How much of a Witness are you? Take the quiz!
by AlmostAtheist ini've wasted most of a day putting this quiz together.
it's only 10 questions, please give it a go and see what you get!.
if you think it could make a decent anti-witnessing tool, i might dress it up with links to the quotes site and the watchtower site to prove the accuracy of the points made.. if you see any inaccuracies or misleading comments, please let me know.. url = http://www.thebentinel.com/jw-quiz.php (embedded below).

Church from Bible, Bible from Church?
by Big Dog inafter leaving the borg and through research convincing myself that the wbts did not have the "truth" i began to read a wide variety of religous materials and tried to delve into as many faiths as possible.
i was curious what others believed and after growing up in such an insular faith i found it fascinating to learn about all the different philosophies and beliefs.
one particular issue i found especially interesting, and that was the issue of sola scriptura, " simply stated, the protestant doctrine of sola scriptura ("scripture alone") teaches that every teaching in christian theology (everything pertaining to "faith and practice") must be able to be derived from scripture alone.

From what Ive learnt most of the canon was there by the second century but Hebrews to Revelation were not accepted until later Revelation being the last to be accepted in the eastern churches because they beleived Revelation was not written by John. In 371ad was the first time we have all the books listed as the canon by Pope Damasis. I beleive the catholic position is correct that the bible is a product of the church but I also beleive the church must agree with scripture or otherwise there are inconsistancies in youre beleif system.
What I found as very interesting is the fact that in the early church the baptisimal formula varied from different areas and was slightly different in wording but was allways trinitarian which later developed into the creeds. Vincent of lerins in the 5th centry talked about this and said christian doctrine is developed just as a child grows into a man. The modern champion of the developement of doctrine is John Henry Newman who wrote an essay on the developement of christian doctrine in 1845

The rise and fall of my R/C Helicopter! :-(
by AlmostAtheist init's the most money i've spent on a toy since as long as i can remember, a little over $300.
i spun it around on the floor a bit (like the video said i was supposed to) and in about 3 minutes of that, i managed to crash it -- into my own leg, no less -- and break off the thingy that holds on the blades.
argh!!!

I do fly the fixed wing ones and I have a one third pitts special as my next project with a 50cc engine.

Did you believe that the "Pope" was infalliable when you were Catholic?
by booker-t inmy roman catholic aunt has been a "devout" catholic for over 30 years and when the pope recently became ill she told me that god would not allow the pope to die but would take him directly to heaven because the pope is sinless.
i am not familar with catholic doctrines so i was caught off guard with my aunt but for any posters out there that were devout catholics like my aunt do catholics really believe that the pope is without sin and cannot die?

Their has been many bad Popes and Catholics know this, Catholics beleive the Pope is Infallible not Impecable. Infallible when he s a prounouncement of doctrine or faith

What sort of King would Prince Charles be?
by onacruse ina shameless spin-off of http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/85172/1.ashx.
he's the one who couldn't keep his pants zipped (except when it came to diana).
so why all this vitriol against camilla?
-
barry
I thought Camilla was Catholic isnt that a problem too. Charls is the head of the Anglican Church when he becomes King.

Trading on the forex is trading with leverige if you buy 10 contracts for 15 thousand Australian dollars you will get one million dollars to trade so a movement of only 1 cent in youre favour would be ten thousand dollars. A movement against you would be the reverse by the same amount and the bank will be on to you immediately to top up youre account.
