In Search of... Good Parenting Tips

calling all parents who raised children according to borg guidelines or anyone who was raised that way him- or her-self and, thus, is aware of the damage often thereby done.... i was raised as a 4th generation jw, drew away at least a decade ago, and am now the mother of a wonderful 3 year old girl.

i am looking for some words of wisdom to keep in mind as i do my best to raise her in a sane and loving manner.. any ideas on positive things to keep in mind?

and what about negative things to watch out for (you know, those nasty things we don't even realize are still part of our psyche until they jump out and scream "boo!")?.

As a 3rd generation freak raised in the side show....I use one tool. I love my child without condition. He knows he is first and foremost in my life. No guilt and no questions.

Dating a JW when you are not

i am dating a man who is a jw and i am not.

i attend a nondenominational church.

i found out from a mutual friend of ours, two months after my boyfriend and i had met, that he was a jw.

My brother is married to a non-JW. He has faded but still holds a lot near and dear. She goes to her parents for X-mas and birthdays. They have a child who is being raised without Christmas in their home but my sis-in-law takes her to her grandparents who celebrate for them. I think it is a house divided. One way or another someone gets hurt.

The birthday thing for me is weird. Since I have never celebrated my birthday as a child it doesn't really faze me now when someone forgets. My husband NEVER forgets and loves birthdays. However...my childs birthday to me is one of the greatest days of my life and I defy anyone tell me to not celebrate his birth.

Run away and don't look back. Children are hard enough to raise in a united household. But that is just my humble opinion.

I have been thinking about the past more and more since finding this website. I can recall working in the cornfields one summer and a Pentacostal girl was also working. You could obviously tell her faith because she was wearing a skirt out in the field. Long hair no jewlery ect... Anyway I can remember feeling this overwhelming need to blow holes in her faith. Here was my chance to "witness" and tell her how wrong her faith was.I cornered her basically and brought up the scriptures. She was totally off guard and the poor thing was just trying to earn some money. Thinking about what an outcast I used to feel like in regards to "normal" kids....how she must have felt showing up in a skirt to work in nasty dirty hot conditions. I went home that night and told my mom what a great job I had done. I told mom how she said modesty was why she wore a skirt and mom's response was .. well ask her how modest she thinks she is in the middle of a corn field in a skirt.

Of course I went back the next day and said this horrible thing to her. I am so ashamed of myself for this particular event. How bad I must have made this girl feel. I suppose it was my chance to poke holes at the different girl and make myself feel superior. What a joke and in the end...how badly I must have made the witness' really look for being such an ass.

I know being raised this way made me socially retarded. I regret so many stupid things said and done. Anyone else have a similar experience?

The newest article on infertility

hey out there, back in the days when my wife and i was trying to have kids, we were worried and it took 1 1/2 years to conceive.. .

this latest wt or awake, (since right now i'm pissed): does nothing but bring out negative sides to every issue of fertility (or adoption) possibilities!.

i'm mad as heck!

Well I have to admit we are close to 100k at this point with 4 IVF's and 6 IUI's. We have great insurance so we have not been out of pocket much. There are currently 4 states that require insurance companies to pay for infertility treatments.

They are off the mark on amounts because 7 IVF's would be hugely expensive even with insurance. Well over 100k. Also...one would have to have a doctor that was not credible. RE's who are worth a damn would never ever do 7 IVF's on a woman over 42. They told us at our beginning appointments that donor eggs were our best bets at age 35.

I am in my late 30's and there are so many midagating factors to infertility that to label even two women the same is too many. Again I digress...I know too much. What works for one doesn't work for another. It is one of the most painful things I have ever had to go thru emotionally. Maybe they are jealous now that it's not helpful elders making my life a living hell. It also requires one to read and be knowledgable. It also requires a lot of me physically. They would argue that would/should be time spent in service.

They can kiss my ass.

Witnesses do gamble

we all know that witnesses say that they don't gamble, but do they?

i don't mean gambling with lotteries, i mean gambling with life.. many witnesses attend meetings and follow the jw way of life, not because they like it, but because they are afraid of dying at armageddon, so they gamble with their current life, or take a chance, and follow the group, just incase they would win eternal life with the witnesses.

some give away nice life oportunities, marriage, good jobs etc, and gamble all that away, for possibly a better prize..

I had an elder...who I really do like...say well you can gamble but only once. Otherwise it's a habit. It made me laugh. He is such a down to earth pleasant man. Still enjoy him to this day when I see him in public.

It is insulting at the highest level to me. I am in the throes of this so I suppose I am biased. They have no clue as to what they speak. Science is an ever changing thing and what was not even considered possible 10 yrs ago is now the norm with infertility. It's a process that changes daily.

They can f**k off as far as I am concerned. Until they want to educate themselves or stand in my shoes.

I am no longer considering my sister. I am too afraid she wouldn't be able to let go and try and witness to my child.

It's heartbreaking and the WTS has no idea however I am not longer being controlled by them. I could SCREAM reading that article because members will take it to heart and preach about what they do not know. Hell even the Catholic church doesn't have a problem with it.

Soooo lucky

my mother called and is in town brown nosing with the co's wife.

wants to "stop by and visit" with me this afternoon.

Well I made my self unavailable. Mom was fine with it in the end. I was just not up for a fake afternoon. It takes more out of me then I can even begin to deliver.

She knows I don't go but it forces me to be polite. It's over and now I have another year off.
