Thanks for that and just to be really thick - where do I find the exJW community - I'm new to finding ex JW on the internet.
Thanks for your 2c worth (or as we would say in England 2 pennies worth)
i design and create t shirts ( at the moment for breastfeeding support and cloth nappy wearing support - slightly o/t ) and on the line of bumper stickers, wondered if it was worth considering t shirts with similar slogans for support for ex jw etc.
what do people think as to whether it would be a viable idea.
the t shirts could have unique designs for support groups or ones for individuals to wear and they work out at about 10 each incl of p+p in uk (probably not a lot more to ship to the usa by surface mail).

Interested in people's opinions

have you ever noticed someone that just had to be a witness?
for example, you're on vacation in a very warm climate and you see 2 men dressed in suits....they must be witnesses.
or you go to a sporting event and you see a group of guys suddenly run for the nearest bathroom and the national anthem is just about to be played....they must be witnesses.
They are cleaning windows!! It seems all our local window cleaners are witnesses.

why are women in the watchtower society not allowed to give talks, pray in front of men and all the other crap that they keep them from doing?
i think this submission thing is out of control.
Because the man is the head of the house, like Christ is the head of the congregation, or something like that. There is a scripture somewehere that goes on about covering youir head, if female, when praying in front of your "head" eg, husband. Can't remember where it is now it is that long since.
I think the Apostle Paul had a slight problem with women, I'm sure he didn't like them, but there you go!! He only ever referred to older men etc as in positions of authority, we women mus be too "emotionally fragile" as I was once told to be able to stand in front of you men to give talks and of course don't forget Eve - she started all the trouble didn't she - so maybe it is a legacy from her.
Not sure all the technical points now, just remembered it annoyed me at the time, especially when listening to the most boring man you could imagine giving an hour long public talk and thinking I could do a lot better!! - Have since done a HND and degree with plenty of public speaking (on my own and head uncovered) and passed with flying colours, so I must have been OK
Interesting to hear other points of view
...that men are not allowed to grow beards?.
i don't know if this is true where you live, but where i used to live, it was against "policy" for brothers to have beards.
any man who did have one was looked down upon.
I'm no longer a JW, but it was the same here in England. It was explained along the lines and principal of women having to wear skirts or dresses and not trousers. (I dont think I owned a pair of trousers till I left!!)
It is how the "world" perceives the JW, beards are associated with the world as being "way out", with "hippies" etc and it doesn't give a good impression. Bit like wearing a suit to go knocking on doors and at KH, it appers smart and apparently beards don't give that impression.
Well that's what I remember anyway.
Any other thoughts appreciated
i don't get to check this board as often as i'd like, but i have noticed that there seems to be a huge number of new posters here.
every day that i get to check out a few posts, i notice new names.. so, just a polite request.
if you've just started posting here in the last few months, would you mind posting a quick note on this thread?
Michelle, 34 from Lancashire, England. Brought up a witness, pioneered after leaving school at 16 (weren't encouraged to stop on for further education as "no point as the systems is going down" - still waiting and now have a degree, obtained last year, in criminology. (Would be useful if I was still a witness especially for elders). Married at 17 to another witness who was 13 years older!! Had two children by him (God knows how!!), left him at age 25 due to abuse.
Then got disfellowshipped for leaving him and parents, sister, brother -in-law, neice and nephew (who I have never met), aunt, uncle, two cousins all no longer speak to me. Ironical really that father doesn't speak as he has been before more judicial committees than I've had hot dinners!! He was convicted of making obscene phone calls at one point, that is after me leaving home at 16 and 17 because of his abuse towards me. I left at 16 and was then "adviced" to return home on the basis, of "if you want to be forgiven of your sins you must forgive your father", so I did and he continued.
Remarried two years ago and now have a further 3 children.
That just about sums it up really in 3 paragraphs, long version would take a book!!
Nice to meet you all

Great - not far from me then, Darwen, near Blackburn. Used to go to the assembly hall in Northenden and to Maine Road.
