i would like to say that any of you that read this board are more than welcomed to be a part of this group.
i know some of you are afraid.
some of you are unsure.
DHL: Ouch. What horrible parents, even by JW standards. Through my own experiences with my family, I know that the ones that fanatically shun me, are dysfunctional ANYWAYS, with or without the religion. JW religion justifys and encourages their dysfunction. It is not you baby, it is them.

great...now thats out of the way, i need you guys to do me a favour, i have been reading up on jws for the past three/four years, the people are pleasent enough and live fairly ordinary lives....some could say boring....(lets call up susie for a game of cards!!!!!
i come here with a problem....my problem is simple and clear cut, it could even be summed up in one word..."hope".

I never left, I was kicked out on my ass. I devoted my whole life to JWs, my husband of 14 years finally got arrested and thrown in jail for abuse, I informed the elders, they only publically reproved him even though he confessed to them and did not stop the abuse, I left him in spite of their admonition to stay and work it out, I met someone else 6 months later, I was quickly df'ed. Since then, the unloving attitude of the JW has shocked me. Love is not THE identifying mark of their religion therefore they are not the true religion. So much of what I have learned is just by following my instincts about this religion and seeing it for what it really is, not 'the truth', just a group of men who prey on ppl that are really really afraid of death.

Why are you so afraid of being discourage? Personally, I love it if people challenge me because it only opens the door for me to have stronger convictions or to learn and change. I would never cower, shake and be afraid of someone trying to discourage me because if I CAN be discouraged, then my faith wasn't very strong anyways was it? OR something is very very wrong with my belief system and I WANT TO KNOW!!! I encourage discouragement.

well, not surprised, i have been telling them and others who ask that the org is hugely corrupt, apostate, blasphemers, hypocrites etc.
maybe because i told someone about the un thing and she may have told someone else, or maybe they're just spring-cleaning.
at any rate they(2 elders ) came round unannounced and beat about the bush in a pitiful way.i put them out of their misery eventually, by telling them that in no way did i consider myself a jw, nor did i believe the gb were god's mouthpiece.i said a lot more besides, i re-informed one, informed the other all about the un thing and offered him proof - no - he didn't want to see.
I love your nonchalant attitude about the whole thing.

Good one Funkyderek! So true. Although I have have done no actually testing of the language level in the Awake mag, my years of experience in education tell me that it is around a grade 5/6 level. Anyone heard any different? Secondly, I have been and still am finishing off a degree in university. Let me tell you the hardest things I had to learn: 1) Coming up with my OWN answer, essays are not about the right answer, they are about being able to sufficiently support your thesis in a coherent, smooth manner that befits the higher field of education. In other words, they would not TELL me the answer, I had to come up with one of many possibilities myself and then support my thoughts with references, and use English spelling, grammar, sentence structure etc, as perfectly as possible. 2) References. EVERYTHING has to be references, all articles, quotes, web pages, books, videos etc. "Works Cited" or whatever you call it. Old fashion way is Footnotes. SO, the Awake is NOT = to a college education for the simple fact that it is READING. Certainly NOT forming a thesis, supporting or challenging the material, expanding the material with your own viewpoints, etc. What a load of crap to say that....education is NOT reading and regurgitation. SECONDLY, the Awake references NOTHING....just like "a sister in Toronto said...." What was her name? or half quotes, or quotes out of context....who wrote the article? etc.... The stupid Awake does not teach you to question your sources. It teaches the opposite. THAT is not education. Jez
haven't been in the door of a khall in nearly a year and haven't had one visit from any of my old elder "buddies?".
did have two newer eldub idiots stop by about two months after i stopped completely.
told them that if they were there to complain and bitch then they might as well get their fat asses down the drive and not come back.. ran into a eldub that i served on the body with last weekend, he completely ignored me even when i acknowledged his existence.

well my sister and her husband are now working towards figuring out the custody issues and divorce.
both being very civil about it.

Don't you see world events, its latter than you think; its the generation Christ spoke of and millions now living will never die. Go and get the meat in due season from the lords table, do not be mislead. It is a fine thing for brothers to sell their homes and not advance their education and go where the need is great in these closeing days of this old sysetm.

i was playing monopoly the other night and reminiscing on the different editions (i have the british, london one) - have played the american one, and various continental, and there are various ''movie'' editions -well, last night as i was playing, i was thinking how much fun a jw one would be....need a bit of input for this... eg, started to snigger when i picked up the ''it's your birthday.....'' i suggest ''it's your birthday, collect a shunning from each player''.
then there's the free parking , err....''free bible study''?
The properties could be 'territory cards' You try to collect all of the same 'territory' and then once you have all the same colors, you can then start to PREACH in those colors.
Instead of building houses, you build little ppl onto your territory. If another player lands on your territory, you read out your card and it might say something like, "If 3 ppl=must pay $100 to cover costs of publications"
Congregation chest could say things like:
"That time of the month! Pay $5.00 to contribution box"
"You forgot to hand in your time, Pay service attendant $10"
"Caught gossiping, pay elders wife $10 because you stole her position as chief gossiper"
"You gave up the back row for a family of 4, collect $20!!"
"You talk got all g's. Wow. Collect $30"
I could go on, but I will stop.
The figurines that move around the board could be 'elder' 'rank and file' 'anointed' 'book study conductor' 'child' etc.
