Shunning will not cease as long as the JW cult exists. It's interwoven into the fabric of the rules made for the rank and file by the suits in Brooklyn. Shunning can only be stopped on an individual to individual basis. This usually results in the one that stops shunning realizing how wrong they were and in turn getting the treatment from those they know too. Only the entire collapse of the "Society's" control over the JW rank and file culture and the destruction of the organization as it is today could result in the abolishment of the "rule"
Any law passed targeted at the JW's view on shunning could be abused in other ways. It doesn't take a JW to shun. Many families have rifts within their structure due to financial or other disagreements which cause a member to shun another.....suddenly this would be against the law? There is also no way to enforce a law of this kind. You can't pick up the phone and call the cops crying "My brother is shunning me!" It's just not feasable in a real world situation as nice as it sounds.

Has anybody successfully quit using caffeine altogether?
by DanTheMan inmy anxiety and stress levels are really bad lately.
i think i'd be doing myself a favor to quit caffeine, as it has become a real catch-22 for me, where i need it to stay awake, but it causes me to lose sleep, so i need more of it to stay awake, etc.. i've learned through experience that i'm very sensitive to any sort of chemical substance that affects neurotransmitter flow, and, given my general propensity towards depression/anxiety/paranoia/add, i think that at least one thing i could do to give me a calmer, more stable neurotransmitter mix would be to eliminate caffeine.
i've tried to reduce before, and i've found that i just start making excuses to have a little more, a little more, until i'm right back where i started.. so, i'm just wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience where they felt the need to not just reduce but eliminate caffeine altogether, and if so, how did it go, did it help, how long has it been, etc.

Muddy Waters and B.B. King may be syonymous with blues but if you are looking for a tight blues band that isn't so well known try the Butterfield Blues Band.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses communists?
by ozziepost inthat was the title of a tract i recall distributing in the 1950s.
it responded to the demonising of so many people in the mccarthy period.
the answer seemed obvious at the time - no, dubs are anything but communists.

I agree with GaryBuss, The JW's system is far more closely related to Facism than it is to Communism.

My parents started studying when I was 12. They were baptized when I was 15, I went through a rebellious phase, got alot of grief. By 17 I was tired of the grief got a little worried about life after high school since JW parents discourged higher education. So I decided to try it out embraced the life style to see what it was like. I took it and ran with it and became the congregation poster boy for prodigal son. Studied every book I could get my hands on.....(It occured to me later why they got a bit hesitant when I showed interest in reading some of the older books in the KH library). I got baptized and Auxillery pioneered and because there weren't many brothers around I was pretty much a MS without the official title although promised I'd get it soon it was just a matter of years of service you see. I thought for awhile this was how it was going to be......by 19 I was living on my own and started to think that maybe this wasn't what I wanted. I started hanging out with some of my old worldly friend again and began living a sort of double life for my families sake. I began to drift away started missing meetings just wasn't into it anymore. Before the year was over I wasn't going to live a life not my own for someone elses sake anymore. Not even for people that I loved. I packed up my things and moved away.....1000 miles away, and the JW chapter of my life was over just like that. I was fortunate in that my family eventually did see things my way and all left the JW's some four years later. Even now my relationship is not the same with them but at least it exists again.....They are still going through some serious deprogramming expecially my two younger brothers who have lost the ability to socialize on any level.

Four children....spent 85 bucks outfitting ....will probably spend another 85 before school starts and that's just getting the stuff on the list. How things have changed. If such things existed when I was a kid I never knew about it. I took a couple notebooks and pencils to school all of which must cost my folks two bucks....counting tax. Nowdays the lists have crayons and glue sticks and seven different colored folders and scissors, rulers, a box of kleenex etc etc. on top of the traditional pencil and paper. First year actually living in a house.....ouch those summer taxes are no joke. Almost makes one think apartment living wasn't so bad........well not that much...

What Things Did You Hate About Being A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus in.
anything in particular?

The thing I hated most about it was the losing touch with old "worldly" friends who were then considered "bad association". I had no real reason to distance myself from these people. They were good people, that's why I had chosen them as friends in the first place. It was this reason also that would lead to my departure, I couldn't be so closed minded about people viewing them as bad associates just because they were not JW's.

What is the "Unforgivable Sin?"
by mkr32208 ini know the pat answer is "grieving the holy spirit" but how does one do that?
i asked some elders who were attempting to meet with me but they seemed unsure... .
publicly!

I think that supporting ideas and theology that are in direct contrast with JW teachings publicly to JW's will get you publically shunned hence left alone. Keep a pack of cigarettes just for when they come around and when they do spark up lol. Or you could simply move 1000 miles away and not tell them you were going.....which is what I did, but then I was young with no commitments financial or otherwise.

Multitrack audio recording in the basement
by Twitch inone of my hobbies is recording original music with either of the two bands i play in.
i've got a roland si24 8 track interface/control surface and use sonar on the pc, various plugins (waves native bundle dx plugins for mixing and isotope ozone for mastering) .

Having neither band nor sophisticated equipment I hack out tracks with my voice and an acoustic using nothing more than TDK's digital mixmaster. I would like to know more about recording music as my primary focus has always been as a songwriter first. This thread attracted me because I had no idea there were so many people out there with such an interest in recording music.

I agree with Drew the yearly curve from total belief to total disbelief the only difference for me is the years on the curve.
