Beggers

every day either on the way to work or coming home i pass people with signs begging on the side of the road.
i'm curious if anyone here gives them money....i have from time to time, i tend to give more to women then men...i suppose i identify more with them...a kind of "under different circumstances that could be me" feeling i get... .

I never give them money. The vast majority of the time, it's a scam to get money for alcohol or drugs. And I don't have any problem looking them in the eye when they stand on the freeway off ramps.
Off course, they have the "key phrases" to get them sympathy and induce our guilt: "Veteran", "God bless", and of course, " Hungry, will work for food".
I figure if they can stand in the blazing 100+ degree heat for hours panhandling, they can certainly flip burgers.
The last two instances I encountered panhandlers were in store parking lots. When I spot them making a beeline towards me, I make it clear to keep away by saying "Don't approach me, please". So far, they have turned and walked away.
Though, I very much believe in helping those who help themselves. To those people who find themselves in dire circumstances, and need help to get back to their feet and are doing all they can to improve their situation, I have much compassion and an open wallet.

Flowers At Work

i got some today from a friend for my birthday..nothing really fancy...but it's just so cool when they come in with flowers and you wonder who they are for....and they are for you!.

Not quite as much fun when you're a SAHM.
I remember sending my then boyfriend/now spouse, a bouquet of long stemmed cookies at work. Eighteen years later, he still has the card I sent with them, in his wallet.

Just plain rude!

the whole experience started off bad.
the minute we walked in, the waitreses looked me up and down and started talking chinese loudly to each other.

Speaking Chinese in front of you isn't exactly rude. Just as is it isn't rude for French or Italian staff to speak in their mother tongues.
I would strongly disagree. Speaking, right in front of your customers, in a language that you know they don't understand, especially WHEN YOU CAN SPEAK THEIR TONGUE, is extremely rude IMO. Yes, it gives a very strong impression that they are speaking about you and don't want you to understand.
I've had this happen to me. The two clerks just chattering away in Spanish pretending I'm not there. One time, I got so annoyed that I said:
"YO! CUSTOMER HERE! You know, the reason YOU are here?! Perhaps you can at least have the courtesy to ignore me in a language I can understand."

Uh, so? Don't lay down on the floor, and I won't wipe my feet on ya! Certainly wasn't spoiled by her Daddy, but don't take crap from men, and teaches her daughter the same, class.

How Do You Cope With Stress?
by shamus ini have a hard time coping with it, seeing as i have an anxiety disorder.
how do you not think of things like work, relationships, money, getting a cat, etc.

I don't cope with stress. I eliminate the cause of the stress.

Ok, seriously.
These also help me keep depression away. If I start slacking, I feel the dark clouds gather over my head.
1. Strenous exercise.
2. Healthy eating. Lots of dark greens, low fat, and watch the sugar.
3. Good nights sleep. Hopefully 8 hours.
4. I love scented candles and to help me unwind I light them up when the sun starts to go down. The soft light and aroma have a soothing and calming affect on me.
5. If I have had an very tough day, I have some really good yoga dvds. Short, basic, and easy to do. That's helps to ease the stress also.
I'm not against medication. Some people really need it. So, my opinion is that to do whatever works.

Of course, the irony of this statement was that, my Father, himself a "brother" would steal and cheat on a regular basis.
