  My father fought in the war as well - he risked his life over the political posturing of an inept administration, mistakes that are being repeated again. There is a logical reason why we needed those Islands, it is because they are our people. They are not yours.

  I hope you cleared some mines when you went there. I've been to Ireland but I don't think that the Uk has a right to demand it because it happens to be close by. As for imperialism - grow up.

  JWs have structure, hope, a detailed plan, answers to the whys and hows, clear definitions of morally gray areas and above all a social group of relatively like minded people generally striving to be better people. Although we do focus upon the destructive and illogical endpoints I think we there are some good benefits to the group. While I'll never get back my years wasted in mormonism I still loved a great deal of the experiences and I definitely miss the sense of purpose, unity and surety. For some people in really destrcutive cycles (depression, addiction or lonliness for example) joining a religious organisation can be a life saver and be a net positive gain. imo.

  ... how truly great this place is.. i have not been on many forums, but i think this one is unique and strong in a very important way.

  it is of course a support group for those exiting the wts, or trying to deal with remaining within it, first and foremost.

  but the awesome thing about this place is how it welcomes everyone.

I am very disturbed by your assumption that one man caused death and one man will be solving it ironically through death. You can't use the trojan horse of friendly civility to insert a barbaric idea that some of us have rejected as distasteful and obscene.

  Any religion you can't leave is a cult. Any religion that removes your individuality is a cult. If you feel the need to be a part of a cult, join the Mormons, at least they are a bit more mainstream and I bet you can keep the facial hair.

  Speaking of short skirts on the one hand and long hair and beards on the other, we should note that the reasons for these two requirements are different. Skirt lengths for women are a function of modesty. The ban on long hair and beards , on the other hand, is a question of symbolism and propriety.   If enough JWs pushed for a doctrinal change it would occur. I think we underestimate the power of the group.

  - two hours ago I was searching for pretty flower pictures to post before I shook myself and had a stern chat about macho boundaries that I've agreed with my internal self haha. Grrr.
