Is evolution a fact or theory?
by sleepy inis evolution a fact or a theory?.
i suppose it depends on what you mean.. evolution in the sense of change from one generation to the next seams to be fact.. is well observed that offspring from a given creature will differ from the parent in different ways and thus after many generation can come to be quite different.. also that the genes of a creature can be affected by radiation from the sun and be alter in a novel way producing new and unique features in its offspring ( as long as the mutation is in the sperm or the egg).. that we came about via changes in the genes that eventually created a very different creature than that existed many generations ago , is that a fact?.
this requires that not only that there are changes between generation but also that these changes could be directed by different environments to such a degree that only certain specialised features could survive and reproduce offspring whilst other creatures have died out and only remain in fossilised form.. what evidence is there that such environments can and have existed?

Micro evolution is fact, macro evolution is a theory, but a damned good one. Creationsism is a nice cute fantasy. :)

Tornado almost got me yesterday :(
by bboyneko ingeez, this is friggin maryland, we never get tornados..anyway at around 5:30pm (quittin time at work) i got notified that a tornado had touched down in college park, (my college, university of maryland college park) and had killed 2 people already and was headed directly in our path, it would arrive in like 10 minutes.. i went outside and it was black..the funny thing was you could see very clearly where the black ended and see clear sky right after that border.
the clouds where movin fast.
i talked to saffron online and told her to grab the kitty cats and head for a basement.

just another religion
by teejay inpatriotism is a religion just like every other religion.
either you believie it and live it or you don't.. i see people waving the flag at sporting events, hear them mouthing the words, "we're all one nation, blah, blah, blah" but then they go out and flip one another off in the parking lot.
just like people at the kingdom hall who supposedly love jehovah (or jesus or allah) and after the meeting is over, they go right back to the way they were.. love of country is no more influential than love of god.

one more point, maybe anyone in the marines can verify this..when evacuating or retreating, it is VERY important, maybe even just as important and bringing wounded buddie with you, to take down the american flag from whicever building you evacuate, especially an embassy, and take it with you.

Geez, this is friggin Maryland, we NEVER get tornados..anyway at around 5:30pm (quittin time at work) I got notified that a tornado had touched down in College Park, (my college, University of maryland college park) and had killed 2 people already and was headed directly in our path, it would arrive in like 10 minutes.
I went outside and it was BLACK..the funny thing was you could see very clearly where the black ended and see clear sky right after that border. The clouds where movin FAST. I talked to Saffron online and told her to grab the kitty cats and head for a basement. I decided it was safer to leave work and go home than stay at work, since the tornado was headed right for me from the south, and my home is to the north. Stupid weather forcasters on the radio said at first it was just an uncofirmed rumor..turns out it was marylands worst storm in over 75 years
As i leave it starts POURING rain very very hard. I get home like 20 minutes later and Saffron has the kitty cats locked in the bathroom and the phone and my adrress book and food all ready in case we had to wait it out. I told her to crack open windows since the air pressure outside gets very low during a tornado and the difference in the indoor and outdoor pressure causes windows to explode.
I called back work and they said it touched down in the neighborhood directly behind my office..funny thing is directly in front of my office many of the terrorists were staying at a motel there, you can see the motel out the window..we seem to attract bad karma. So Im glad i went home.
The tornado didnt reach apartment but it was a very scary ride home with the wind so loud it sounded like a train.
The two people killed were sisters, they had just left their dad's house. Witnesses say their car was over 75 feet in the air before it was sent slamming into a tree :(

Patriotism is indeed a religion. Want proof? Try burning an american flag anywhere near a police officer. Whoops! off to jail you go. Now, in a country of 'free speech' and 'freedom' why is it illegal to burn a flag? Could it be because it is....sacred?
Sacred? Patriotism is just a word to define the unity of a countries people right? Nope. In God we trust indeed.

I'm down with the original hip hopper's b4 lyrics, when it was break drancers, loud music in the parks, street fashion, etc
That's still around, hip-hop's breakdancers never went away, the 4 elements of hip-hop, Graffiti writin, mcing, djing and bboying are still valid and around. We still breakdance in public parks with loud music blaring, still break to the old skool and the new.
that's true hophop

Meteor Strike!
by toddy inrecently we have seen the devastating effects just two planes can cause within a built up area, imagine what the effects would be if a meteor struck this planet.. my question is,are we taking this threat seriously,is enough money being put into discovering and tracking these meteors?

I took a class on meteor/asteroid collisions and extraterrestial material impacting earth and planetary bodies, so yeah, we are screwed. A study of the earth's surface reveals that we have been BOMBAREDED for millions of years, and only a few of the impact craters remains, mostly in arid, dry areas where natural erosion forces fail to destroy it.
You should read up on 'Nemesis' or 'Death Star' theory on masse xtinction. The earth sees a mass extinction approximaltey every 26 million years, the most devastating of which killed 90% of all life on earth at the time. The theory states that there is a hidden large object whos orbit attracts comets towards earth every 26 million years. It's unproven and controversial, but it is highly odd that we see these mass extinctions like clockwork.
Each time, life has survived and then thrived, but who knows if earth will ever be hit by something so big that all life is comnpletley wiped out. Oh well, i am off to eat a bic mac..see ya!
