the society believes that crux still meant "stake" in the second century a.d., when tacitus composed his annals.
