by EntirelyPossible inthoughts?
a woman named amanda started hearing a voiced telling them that a comet was going to destroy the earth.
they bought a house in the north carolina mountains to prepare, thinking the voice belongs to the dead former owner of the house.

Your personal god AG sounds no warning, gives no advice, has no plan, is incapable of helping and has no power. Nothing you say will alter that fundamental truth. My god failed the information test and so does yours.

I hold my 'god' to a higher standard than believers hold theirs to when it comes to the information and truth. I used to give mine a pass on so many things and argue that I was only being given parable quality information as part of a divine plan for me ( if god needed me fairly ignorant and uneducated regarding the future so be it ) . Atheism for me equates to raising my information standard to that of basic human science and my god fails utterly. I have yet to find anyone else's god able to rise above parable bs yet either. The 'gods' of all cultures always tell us childish boo stories about death and end time destruction and are forever warning us of doom which never comes and then the culture ends and those gods disappear. Xianity has had its day thankfully and is dying, Jehovah and his rather sad tales of Armageddon will pass into the night to take his place with Ra , Zeus and Voldemort.
A decent , caring god would tell you and prepare to help unlike bible god who seems to enjoy causing death via various grisly means from bears to global genocidal floods.

A guy goes into the bar and sits down and orders a drink. Other than the bartender, there's no one else in the place. All of a sudden he hears a voice that says, "Nice suit." He looks around and doesn't see anyone and the bartender looks busy washing some glasses. A little while later the same voice says, "Nice Tie." The guy looks around again and doesn't see anyone. He finally asks the bartender if he just said something.
"No," replied the bartender, "it wasn't me. It was probably the peanuts though. They're complimentary. -

Incident with the Jehovah's Witness babysitter...
by garyneal inmy youngest daughter is so cute, she loves singing and loves being festive.
when i put up the tree, she loved saying, "it's christmas, it's pretty...." her babysitter, a witness from my wife's hall, lives next door to a neighbor who put up decorations in the yard like i did in front of our apartment.
when we leave her house, she would run next door to look at the "christmas" as she would say, "look, the christmas.

It is the job of a baby sitter to give developmental feedback if they are long term ("Sally is reading well") or to indicate issues of concern ("Jack banged his head") but not to impose religious standards. That she has reported back to you is good and positive (you want people who will give you info) and you shoul dprobably just ignore the topic for now and just keepan eye on whether this extends to inculcating the children with watchtower children products (my mother likes getting my non-believing kids books on bible stories - grrr.)
Just ignore it, let your kids experience life, let them know they are accepted and validated and what your parental boundaries are. As long as they see you as the alpha figures you are fine.
Good babysitters are worth their weight in gold.

Nothing can ever be known exactly but we can make probability arguments. Some events ( like the likelihood of the sun rising tomorrow ) may have probabilities so high that we can operate without need to modify our behaviour in case it doesn't occur while others ( " I am coming soon" ) normally represent the other end of the scale.
Messages attributed to supernatural communication or non-humans have only the likelihood of being useful or right in conjunction with how much information the medium has available (a message from a Popoffian healer regarding your illness may be factually correct but one regarding information on heaven will be as likely as flying unicorns, possible but with a vanishingly small probability.)
The probability that anyone on this forum is receiving messages from a non cranial source are safe enough to bet your life against, the information quality can be simply checked against current knowledge and anything superfluous is found (ie this scripture has a secret meaning that I'm sharing with you or it lets you know I am the Messiah) it should be disregarded as imagination; based on probabilities and the likelihood of them actually communicating with invisible/supernatural beings.
Powerful thing this imagination of ours, makes fools of many.

NOAHS BIBLICAL FLOOD ACTUALLY HAPPENED, SAYS FAMED ARCHEOLOGIST WHO FOUND THE TITANIC
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inhttp://www.theblaze.com/stories/2012/12/11/noahs-biblical-flood-actually-happened-says-famed-archeologist-who-found-the-titanic/ .
"the story of noah's ark and its associated flood continues to be retold to children and studied by theologians, alike.
while some dismiss it as a mere fable, others believe wholeheartedly that the event literally unfolded, with a massive down-pouring of water ravaging the earth at god's command.

AA why would a god who can do anything bother with a flood. If I could simply kill someone with a thought why would I bother with a ridiculously destructive and pointless natural event . Some people see the boxing day tsunami as an act of god. What is evident is that where religious thought is there will be a reimagining of natural events as voodoo magic. Floods occur all the time. Any one could have been a cataclysm for an imagined global flood with magic causes.

Birthdays & Christmas
by Rattigan350 inwhat is the deal with people criticizing jws because they don't celebrate birthdays or christmas?.
it is as if when someone is born, from a baby, to a child, teen, adult; that one has a responsiblity to celebrate christmas (and i thought it was a free country); and others have a responsiblity to celebrate others' anniversary of one's birth.. i don't get the criticisms as if celebrating either is a great thing and the not celebrating is a bad thing.. data on star trek said that he does not understand why people celebrate their birthdays - a day one can not possibly remember.. what are you actually celebrating?
the fact that you made it another year?

I criticise JWs for it because it is a fundamental part of their underlying ethos. Deny pleasure and replace with fearful devotion. Taking small, normally happy parties and times of celebration , pauses in the daily routine of survival if you will, and replacing them with an anti social, avoid reminding people that they are special and individual and are part of a loving circle of friends and family, attitude and calling that righteous is simply stupid and deserves all the criticism that can be heaped on it. No wonder the JWs I knew at school were loners and found it difficult to participate in group learning. Poor kids.

What's fascinating to me is how individuals claim to be getting revelation from a divine source but almost invariably already have a good chunk of their doctrine and phraseology lifted from their preceding religion. Now if a xian prophet suddenly started quoting from the books of other religions as revealed truth that would at least be more novel. When people rebel against their religion thinking they can do it better they seem to still use the carcass of their former belief. Disgruntled Xians remain xian and just swop a few doctrines around, disgruntled Mormons hark back to earlier versions of doctrine , ex-JWs still talk in terms of Jah and 'Great Crowds' betraying their roots. If the JWs were genuinely as wrong as the Mormons as the Baptists as the Catholics yadda yadda you should find a wholesale rejection of their buzzwords ( especially pet names for god) and their prized topics methinks because these areas of focus were made up by a supposed false religion.
