The man was renowned for his apologetics, and his other literary works. The OP posts on the internet. Who should I esteem higher? C.S. Lewis wins hands down.

by XJW4EVR inlast friday morning, my wife was attacked while waiting to transfer between buses.
normally, she has the car, and i commute to school, however this day i had to take the car in for some repairs, and then commute to school.
she fought off this guy for some time, and walked away with scratches, scrapes, and some bruises.

Hi folks,
Thank you for all well wishes. They are all very appreciated. My wife is healing physically form the cuts, scratches and bruises she suffered at the hands of this walking piece of human debris.
It seems that this walking piece of human debris was on parole (for what we were not told). My wife spoke with his parole officer this morning, and needless to say this incident will be placed in his criminal file. I guess that is why they asked for so much bail.
I will keep you updated as time permits. Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart. -

Last Friday morning, my wife was attacked while waiting to transfer between buses. Normally, she has the car, and I commute to school, however this day I had to take the car in for some repairs, and then commute to school. She fought off this guy for some time, and walked away with scratches, scrapes, and some bruises. However, the emotional and mental trauma has taken its toll. Not to mention the fact that I feel enormously guilty over what happened to her.
Tuesday we spent a good portion of the morning with the D.A. reviewing the case, and then went down to LAPD HQ in order to get new photos of the bruises that have come up since the attack. The attacker was caught, because her fighting him off tired him out so much that he laid down just before the LAPD arrived. According to the D.A. they are charging him with kidnapping and assault with intent to rape, and attempted rape. He is in jail on a $2 million dollar bail. She, and I will begin counseling over this within the next week or so.
I have missed the last week of school over this. It's as if I don't want to let her out of my sight. I am supposed to keep these sorts of things from happening to her. It happened because I wanted the car fixed so that we could have the car for the weekend. She got hurt, nearly raped, and could have been murdered so that our weekend would by more convenient.
I say all this as basis for asking those of you that are Christian to pray for us, and for those that are not to do whatever positive things you do for the sake of others in bad situations such as this. I will respond as I can. Thank you in advance for your kind words, and any advice you may have. -

ARE YOU PRO-UNION OR ANTI-UNION?
by Mary inwould you rather work in a unionized or non-unionized environment?
the place where i work recently voted 'no', we don't want a union in here (after being harassed by a very large union for the last 5 years).
there were some who voted 'yes', but the majority of us voted 'no' and those that were pro-union are quite pissed off that the rest of us 'fail to see the light'.

It depends on what industry you are speaking of. If you are speaking of government workers, grocery workers, school teachers and teamsters, then I am anti-union. When you see government workers you see a bunch of lazy people with poor attitudes that really could care less about you and the problem or situation you are dealing with.
Grocery workers should not be getting paid $15-$20 per hour for sweeping products across a laser scanner (with an attitude as poor as their government brethren). This is the main reason why I do not shop at the unionized local markets, and instead shop at Fresh & Easy, which is non-union, and where I get better service (when was the last time you were escorted to the salsa at your local unionized grocers?).
School teachers, specifically the ones here in Los Angeles, have consistently been opposed to any sort of reform that would place the education of the children over their leadership's desire to have total control over the indoctrination, err education of the children that are in their charge.
Teamsters, and specifically the leadership of that union, have sold their members down the creek by allowing Mexican trucks to be driven in America by non-union Mexican scab drivers.
If you are speaking of these unions, then I am anti-union. Other than these, it is a case by case basis. -

VoidEater says:
"I wouldn't have thought any "convincing" was necessary. Is it obvious yet? Just curious..."
Please go back and re-read my post. I think you missed the context of that statement. -

It still boggles my mind that there are deluded Democrats/liberals that still think there was some fix in the 2000 elections. The facts are simple Nader pulled enough votes from Gore in the key state of Florida to cost him the election. What is more, had Nader not run, a good portion of the nearly 2.9 million votes Nader got would have more than likely gone to Gore and given him the presidency.
To me the problem is not the "doofi" that voted for Bush, but the 'doofi" that voted for Nader, and the "doofi" that continue in their incessant whining about 2000 and the results that their "enlightened" brethren foisted on America.
What is more, it was the non-stop barrage of Bush bashing from the chronic Bush haters that kept a lot of people , including myself, from voting Democrat in 2004. The issue is simple, too many of you relegated people like us to "doofi." Rather than attempting to make peace, and convince our hearts and minds that Bush was bad for this country, you instead insulted our intelligence, our faith, and our convictions. Causing most of us to vote for Bush in 2004, and eventually seeing the folly of our ways.
So the real problem was not the "doofi" but the 2.88 million "enlightened" voters in 2000, that caused this country to go down the road it is currently on. -

I was stuck in a library doing research, and emerged in order to view the eclipse and grab something to eat from Subway. AS I was chatting with the person making my sandwich, I asked if her and the other young lady working had gotten a chance to see the eclipse. Before I finished asking that question, the young lady, who was very pregnant, ran into the back in hysterics. Shocked, I asked the other person what happened. She said that when her mother was pregnant with her little brother there was an eclipse, and because of that her brother was born with one ear smaller than the other. I did not know whether or not to laugh hysterically or express my pity over the belief of such third world fables. I decided to take a third tact, and just drop the whole conversation. However, I left shaking my head that there are people in this world that still believe that sort of tripe.

I read your post a few days ago, but decided not to post until I really thought about what you were saying. Here are my two cents.
In regards to the "innocent" old woman deceived by the WT$. The response is simple: Romans chapters 1, 2 & 3 say that no one will be able to excuse themselves before God. This includes everyone from the garden variety pagan all the way down to the most pious Jew. They all stand before God as sinners (there is no such thing as an innocent person to God), and as such are deserving of eternal separation from God. Yes, eternal separation from God, and not a burning hell.
I think your presuppositions are faulty because no where in Christianity are we taught that how we worship determines our eternal destiny. I realize that this may come as a shock to you, but it's true. Christianity is not about doing something for God, but rather what God has DONE for us. That is what Paul continues on with in 4 , 5 & 6 of Romans. That salvation comes not from works, but rather from the death and resurrection of Jesus.
I realize that this may be new to you, and to tell you the truth it may also be knew to that evanjelly-fish nimnue Christian you were speaking to, but this is what the NT teaches about sinners, hell and salvation.
By the way your post did not offend me, but what that evanjelly-fish told you did.
I hope this answers some of your questions. If you, or anyone else wishes to dialog further, I welcome the opportunity.

Anonymous protests Scientology worldwide. Will this work against JW's too?
by mavie inover 9,000 protesters, media coverage worldwide, scientology embarrassed all over the internet.
.
can the ex-jw community pull this off?

Protests will work provided they are organized correctly. I would suggest a weekday (in order to get maximum play on the news). And a date which a slow news cycle is expected, say after the elections. What is more, there must be a worldwide protest. This is what made the Anonymous protest of the CoS effective. If any of you have gone to xenu.net you can see photos posted from protests in every major city in the world.
I think an organized protest of the summer conventions could also be effective. This protest would give a good counter to the usual happy gas that the Watchtower BS Society usually spews at that time. Does anyone have a list of the summer conventions available? This would be good to have in order to pick a date for maximum effectiveness.
There is a lot of logistical work that would need to be done in order to accomplish this, however, I believe that it could be done, and be done in a manner that will bring maximum effectiveness.
