i finally figured out why i'm so socially retarded...it just hit me.. here i was sitting and wondering why i have such a hard time meeting new people, making friends, thinking of relevent things to say, and so on.

it really is painful and scary for me.

i was told who i could talk to, who i couldn't talk to, what i could say, what i couldn't say.

The problem is that you have barrelled into this thread and insinuated that if any of us claim that the JW upbringing screwed up our ability to have normal social interaction, we must be deluded and it's really a flaw in our own characters, and to get over it and stop blaming the JWs because it had nothing to do with them. I know you did not exactly SAY those words, but that was the cumulative effect. Your subsequent posts indicate that you stand by that opinion.

Odrade: Calm down. Take your anger out on someone else and stop using me as a convienent target. You are right, I did not SAY those words. What you have stated above are YOUR thoughts. I certainly care about the experiences of everyone here and have grown to love/respect many ppl on this board. I already apologized to MERRY if I offended her. YOU have seen fit to take on a little side battle of your own with no prompting from MERRY at all. What is your agenda? I would never say to someone to "Get over it and stop blaming JWs because it had nothing to do with them." Amazing how people can twist and bend someone elses words until they fit into your own perspective. Please read with a critical eye and be careful of any leftover 'cult' mentality of your own ability to twist and add meaning where you see fit.

mkr: Stop yelling at me. I never ever ever said "you should have been worldly like me". LOL! I am being attacked here for stating my experience as a teenager. It was not wonderful, but only do I realize that by looking back as an adult. Only now do I realize how abnormal of a life I had, living it though was quite different. I thought nothing twice of being a JW and doing other non-JW stuff. Please allow me to learn from my experience from sharing it with others. That is what this board is all about. IF I need to readjust my thinking, well I have elderette Odrade to make sure I do, you are not needed. I WAS a JW, please don't be so presumptuous as to assume to know my life. It seems people here are angry that I claim to have been raised as a JW???????? What's it to you?

BigDog: Thanks for those insightful words about the meaning of hypocrisy etc. Ppl assume that I should have known better as a teenager and therefore do not have the RIGHT to call myself a witness...LOL. Want to join me in a big online apostafest of love? (Hugging BD)

Nice example of the black and white thinking that exists amongst JWs. That is a bunch of bullshit. I think an elder said to me once, "If you had sex outside of marriage, you commit adultry, you should be disfellowshipped." Is that what you think? With no understanding of any other factors? See, they KNEW that I lived in an abusive relationship for 14 years, in silence, for them, for Jehovah, for my family, until one night he was arrested and thrown in jail and I survived with my life. They KNEW that the turmoil I was in, they KNEW everything, they knew I met and fell in love with someone way after the seperation, not DURING the marriage, they knew I married him.......etc...they knew intimate things, but you know what it comes down to? YOUR kind of black and white thinking. There is no grey area for a dub. You say you are not a JW anymore? Well, that certainly is a carry-over, you hypocrite.

Growing up a teenager was a grey area for me. I repeat, dont be afraid of anyone that does not fit into your little preconception of what a witness was, is or should be. My dad allowed me to be who I was, my mother was the fanatic and still is. I survived, but not without scars from my teenage years, how much is from being a JW and how much is from just life? Hell! I don't know! Perhaps I will someday, maybe not, whatever. I don't want to dwell on it and am wondering if it even matters for myself.

Also, alot of people on here seem like real good little witnesses. But I believe that there is a strong undercurrent in every congregation of 'double-lifers'. Not a bad thing btw. It was, apparently, a very healthy thing!

LMAO, to the comments about the 'uncomfortable' silence during the passing of the emblems. The speaker finally said something, he said, "You know, the bread is flat, therefore it was broken up and passed around, there is no significance to breaking the bread other than the fact that it is flat therefore easier to pass around."

I was like WHA????? Why even say that???? Then I started to giggle, I was like, "LOL, nice filler comment."

Mine: 45 mins. Quick and boring. Meant nothing. The speaker talked about the same ol stuff...at the end, the speaker woke everyone up with, "Oh, and we are pleased to announce..anyone that would like to have a free bible study with JWs can approach one of the attendants tonight."

Noticably less ppl there than in years past.

Funny: Hall is totally uncomfortably quiet while the wine is being passed around-old sister says right out loud, "I just always have to smell it". LOL

i won the court hearing yesterday.

the attempt by the watchtower society to have portions of my affidavit struck down was unsucessfull.

four days have been set aside for the next court hearing, april 25, 26, 27, 28 at queens bench court house, calgary, alberta.

Novels set in Canada

i am going to canada in may for a holiday and want to take some books to read.

i really like to read fiction that is set in the place i'm visiting and i'd also be quite keen to start getting in the mood before i go.

so i was wondering if there are keen readers out there who could point me in the direction of any great canadian novels - particularly anything set around the great lakes - superior, hudson, ontario,michigan, erie....any suggestions very welcome!

Alistar MacLeod: The Lost Salt Gift of Blood Very much romantizes the Maritimes (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI) I really enjoyed this read because it dives into how saturated the area is with history.

Alice Munro: The Progress of Love A series of short stories. The last one, "White Dump" is great. I did an essay on it once. Very symbolic and all about temptation within marriage. This book highlights memories and how they are falliable, how unsure we are of how love works. There is a layered effect to the stories, so don't know if you like that kind of reading or not. I loved how this book shows that memories change to hide knowledge, skew events and to what purpose that is done. How memory sustains ones idea of relationships, love etc. Not WHAT happens, but HOW it happens.

If you like poems: The Dominion of Love "An anthology of Canadian Poems". Edited by Tom Wayman.

Those are the only ones that I enjoyed out of the many that I was forced to read.

A comment I heard tonight

tonight i heard one of the most cruel and twisted comments i've ever heard at the platform.

the topic was the apocalypse and whether or not children will be slaughtered.

through one side of his mouth, the po stated that the bible is not clear on the matter, while out the other side he pointed to all those old testament accounts where children were killed.

Yes, I do know what they claimed. And, no that isn't my "big secret". And, yes, I'm very definitely suggesting that "they are withholding the real reason they were involved with the UN." And, as I've already said: It was nothing more than "theocratic warfare," waged for a purpose that I won't disclose to you.

Why should we believe you that it 'was nothing'? Your "take my word for it" attitude is very JWish. You don't even go to meetings, yet you have INSIDE information? Give over! Why don't you go to meetings?
