I beleive it is a teaching against intollerance.
The true church is all those who trust in the merits of christ, and is not any single denomination.
mark 9: 38-40 nwt.
38 john said to him: ?teacher, we saw a certain man expelling demons by the use of your name and we tried to prevent him, because he was not accompanying us.?
39 but jesus said: ?do not try to prevent him, for there is no one that will do a powerful work on the basis of my name that will quickly be able to revile me; 40 for he that is not against us is for us.
I beleive it is a teaching against intollerance.

does anyone know if other christian denominations recommend a form of alternative military service as a preferred appraoch to issue of war/military service?
i thought i remember reading that adventists and others do this.
Among SDAs alternative military service would be a minority position.
SDAs have different positions depending on their concience it includes alternative military service, non combat roles in the military and full combat roles in the military.
The church gives support to all positions and they have their chaplins in the forces. The head of chaplins in the US navy is an SDA, cant think of his name right but I could look it up.
our resident pretend-jw-scholar who calls himself "scholar" enjoys justifying lying and misrepresentation by the watchtower society and himself.
the society, out of one side of its collective mouth, recommends not misrepresenting source references, yet out of the other side, goes ahead and does so without hesitation whenever it is convenient.
the society understands that unfair quoting is dishonest.
These posts are great Theile and Gentry are SDAs just like me. When I become a JW I will have all the information to confuse and confound the faithfull at the KH. They would have to accept my baggage that Ive been brought up an SDA and may know about these gentleman and there writings. I can just see the look on there faces priceless.

the easter bunny has been hopping around the board with his basket....how many can you find?.
Yea but you cant eat them.

christopher eccleston is the new (and 9th) dr and was previously in the excellent "second coming" (where he played christ who reappear at maine road ... you really had to see it, lol).

I find it hard to accept a new DR who but after a few episodes I can get right into it
jehovah's witnesses have recently done an about-face on their teachings about god, the bible, creation and evolution, and are about to announce major changes in their teachings on these things.
on their website, they say that "faith in god is merely an emotional experience.
" "god is not an explanation" of the universe, they now teach.. as regards the question of origins, "our universe is all a matter of chance.
Being an SDA myself I took interest in the SDA Robert gentry being quoted in the creation book and Edwin Theile. Scholar says is perhaps the greatest chronologist of the 20th century in christendom.
My dad an SDA elder and most prominent lay preachers in the region nor I have any knowledge of these two individuals. It may be their books are written for a small range of members or they havent promoted there books sufficiently. Even some seemingly best sellers in the SDA community are failures from a publishing point of view and cant be equated to the JW method of selling their books where everyone is a best seller eg book study books.
I couldnt even find a quote from Robert Gentry in the Faith and Science conferences in Denver Colorado 2004 and Glacier View Colorado in 2003 where the SDA church is trying to come to terms with evolution v creation and people from both sides are presenting their papers and appealing for understanding on these issues.
Theile and Gentry are certainly not household names in the SDA community nor in the wider christendom.
i know the jws try but imho they miss the mark because they do not all partake, as described in the bible, and they do not do the foot washing as commanded in those verses as well.
i am hard pressed to find a religion that actually does "do this in remembrance of me" as explained in the bible accounts by jesus.
does anyone know if there is a religion that tries to re-enact the event as it is described in the bible?
Im an SDA and yes the SDAs ave foot washing at the communion service the men and women separate for the foot washing. The way it is done is you pick a partner you wash his feet and he will wash yours. After that everyone meets back in the church and the bread and grapejuice are blessed and served to the congragation the grapejuice in small individual glasses.
The footwashing and sacraments is open to christians of any denomination even JWs if they chose to attend. Barry

Alan are you Fair Dinkum?
i'm just feeling a little naughty today - i'm just kinda interested in your views.
Sorry but on the above post Im slightly wrong the Mormons have the Levitical priesthood and the Aronic priesthood. The bloke I was talking about called the Aronic priesthood the Moronic priesthood, and he was so proud of soon becoming a Moronic priest.

Ive met a few Mormons and even been to their church.
One of the first lessons they will give you they will talk about Joseph Smith and ask you to receive him as youre prophet and to pray that the Holy Spirit leads you to that conclusion.
If you go to their church you will be put in a class for non mormons and be taught their beleifs. I once had a girl friend who told me about her former boy friend who was a mormon. She told me they have two priesthoods the Aronic and the moronic priesthood. She told me how proud her former boyfriend was that he was to be a moronic priest.
Mormon missionarys sometimes go to Churches of other denominations to try to get converts, while I havent experianced that, my Dad is an SDA elder and he told me they went to his church.
They dont seem to be as extreme as the JWs
