Treefrog: the people on this site are intelligent enough to make an informed choice on any religion and do not need a person to save us from whatever sins you think we live in.There are what I consider scholars on this site and can answer any questions on religion if the person chooses to post a question and recieve an answer and not feel like they are being judged by you or anyone else. Most of us come here not seeking enlightenment on any religion to begin with. You will arrive at that conclusion if you will read other posts. If you feel the need to convert people there are many other sites to go too. Those of us who were in the Jw religion know you cannot tell us anything beyond what is your own opinion.I, for one, would not presume to tell you why the catholic faith could be false and since you view the Pope as an infallible person you are wrong.I neither know nor do I have any interest. If I do I will make a post and you may answer it.Please accord us the same courtesy. All of us spent years being preached at and told if we did not agree then we are beyond hope.We all left a very condescending religion and all its claptrap and do not need it here. Most of us here will agree with Arthur Balfour who said"a religion that is small enough for our understanding would not be large enough for our needs"

It would have to be E.W.Bullinger who lived in the early 20th century.Published many books and studies that are still considered standards by many scholars.

You DON'T Have To Listen To The Elders If They Say They Want To Meet ....
by minimus ineveryone that is in the process of leaving dreads the thought of having the elders approach them, call them, etc.
the fact is----just because they say they want to meet with you or just because 2 elders stop by to visit you----you don't have to deal with them at all.
simply tell them you won't meet with them, you won't talk to them.

Simply put, a JC is just a 21st century term to replace the term witch hunt.A person must realize that if they choose to go to these things they are telling themselves that even tho I do not agree with the WTBS claptrap I still want to remain approved to stay in the org.which is why I am here.Put yourself thru the hoops for these "men" and do what they say and simply lay aside all your dignity and self worth and the JC will have served what it was set up to do:Make you submit to an authority that rules every aspect of your life and holds the keys to life and death. You cannot disagree with it and stay a JW.It is that elementary. If you decide to leave write a letter saying you want nothing more to do with this religion and no further meetings are needed. Someone once said that what is easily understood should not need discussion. These JC serve no purpose to someone who really wants to leave as they are not needed to leave.Their purpose is to only degrade someone who wants to stay in for various reasons but does not have the true desire to leave. It just boils down to whether you have the ability to take control of your life and leave and not look back and regret it or submit yourself to an authority who will control it for you.

"even if it wasn't the truth,i would rather live with it then without it"
by MonkeyPrincess in"life is so much easier (for me anyways) keeps me sane with all the stuff that goes on in the world,, or maybe thats my passive personality" .
that is the comment my (younger) sister made to me while we were on chat the other day.
i tried to explain to her to do research on the wtbts before she really decided this is what she wanted for her life.

What kind of JW response do you think I'll get?
by Bubbamar inin my moms last letter she stated that me, my sister and her should all just "move on" meaning put our hurts and anger behind us and work towards having better relationships.
however, in the same letter she clarified that disfellowshipping is "discipline" and she intends to continue shunning me.
so i wrote back asking her what "moving on" means for her.

It is a sad thing to read your exp. and as someone who was a servant for years I spewed forth just what your mother wrote but thankfully I got out of that yo-yo group and have never been happier. Her letter is really a generic Jw response and the double standard is typical. This religion has much to answer for in regard to tearing people and the family apart and I really feel for you having to exp. it first hand.Sadly there is not much you will be able to do to change her mind at present.JWs have a shut down mode when it comes to this type of thing and only respond by whatever the last Watchtower said on the subject and when you deal with a closed mind all reasoning is stopped..Concentrate on yourself and your own happiness and you will be the better for it believe me.Know that you are a can-do person and do not let this cultic group cast a rope around your feet to trip you so take a big pair of scissors, cut it, and march on with a big grin on your face and don't feel bad about it!!

Remembering
by Granny Linda ini spoke with my elderly aunt yesterday about much of what i've read over this past week...catching up on the best of series...well, some of it anyhow; and her comments echoed much of what many former jw's have already spoken of.. she reminded me how many years ago when her one grandchild needed a blood transfusion and her daughter had called in a panic...my aunt simply told her to do what she felt for best for the child - not the church.
or, the sometimes humerous stories of field service - the dreaded thought that someone might actually answer their door.
my aunt releated how her own father had once asked if she wanted to "pioneer" and when my aunt told him, "no" my grandfather had the most shocked look on his face.

There is a King James edition called The Companion Bible with marginal notes on each page and is very well written by a bible scholar that many people have never heard of, E.W.Bullinger. A hebrew and greek scholar, this is one you will find helpful in your research. I think you can get it at www.kregalpublications.com..
