What words and phrases do Brits and others see as 'American'?
by sonnyboy inas an american, i see words such as cheerio, blimey, bloody (when referring to something negative), loo, bugger, fag (cigarette), etc.
as chiefly british (i suppose they are).. what words and/or phrases do you consider to be chiefly american?
i'm honestly unaware of which words i use that may not be used in other english-speaking countries.

What does your name MEAN?
by RichieRich inwe all are identified by our names here on jwd.
some use their real names, and others pick a moniker that is their nickname or perhaps a few words from a song they like.. why did you pick your name?.
for instance,.

Melbatoast is a old nickname of mine from Jr. High, given to me by a dear friend that passed at an all too young age of 25. I've used it for screen names back to the days of bbs's and irc.
My real name is latin. Melanie means princess of darkness. Kinda morose, but its a real cool name.

needs some opinions & advices
by cookiegirlie ini've read some posts here and i could see that you were helping each other so i thought i could post & maybe get some answers :-).
i've known the jws since i was little my mom was going to the kingdom hall but then we stopped cos our life was too complicated and we didn't have time for that thought we kept studying at home with a jw as i got older ( teen years ) i hated the study book but never told my mom or anybody i didn't wanted to hurt my mom i love her so much!.
a few years ago i finally told my mom that i hated to read thoses books because i get so bored & that i wasn't interested in it , i do believe in jehovah's and jesus' existence thought but i so hate what the org ask us to do like don't dress like that , go to meetings .... first reaction i got from my mom was so you wanna die but then after a long talk she understood , no matter what i'll love her forever.

Aw, Cookie, Welcome! Its always great to have people come in and introduce themselves. As many have said before, those "looks" you get, believe me hun, I've got em before. We all have. It hurts too when people act so much superior than they are in real life. They call you a friend, but wont even carry on a conversation. Oh yeah, real loving, they are.
Just remember, Jesus in the bible. He talked to EVERYONE, no matter if they were prostitutes, tax collecters, the whole lot! Looking down at us, do you really think he would be happy with what those so-called Christians are doing? Remeber the golden rule: Do unto others as you would want done to you. Don't give them no mind. You have real truth in your heart...and its nothing that those people can give or take away.

by Es inwhat would you do if you knew someone had no respect for you and only associates with you coz they have to????
for months i couldnt understand why this particular person said things to me and acted a certain way to me and it only just hit me this weekend that this person actually just doesnt respect me, doesnt respect my feelings, my thoughts nothing.
and only associates with me coz she has to.

Sounds like a good idea to me, you only need positive people in your life, the other ones will just bring you down. You have answered you own question . I feel like if they dont want to be my friend, i am not going to force them to.

When I was a kid, I didn't want to be a JW.
by kwintestal ini'm thinking back to my childhood here, and remembering hanging out with my jw friends.
my buddies and i, when we were 9, 10 years old knew that we wouldn't stay jws.
we hated the restrictions that were put on us and hated being different.

Hated being a JW as a kid. Wanted sooo bad to be in the classroom with the others.
I spent many hours in the library, was a big nerd who read books to take me away from everything.
I had told my mom since I was 13, I'm not staying here (She moved us from Pontiac, MI to Rural WV, talk about culture shock!)
I wish I could go back and say to my teachers "But I want to stay for the valentines!" I always got a few, anyways :)
