less than 1/2 of them cannot identify the century when our civil war happened.. one in four thought columbus discovered america sometime after 1750.. one in three cannot name one right enumerated in the bill of rights.. three out of four cannot name the first us president.. two out of three do not know the length of term of a member of the house of representatives.. half cannot find britain on a map.. one out of four cannot find america on a map.. when my oldest daughter, who is now a physician was in 9th grade in this once-great state of california, i asked her about the three branches of our federal government.

she was clueless and told me she would take civics in her junior year in high school.

I went to California for my holidays and while there and watching the news on TV the content was all about America. Being Australian and haveing been used to news from all over the world I just had the feeling that not only did Australia not exist but it seemed the rest of the world didn't exist either. I also understand the education in the states is a bit different because you study about the world starting from your own town and district in the early years and as you go up in grades you study more about th erest of the world only in higher grades. This is where there is a great divergence with us over here in Australia because we study at least when I was at school about the whole world and because of our culture we study the British empire including the Boston Tea party and the war of independance from Britain

From 1966 to 191 is 25 years flying with United. He is just highlighting his Flying experience and he isnt even saying he was captain for 25 years. His total experience is nearly 50 years and most pilots as said before are involved in training to get hours up I know some who did glider towing to get free hours and after 1991 maybe he was just a private pilot. Question for Current or Former Elders (baptism of minors)

i have joint custody of my two children with my ex husband who is still raising the kids on his time as jws.

my 11 year old claims she is getting baptized at the next assembly.

i have heard that i can write a letter to the boe and say that i oppose her getting baptized before she is 18. is that true?

Will Rudd learn from the lesson of Brown?

isn't australian politics fascinating?

having toppled the woman who first toppled him, prime minister rudd now faces the choice of calling an election sooner or later.

it was a similar choice that faced gordon brown in the uk when he replaced tony blair in 2007. gordon brown was remarkably popular at the time, a brief popularity that came out of nowhere and that equally disappeared never to return.

I believe there is a honeymoon period for Rudd and if he doesn't move soon his party will be wiped out anyway
