i have not been on this site for a while becausei have been working so how have people been on this site?.

your alias made me smile. years ago my son and I were watching bram stokers dracula and when that young fellow was reading (while dracula was narrating) the welcome letter from dracula it was signed, "D"...since then every once in a while I ask him to do an impersonation (it happens) we look at each other and do our dracula impersonation together...just "D" with an accent...then we laugh and laugh...(ok, I laugh and laugh...he looks at me with an uncomfortable smile)

anyway...nice to see you again.

Are the Jews meek?

i thought these were pretty surprising comments in the consolation magazine in 1946, just a few months after the full horrors of the holocaust emerged, under the heading "are the jews meek?":.

"there is no evidence in the scriptures that the jews as a people are meek.

on the contrary, jehovah's witnesses only find it stated in the bible that the jews are "stiff-necked and hard-hearted", but when they call at their homes with the message of god's kingdom they witness the same characteristics.

I Believe Catholicism And Its Trappings Are Silly, Strange & Weird!!!

my italian friend loves going to the "feasts" that occur in italy, boston or nyc.

these feasts feature a "saint" with dollar bills pinned around her and they parade the saint in a long procession and chant "viva (whomever)".

they are quite serious about this and are proud to talk about the past generations of observers who appreciated the events.

so... i am coming to the conclusion that pretty much all of the doctrinal stuff that i have believed for 25/30 years is built on a house of cards and it's about to come crashing down.

question is what do i replace it with?.

my intellectual head says that that whole thing is junk and there is almost certainly no god at all.

dear King Solomon...

let's place the entire decision to have christianity as the dominant state religion in emperor constantine's lap. he was worshiped as a god, he could have a "toga party" evey day of the week, he had slaves, he could do ANYTHING he wanted to do...ANYWHERE. but he gave this all up so that he could have slaves in good conscience?...

kinda sounds like GOD had a lot of influence on his life, imo.

I think that the bible has eluded to the reason behind the need for war. God didn't want to have His people completely corrupted by foreign practices in that He wanted to bring His Son into the world at a later date and be able to "show" in real time how His mission of sacrifice and forgiveness of sins was a reality of that which was foreshadowed in the law and sacrificial system. it is a given that if you want something to remain you have to take measure to preserve it...those are the measures that God took to preserve His "message" from generation to generation.

the fact that there is slavery in the bible and Jesus didn't speak against it seems to be a big problem with those who denounce the notion of God...the fact is that slavery was acceptable in most nations up until a couple of hundred years ago...the point is that the old testament laws might have had a more benevolent spirit towards slaves than the surrounding nations...and Jesus might have taught the church that they ought to continue the practice of benevolence as all, slave and free were actually equal in Gods eyes. this teaching WAS in opposition to the practice of the day where slaves, women and children were accounted as property with little worth...(I've read that one thing that brought the ire of the romans toward the christians is their practice of bringing home or adopting babies that had been left to die by the road or in a field because they were unwanted)...(So, if you can find information about other nations practices in order to compare them then you might not be so quick to judge israel...as their reasons are not ones that would be considered cultural and or personal ambition but "religious"...an expression of the Holiness of God so to speak)

Jesus commissioned His followers to preach all that He had taught them which does include the tenents of the faith which come from judaism...He did not tell His followers to learn and have an answer for every question that arises from the study of ancient texts...He did, however, set aside teachers who have made it their lifes work to study and have an answer or explaination for the questions that arise.

you did say: "you're trying to sell Jesus to a bunch of ex-Jesus salesmen"...you would be implying that these "knew their product".

...and that is why James Brown said:"You guys were not Jesus salesmen. Jehovahs witnesses dont believe Jesus is God."

though you may have thought that you knew all about Jesus because you were a JW, I contend that you didn't know Him at all because the very doctrines that the JW's expouse deny the fullness of His "being"...and those same doctrines also keep witnesses from seeing that they are called into the fullness of His salvation. by designing a false two classes doctrine the witnesses are cut off from incorporating all that Jesus taught into their "faith" AND hope in Him.

p.s. there are plenty of people in and out of prison who have had life changing experiences...and it isn't a question of subjective experience per se, as others have been witness to that "life" changing...and glorify God because of it. you can easily dismiss the testimony of millions and millions of people because you didn't perceive that you had an encounter...THAT seems more like subjective experience

I hope that the WT GB will turn their hearts to Jesus so that the Holy Spirit would be able to convict them of their error.

The GB needs to teach the witnesses about Jesus just like philip did with the ethiopian eunich and they must invite the witnesses to individually and publicly enter into the covenant with Jesus Christ or they will be bloodguilty at the judgement seat of Christ.

"Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you." john 14:23-26

A scary contrast I've been seeing in the bible

I believe that when the bible speaks of the earth being destroyed by fire that phraise can be explained by the "word" of Jesus.(matthew 3:11-12, 12:49, 2 thess 1:6-10) scripture indicates that in the end of time that His words would judge "the world".(john 12:48)

Have you heard the expression "fire and brimstone preacher"?...that is someone who preaches the whole council of God, including the parts about sin and judgement.

It is entirely possible that the malachi reference to elijah at the end of time is referring to him speaking the words of God (by the Spirit and power of God)in a "fire and brimstone" kind of way...which would be in keeping with certain elements of his character in the OT . (mal 3:2-3, 4:1)

how satan mimics the fire from heaven can be two fold...in speaking the word but misleading the masses by not declaring the whole council of God so that the word is without effect and therefore corrupted for the intended use (the Holy Spirit convicts of sin and judgement). Since satan is also active in the physical world he can and will use "physical" means as well as corrupting the "spiritual"...mankind should expect a manifestation in the physical realm in the form of "calling fire down from heaven"...however that fire is not the word of God but "firepower"...

The middle east conflict has prepared the physical battleground...and jerusalem is the hot spot. imo. (rev 11:7-10)...there are times in the bible that the spiritual is a pattern for the physical, not all things are seen with the "naked" eye...rev 3:17-18

What is this primitive notion of SELF-SACRIFICE?

among jehovah's witnesses self-sacrifice is a price everybody is expected to pay.. members of this religious group are told they are being watched by the world as a public spectacle in an ancient roman coliseum.. all sorts of sacrifices must be transacted to convince jehovah of their sincerety and to titillate the worldly people with spectacular acts of faith.. .

jw's give up the best secular education and the highest-paying careers.

it is a sacrifice.. jw's have been urged to give up marriage and child-rearing to devote time to door to door evangelizing work.

obedience, submission, self-sacrifice...in a healthy relationship these acts are an indication of mutual respect and compromise.
