UN involvement announced at Assembly?
by Simon ini heard from someone that the wts was going to or had already announced something about the un involvement at an assembly.
anyone else heard of this or is it a local thing ?.
i would guess they may have only done this because of the coverage in the uk national newspaper which they know they have to counter.

by scumgrief ini am an active jw and was raised as one.
i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

Your obsession with the whole "____ or die" is obviosly the result of something that happened to you. I have never in any assembly or meeting I've been to been told that. Or even had that hinted to me.
Really? Not even hinted at?
Hmmmmm...yeah you are right there is no hints there. No join us or this will happen to you even insinuated.Wow..whats that in the background? Death? Chaos? Yup. No hints here either though. No veiled threats of join us or this will happen to you.
Look! Even puppies get killed.
Hmm..yeah I keep looking but I still see no veiled threats of join us or die. Never mind guess I was wrong.-Dan

The Bristol assembly hall scandel
by sleepy inis there anyone from the area who remmbers the story of the 30,000 spent on trees for the vist of a gb memmber.. i dont know the exact story as it is now about 7 or 8 years ago but i heard it from several people that worked on the hall.. apparently a gb memmber was to come to britian to dedicate the hall (i cant remmember which one).. the brothers in charge wanted the hall to look nice for his vist.but the land around was yet to be landscaped.. so brothers enquired as to the viability of planting some trees but were informed that it was the wrong time of year and they would die.. the cost of the trees was around the region of 30,000.plus the amount of free labour from the brothers in planting them.. anyway the big bosses of the scheme decided to ignore the professional advice and planted them anyway.. they all died.. 30.000 pounds of money from old ladies, pioneers and little children as well as ordinary publishers went down the drain for the gb's visit.. nice to know they used our money wisely.

Wait a second, that sounds like an urban legend or a real peace of history borrowed from somewhere...I remember reading about a soviet official who visited a factory, loved the greenery so the soviet army had them plant green trees even though it was the wrong time of year along a road that stretched from the landing pad to the site of inspection. The trees all died so they ended up painting them green. This was during world war II or so...I will research it and find out. It looks like more than one important offical gets his way with trees.

If evolution is true ?
by D wiltshire inif evolution is true and god doesnt exist, and all matter always existed, and life keeps adapting and getting more and more advanced, conquering all problems set before its existence.. then life should have already filled the entire universe and advanced to the point of never dying.. am i being presumptuous?.
.
if someone lived a trillion x longer than you, and had a billion x more reasoning ability would he come to the same conclusions as you?.

in 300 years or so, the majority of the population of Africa could be immune to AIDS. Such is the beauty/horror of evolution. Evolutions needs death and usually pretty nastys deaths to work. Death is the tool by which the errors are stamped out and only the prime cuts get to pass on genes.

Life is a very rare thing, as far as we have observed. Therefore, there is very little of it in the galaxy. The universe if filled mostly with vacuum and dust and gases.
Also, the vacuum of space is inhospitable to life. It seems to only exsists on planets with some form of water and a relativley stable weather pattern, and of course, atomsphere.

Shunning Or Refusing Blood - Which Is Worse?
by Englishman inmost persons who die through lack of blood have made that choice for themselves.
the consequences of such a course of action (often death) generally have an effect which is limited primarily to the individual who is refusing treatment.. however, the victim of a decision to shun has no input into that decision.
therefore the 'victim' of shunning is a helpless recipient of that policy.

you'd have a hard time proving that shunning is worse than death in a court of law.

Congrats..the process of leaving is so painful it almost feels wrong to have them leave. Like getting someone off heroin, they go thru the worst pains eimaginable in withdrawl. But like I said, feels almost wrong. :) Congrats again..
