You Know It's Trouble When Your 13 year old son says....
by roybatty in"dad, you have to promise not to tell mom.
my kids and i were sitting down at dinner time when my son (with a big grin on his face) said that.
ok, ok, he got me and my 10 year old daughter (mom's little spy) to promise not to tell on him.

a practicing jw who frequents the board in order to report things to people.. well, here is to the person who is my father's "little bird".

lurkers: right now, if your're a JW and reading this, you can be "disciplined" in the congo for accessing this site. (a little fyi for some people that just don't get it) But I'll guess you will be repentant when the smelders take you "in the back" for a discussion of your addiction to the internet.

Remembering
by Granny Linda ini spoke with my elderly aunt yesterday about much of what i've read over this past week...catching up on the best of series...well, some of it anyhow; and her comments echoed much of what many former jw's have already spoken of.. she reminded me how many years ago when her one grandchild needed a blood transfusion and her daughter had called in a panic...my aunt simply told her to do what she felt for best for the child - not the church.
or, the sometimes humerous stories of field service - the dreaded thought that someone might actually answer their door.
my aunt releated how her own father had once asked if she wanted to "pioneer" and when my aunt told him, "no" my grandfather had the most shocked look on his face.

LOL!!!
I needed a good laugh today and you made it....Just the thought of the brother *** coming out and saying "what did you eat?" was enough for me to get a chortle....But then, when they opened the door.....even funnier.
The next funniest thing would be to see a 4 year old girl in the hall going "God, who farted? Somebody went poopy in thier pants"

Doodle:
You have more courage than I, dear one. ((hug)). It has been three years since my fathers passing, and I can remember vivdly the whole thing, just like you. However, I don't have the strength to let it go yet. He was also memorialized, and my mother insisted we have it at the KH, it wasn't even in the childrens hands. Loads of JW's, and during my dads funeral talk, the elder giving it decided to omit both me and my sisters name because we were df'd. Such selfish people will get what they deserve. Just remember it is out of your hands. I was glad you were able to have the recption at your house. There were all sorts of
roachesJWs crawling around after my dads memorial, and I felt so upset that I could not get up and read a poem or state how much I would miss him. Be strong.Melba

Is it true, or just familiar?
by Markfromcali inthis is a simple enough comparison, but i think it's a question worth asking with a thread of it's own, even if it's just for the sake of reminder.
whether it's believing the jws or anything, do we notice whether it is what's reasonable and makes sense, or is it just 'agreeable' because it's familiar and comfortable?
obviously the latter wouldn't be a wise choice.

In my psychology class, this week we are focusing on different learning styles and stimulus. I was going to start a thread about this, but you beat me to the punch!
Learned Helplessness is a passive resignation to aversive conditions learned by REPEATED EXPOSURE (eg, meetings five times a week :)) to aversive events that are inescapable and unavoidable.
Then, they talk about an experiment , and the psychologist reasoned that humans who have sufferered painful experiences they could neither avoid nor escape may also experience learned helplessness. Then, having experienced this helplessness, they may simply give up and react to disappointment in life by becoming inactive, withdrawn, and depressed.
Sound familiar?

What one thing would you like to vent?
by MelbaToast inmine is my mom.. ii dont know where to start and dont know where to end.
therapy sessions later, i am still at a loss.
i think that a parent is someone who loves and protects you from harm, doesnt shame or bribe you to make you into "a perfect pioneer".

LOL! But the garlic melba toast is awesome, shamus.
I too, am getting sick and tired of this hate-mongering against people in this board!
