I guess I'm confused why is that so suspicious? Lots of people cut their hair now for cancer patients etc.

You are correct. Many people do this very generous and loving gesture. And I hope that Dutchie actually DID donate her hair. I've spend much time in children's cancer clinics and the loss of hair can very tramatic for some kids, especially teenagers. Wigs made from donated human hair can give those kids one less thing to worry about and allow them to focus on their treatment.

I only question this specifcally because Dutchie started a thread announcing that she had had her very long hair cut. Because she mentioned her long hair often enough in her posts, I felt that it was quite a sacrafice for her and was deeply touched by it. Because she may have lied in other situations, for me, puts everything she ever wrote suspect. Still, I do know that she was very kind, and loving, to many, many people on the forum.

Dutchie was the one who announced to the forum that Queenie(Who I also miss on this forum) was in the hospital. Queenie was long misunderstood on this forum and in part because of Dutchie, we began to understand, and then admire her.

In the end, I just don't understand why anyone would need to changed who they are online. I hold no ill will against Dutchie and I hope that she is happy and well.

Actually, I was wondering about what happened to her, myself. Someone brave enough to post the details? I'm very curious.

I found parts of her situation/story a little incredible, but figured that stranger things have happened to other people.

So, was her hair cutting story a fabrication too? Now, THAT would piss me off.

"She" also hated that we posted about sex so much.

Would you take blood now that you are not a JW and why?

i have a friend, xjw, who is having medical problems and no matter what i seem to say to her, i can tell she has not gotten over the issue of <gasp> no blood.

since the no blood stand was so ingrained in us as jws (almost like the unforgivable sin) my friend just cant seem to let go of that thinking.

i know i get too clinical at times, so i need some help with reasons why taking blood is or is not an issue for you anymore.

Just another little point. The transfusion of WHOLE blood products is the exception rather than the norm. JWs try to make it sound like doctors are just leaping at the chance to ~~contaminate~~ infuse them. Depending on a patients needs, most would get a blood component (platelets, red blood cells, etc.)

Until I had to start taking medication, I was a blood donor for years. Well into the gallons. I have the needle scars to prove it! A lady I worked with got me started when I was in my early twenties. What a gratifying and profound experience. If you ever have the opportunity to give blood, and can manage it healthwise, please do it!

Also, my child is alive today as a direct result of blood transfusions. I would do it again without hesitation.

being nice gets your heart broken, gets you walked all over, and taken advantage of.

whenever someone sees you as a nice guy, they'll see you as a person they can take advantage of, and you'll let them because you're nice..

I remember when I first met my husband, I was struck by just how nice, and considerate, he was to me. After constantly being hit on by idiots, who never got anywhere with me BTW, I found his demeanor refreshing.

I kinda like to think he didn't finish last.

i've been meaning to post about this situation but kept putting it off.

now that it's the weekend and i've got the week behind me and i'm a little more relaxed i'm going to go ahead and lay it on y'all if you don't mind.

but if they want to make tech pay then they need to become tech's and do the work.

You sound so much like my husband. He's a truck driver, and in a class by himself. He's won numerous awards and other companies are always trying to lure him away from his current job. He makes more than the average because he is so incredibly organized (unlike his scattered wife) and hard working. He also takes excellent care of his equipment and has a good attitude.

Well, of course, this has bred envy, and jealousy, among fellow drivers because they feel they are getting shortchanged and that my husband is kissing someone's ass.
What their problem is they are not willing to work as hard, and as smart, as my husband.

My spouse was the target of a plot to get him to quit. His company had brought in a new management team and they wanted to get rid of the "old-timers", especially my husband. Outrageous allegations were made. For example: My husband was single-handedly responsible for the company losing a very big account. This was a bald-faced lie and an attemped cover-up of bungling by the operations manager. For months he was harassed by a few midlevel flunkies with accusations of various transgressions allegedly committed by him.

In the end, they finally hung themselves with their own rope. That new management team was fired about four months ago. And my husband's reputation is a shiny as ever. The bottom line is the bottom line. He makes them lots of money for them and that always wins out. Though, going through it can be described as distressful and frustrating.

But like I said in the last sentence, and it's something the owners of the company have told managers too, if you want tech pay get out there and do the work.

And I will add, that YOU do not set the pay scale. It's interesting how people, instead of looking at themselves, and what they can do to change their own situation, will scapegoat the people they envy for the shortcomings that they, themselves, posess.

LOL @ E-man's map. I remember you posted that when I first came to the forum nearly two years ago and I about spit up my coffee I laughed so hard. Unfortunately, it's all so true.

Well, I had something happen today that would qualify as one of those Jaywalk moments. I'm at the grocery store getting my purchases tallied up. The girl bagging my groceries is about to graduate from high school and was talking with the clerk about how she is not sure if she wants to go directly to college. Perhaps some world travel would be more to her liking. After a year, then she would begin college. The clerk, a gentleman in his 50's, suggests somewhat tongue in cheek that she join the military. That he, himself, "saw some of the world" that way.

To that I quipped: "Well, see the world and maybe fight in a war, or two."

To which the gentlemen clerk commented that at least they didn't have to fight where he did. So, the girl asks what war he is talking about, "Vietnam" he says. She is taken back "Wow! you are THAT old?!"

Not looking up from writing my check I say "Ouch!"

Then the girl asks "When WAS the Vietnam war?"

Gentleman clerk: "64 through 71"

Girl: "Wow! I thought it happened around 1920!"

Me: "Oops, wrong war."

Why are Canadians envious of Americans?

the whole discussion on "america" made me wonder the above.. by the way the war of 1812 wasn't against canadians but against the brits and won by americans after the battle of new orleans--which inspired one of the funniest lines in folk music, penned by jimmy driftwood and sung by the great johnny horton:.

..."we fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down.. so we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.. we filled his head with cannon balls, and powdered his behind.

What Do The English & Australians Think Of Americans On This Board???

it seems to me that this board's force comes mainly from our english and aussie friends.

i've read comments that some have gotten annoyed that the society and gb seem to only stress the "american" english in their style of writing.

i'm just curious as to what you think of your american brethren.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you there, Mulan. Whilst you may be able to laugh at yourself, there is the observation that Americans take themselves far too seriously (the war topic is a recent example). The slightest hint of criticism of America or Americans is viewed as "America-bashing", and many Americans take such criticism personally, as if we were attacking them.
Maybe this applies to a possible vocal minority, but this is my observation of Americans on this board.

Well, when one observes a few individuals who seem to delight in taking ignorant potshots at every available opportunity, one feels compelled to respond in kind.

Such as the following:

You are correct. The title doesn't say nearly enough, because the title In And Out is not reflective of the quality of food served there, but refers mostly to the era in which is was founded, the 1950s Southern California. But, most intelligent people understand that the title does not make the book.

IN and Out is almost always voted the best burger when people voted for their favorite burger place. But then again, we are AMERCANS and don't have the highly developed palate like those such as yourself, right?

Well, for me personally, I have no problem with her living in England. You all can have her! LOL!

Listen, I understand that she can done something very difficult in her industry. That is, stay on top for nearly 20 years.

My problem in that what she finds abhorrent for her own child, she finds no problem selling it to the children of others. Must pay for the nannies, you know! (insert fake British accent)

So, in honor of her monumental hypocrisy, she can take her high falutin' proclamations, fold them in four corners, and stuff them where the sun don't shine!
