Rev 17:9 - Thoughts?

rev 17:9 describes something about the "woman", the harlot, babylon the great:.

here is where the intelligence that has wisdom comes in: the seven heads mean seven mountains, where the woman sits on top.

and there are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet arrived, but when he does arrive he must remain a short while.. i was dreaming about this verse last night, so i thought i'd look it up.

dear Joe Grundy...

one reason for the law was to separate a people out of the nations for God. this separateness is an aspect of the holiness of God as well. Through this separate nation came the oracles of God. So, when looking at the nation of israel we should be aware of BOTH the law and the prophets.

the first christians were jewish, they were separated unto the law AND through Jesus they were given more insight into the oracles...God revealed His plan for this people more fully. As gentiles became christians the same idea of being a people separated unto God was in view. (the one people called israel) this is one way of showing a bridge between OT and NT faith in One God.

Another way is in the teaching of grace or mercy...the sacrificial system was a means to obtain Gods mercy from year to year because it is impossible to keep the law in it's entirety. Especially Jews who desired to SUBMIT to God were dependant on His mercy through their sacrificial offering. (Maybe you can see a mind obeying and a heart submitting kind of difference there?) that's why Jesus said to the pharisees that they did everything that the law required but they forgot justice and mercy...their heart wasn't in it, so to speak. Jesus is our sacrifice for the mercy of God.

When Jesus came He magnified the law showing that being separated to God and being holy is more than "keeping" the law in external observance, but "keeping" this law, that separates us from the nations, in our heart...the inward man. I suppose this is where I can mention that yes, there are millions of people who are good and honest hearted who obey PART of the golden rule but, they haven't obeyed all of it because they haven't acknowledged God (in the law and the prophets).(Matthew 7:12)...that is about submission.

i am confused... but then, i will have to wait and see what happens.. somehow - change is not the best option but we adjust..have most of the users gone to other locations?.

I've noticed that a few people have new user names and so I wanted to forego sending a pm to the old "avitar" but I wanted...you...to know:

I've been kind of troubled by "stuff" for the last month or so and because of that I just didn't feel like sending out the Christmas cards that I usually do...I'm sorry about that. I know the joy of finding a card in the mail because it isn't a bill...lol. Anyway to all those who I DO think about throughout the year...I still hold you in my heart and hope that you are richly blessed in the New Year...xoxo

do we understand these three words: worship, idolatry, and blasphemy?.

most christians have a vague notion of worship, idolatry, and blasphemy already, but.

a clear definition is necessary.. we must take care to differentiate, however.. how the words appear in original language and how they are defined today might be at odds.. ____________________.

Each individual JW "from the least to the greatest" needs to look upon what is causing death before they can see their grave sin and acknowledge their need for life.

I understand that you want to remain neutral about "God stuff". I just wonder if you haven't done what you cautioned him against, ie: taking something away with nothing to replace it with. "I also explained, "When you open people's eyes up to the betrayal of trust you HARM THEM by taking away their safety net and destroy their WORLD! You inflict a wound! What are you prepared to REPLACE that with? Are you going to tell them to go to a Baptist Church, or become an atheist? You see, they have to SEE THE NEED TO GET OUT as survival of sanity. That's the only way which works."...

When you overheard the initial conversation and made the decision to step in it wasn't a question of his survival of sanity...

judging from what you've written so far I think that perhaps you and he don't share the same perception of the dynamics of your "relationship"...I hope that everything turns out all right and he isn't brought to psychological harm by what can only become an increasing void once his trust of others, familial relationships and friends are seen as "conditional"...

All I'm saying is this: It wouldn't hurt to be reminded that he has faith in someone and he can maintain that connection in a tangible way (when other thoughts and circumstances are chaotic) by reading his bible. you did it yourself in prison...it may be his only safety net.
