Slim - if Argentina had the military might to take the Falklands there would be no diplomatic posturing from them they'd just do it. If the US did not support the British then we would be forced to concede the Islands. This is how it all works when it comes to military might. However, Britian is militarily stronger than Argentina so this has to be done diplomatically. Britain gains nothing from sellings it's people or it's resources or it's pride to Argentina. Argentina offers nothing but poor governance, political ineptitude, theft of resources and displacement of the population. Argentina are too weak to press their claims by force and have too weak a legal claim to push for it diplomatically. So it's stunts and hand waving.

Nomad - when you say the British are you saying the soldiers or the Falklanders? Are you suggesting depopulation of the Island? That seems an odd approach.

It's like a revelation. I have heard it so many times and I never made the connection, never processed it. The universe just clicked into place. A heavenly choir is singing.

A real cause of demon possession
by Terry inhttp://www.aol.com/video/the-cancer-that-causes-you-to-become-possessed/517395896/?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl28|sec1_lnk3%26plid%3d171264.
notice from her comments that this woman is a very well-indoctrinated christian.
in her world view this is as close to demon possession.

Which philosophy would you personally value the highest and why?
by Qcmbr inthinking about the number of atheist v ag/tec/fhn/sab threads (hehe - i'm only yanking your chains!
) and i thought i should make an effort to look at and discuss the rest of the rainbow.
atheism does not define my influencing primary worldview though you'd be hard pressed to see that from my posts.. i'd be interested in what philosphy , idea, rule(s) most influence you and why - why do you feel they are superior, what do they make you value more or less , what would you be without your philosophy.

The philosophy that most appeals to me and I would like to see applied more widely is Aesthetics. The philosophy of beauty.
The application of beauty is the crown of all human endeavour. When a job is done with beauty it transcends its functional form and becomes much more than its simple purpose.
Art does not stumble with words, it defines no boundaries within which it requires understanding and it evokes reactions in all who perceive it but is not encumbered by a functional failure when reactions or perceptions differ wildly.
Every other discipline, every other endeavour, every other achievement of man is immeasurably improved , made more meaningful and melds emotion with perception with experience more perfectly when beauty is its core aim. It is possible to live a life of beauty which will be moral, serene, magnificent, authentic and adaptive or to live a life of ugliness , carelessness, pandering and fear. Beauty has no creed and it is owned by no-one, it requires no group behaviour and lists no moral absolutes. It is thought beyond words, it is the crucible of new ideas and it is the memory of past cultures. It is the one common denominator that links all mankind and all creeds and all beliefs. Beauty and art can continue the dialogue when the words have failed.
With art everyone can wear a crown.

OOo DT - I like this. I don't quite know what it means - that no conceptual model is fully wrong if it can be applied to at least one scenario and that no model is fully right if it either doesn't apply to at least one scenario or a more fully descriptive model exists for that which is observed? Nice.
