Witnesses are NOT great folks. In my opinion the majority of them PRETEND to be great whilst under the delusion that the "new personality" will make them that way. When in reality they betray their god-given individuality and hide behind a shitty false veneer.

Witnesses Are Great Folks
by FrankRaven ini know i'll get a lot of flack from this, but witnesses are good folks.and your average witness is concerned about you,non-witness.i've been there and i almost became one.my ex did become one.
it's not what they are taught by the watchtower,it's how one is taught.if one was what a witness was taught there wouldn't be any witnesses.it's how one is taught.most of the witnesses always told me,if you have any questions there's a book by the society that will answer your question.
(s)the watchtower is persistent.well so was i.the more books i read that the watchtower wrote, the more questions i had.and i,always, made sure i stayed on the topic.they never did.they always avoided my questions.and they are real good at that.

Memorable Prayers meetings / assemblies???
by invisible inany outstanding prayers that you can remember / recall?.
we had one brother here who was renowned for his very long prayers, sometimes running to as much as 15 minutes in length.
congregational members would have to leave halfway through to catch taxi's etc, he was a dear old soul though, in his younger days before he kicked the bucket, he was a wheelwright, probaly one of the last of his particular craft, repairing horse drawn carriages.. another brother at the convention was known for the shortest prayer, he just said thankyou 3 times and that was it.. once we had the co visiting, george hilton his name was, cheerful old sod from yorkshire, it was the aux pio and reg pio meeting.

OH NO.............THE SONGS...................I remember a particular elder that would always ask the congregation to sing the closing song in a "rousing manner". His favourite number was always introduced as a beautiful melody, guess what it was?...........LAZARUS!!!!!!!!!!!! "the resurrection joy"!!!!!!!!!

I remember some bloke from bethel giving a talk at one of the district assemblies who had an awful way of littering his talks with phrases like......"was it not"..."did it not"...... etc. It was difficult not to start counting how often he did this. Anyway, I can't remember his name or the points he made!
An elderly brother in my old cong who was known to ramble a lot in his prayers once thanked jehovah for the spaceships??????????????
An elder from the same cong was renowned for asking forgiveness for "our wrongdoings and shortcomings"
Embarrasing moments when another elderly git who loved his grub would always say thank you for the food and the hands that prepared it, and could never think of anything else to say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yes and an elder would always pray for jehovahs "blessing on our efforts" about fifteen times in one prayer!

FADE-AWAYS?
by bay64me inheard through the grapevine the other day that another member of my old congregation had decided they were not going to any more meetings.
this seems to be happening a lot lately.
i was wondering if this is a bit of a trend of late?

I was wondering if this is a bit of a trend of late? And if so, will the organisation be clamping down on fade- aways? Any thoughts?

THANK GOD THE PRESS NEVER GOT HOLD OF IT!
by bay64me ini used to pioneer with a lady that was in her fifty's, brought up in the 'truth' and one of her boasts was that through the efforts of her mother, over a hundred people had been brought in.
over a period of time she revealed many things that had gone on within the organisation one of them being a case of sexual abuse by a special pioneer that had been sent to the area.
his victims were the young boys of a lady that was kind enough to give him a room to stay.

A Plea For Responsible Reporting
by hillary_step inmany hundreds of people read this site who are not subscribed, and i would suspect that the vast majority are jw's looking for answers to an internal turmoil that they may be living with.. the information posted on this board does get read and then passed among many congregations of jw's.
this information is a powerful force and is a wonderful thing for those who are seeking to be informed, and a not so wonderful thing to those in brooklyn who are seeking to harness the boundaries of knowledge.. given this scenario, and how much credibility can be lost by xjw's who perpetuate gossip and innuendo, can we check our sources and facts very carefully before we post information to this board.
there is no particular nobility in being first with news about some aspect of wts life.

And there was me thinking that this board was here for the likes of me, a (seemingly) typical, (almost) exjw that for the first time in years has found a place and the courage to be able to speak out about the many things that i have struggled with because of the organisations crappy teachings! I was never under the impression that this boards' purpose was for lurking jws, (that shouldn't be here anyway) But correct me if i'm wrong!

I used to pioneer with a lady that was in her fifty's, brought up in the 'truth' and one of her boasts was that through the efforts of her mother, over a hundred people had been brought in. Over a period of time she revealed many things that had gone on within the organisation one of them being a case of sexual abuse by a special pioneer that had been sent to the area. His victims were the young boys of a lady that was kind enough to give him a room to stay. During the course of his stay, he added many locks and bolts to the door of his room. Just how he was found out was not divulged to me, but he was caught and arrested by the police and infact went on to serve a prison term. Yet on the many occasions that she spoke of this matter, she would always add how pleased she was that it had been kept out of the newspapers! I think she was under the impression that Jehovah had somehow divinely protected the congregation from any scandal and her main concern appeared to be how the 'preaching work' would have been affected had the story got out! Since i've dared to use the internet, I realise just how common a problem this is, and that the attitude of the average jw seems to be more concerned as to how they appear to the outside world rather than where it should be ie with the victims and the bringing to justice of these vile and evil men.
