Good for you! After many attempts, I finally gave up the habit 6 1/2 years ago. So glad I did. However, it sure wasn't easy. Even now, every once in a great while, a craving will hit me. NO MATTER WHAT I never seriously consider smoking again.
NOT EVEN JUST ONE! IT IS SIMPLY NOT AN OPTION ANYMORE.

just a small request to you all.. britian is not england.. england is a part of britian, as is wales, scotland .a lot of what you may think is english is in fact welsh or scotish.. it is like me refering to the usa as new york .. if this carries on i'll have no other choice but to call the usa canada.

And my brain having only limited capacity, there just wasn't enough space to store it. So many secret codes, passwords, etc. My pretty little head would explode if I tried to cram in one more.
So, I lurked for a few months. Interesting, indeed, for me. I had to shut up and read.
Besides, I have discovered that I have a compulsion to change my user name. Alas, I shall never make Jedi. I am truly living up to my claim that "status" means NOTHING to me! LOL

I think you make a good point, however, I keep getting hung up on the word respect.
I DO NOT, WILL NOT, EVER respect the beliefs of the WTS and those that choose to support their doctines. Why would I respect a belief system that destroyed my family? That would deny life-saving blood transfusions for children?
Now, tolerance is a different matter. If JW doctrine falls within the perimeters of what is legal, I suppose I really don't have a choice. Yet, if a doctrine doesn't, why should I have to tolerate that?If it is illegal, it SHOULD NOT be tolerated.
Now, does that mean I get into debates with every JW I encounter? No.
I don't bring the subject up, unless they do first. Then, they are fair game. I certainly don't attack, but make my opinions on the subject of the WTS abundantly clear.
Could my opinions be interpeted as intolerant?

hi there everyone, i have posted a few times but after reading some life stories i decided to put mine on here in a condensed version.i don't know about anyone else but it helps me to read other peoples life stories, kind of validates that "hey, i'm not crazy, it was the org.

i posted on the belief board last week when i started reading a book by thich nhat hanh.
i read the chapter on self-love and was deeply moved.
i know society, but especially the borg tells people to be selfless and do all these things for others and the borg, that we tend to feel awful about ourselves.

For myself, I have to say that I do not buy into the whole “self-love” thing. The very practical side of my personality rejects the whole concept.
Also, I think that the issue of body “acceptance” and appreciating what positive qualities, other than the aesthetics, an individual believes they possess are two separate topics.
First off: body acceptance. Beyond that, actually loving our bodies. Now, for American women, that is like climbing Mt. Everest. Quite frankly, I don’t think I will ever be able to get to the top of that place. I have a very long and complicated history with body image. However, I do much better these days. At 40, most of the time, I’m pretty much grateful that everything, for the most part, works. I’m physically healthy and can still do a cartwheel. Do I always like the way I look? Hell no! However, I sure don’t beat myself up like I used to. My priorities have changed and I have redefined what is important to me.
Now, for the “I can’t love anyone, unless I love myself first” statement. I always found that statement to be rather odd. That would require a definition of love, in my opinion. Lords knows there are probably as many definitions of love as there are posters on this discussion board. Regardless, I would have to say that I do not love myself. Most of the time, however, I DO have self-respect. I won’t go into detail about that because that it a whole topic in itself. So, I believe that SELF-RESPECT is much more important than self-love.
Anyway, so, I don’t love myself. I still LOVE my children. I still LOVE my spouse. I still LOVE my family (well, most of them anyway). I don’t need to love MYSELF in order to love others. That being stated, let me add that I think that everyone need to do those things that bring them satisfaction and meaning. Also, indulging in or buying something that is just “for me”. The need to recharge our batteries is part of the human condition. Why does something so basic have to be turned into a therapy session?
So, that’s from my perspective. Thanks for the topic WW.

i am very distraught tonight.
i think i told the board back around the new year that the make a wish foundation was going to grant my 7 year old cousins wish that has cerebral palsy.
he has been so excited, he was going to leave april 15th.

I am going to chime in here. I had an encounter with the Make a Wish organization almost 10 years ago when my daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia.
A few months after the diagnoses, I contacted Make a Wish regarding a wish being granted for my daughter. I was asked what illness she had. I replied with type of Leukemia she have diagnosed with. The gentleman on the other end of the phone line informed me that the survival rate on that type of Leukemia was relatively high, so my daughter WOULD NOT "qualify" for a wish, i.e. not terminal. However, at that point, I had no idea if she was going to survive or not. With Cancer, it can literally be day to day. His business-like manner on the phone took me back a bit.
Later, I spoke to one of the hospital personnel that was involved with treating my daughter and she informed me that Make a Wish is really only interested in kids with illness and wishes that can get them lots of publicity. Hence, kids with terminal illness that have wishes that will get them on the evening news or in the newspaper.
Luckily, there are other organizations that also grant wishes that do not have such a criteria. The one that was used by the hospital that treated my daughter only cared about whether or not she was ill. Being terminal was not a prerequisite to get a wish granted.
Another thing that is bad about the "terminal" requirement is that older kids, especially teenagers, are not in the dark about their illnesses. Getting a wish granted by Make A Wish would mean they are toast.
YES! I am grateful my kid was not terminal, however, I find Make A Wishes tactics and behavior absolutely disgusting!
