Why do they go back?
by zenpunk ini always hear at least two stories a year about someone i know who's left the "truth" goes back despite the trauma surrounding their departure.
this morning i heard yet another story.
a few years ago and elder's wife in my former uk congregation abruptly left the organization, surprising everyone and getting a big df in the process.

This is why I don't like transfusions.......
by VioletAnai in.
there's just too much risk...especially if your life is in the hands of these officials:.

Listen, Violet,
I think that MOST of us do not ASPIRE to have blood transfusions. Also, the risk of accepting a blood transfusion has to be weighed against not having one. Such as in the case of Acute Leukemia. No blood, or fractions, usually means certain death.
Quite frankly, I am willing to bet that FAR MORE people have perished as a result of NOT accepting a transfusion when needed, than those that have and received "tainted" blood.
What happened in that article is awful. Hopefully, not too many people were affected by it. Yet, let's stay in reality here, ok?

My chat with Elder Dad. (I'm angry!!)
by home_and_dry ini feel the need for a rant!
i had a conversation with my jw elder father tonight that has left me seething.
just to set the scene, i left the jws back in 1994. i was baptized, having been dfd and reinstated a couple of years prior to my final exit in 94. i was never dfd again and pretty much left to my own devices.

Hi Home,
I understand that the pressure had probably been building, and you decided to let some steam off at your Dad. I know with my own Dad, for years I desperately wanted him to be the loving Father I always dreamed of. I realize, it ain't ever gonna happen.
As someone once said to me:
"Why do you keep taking your bucket to a dry well expecting to find water"?
So, I don't anymore. You are fortunate to be able to have the relationship you do with him. Plus, your children get to see him. Let it be. Keep the Org out of it, best as you can.
As far as marriage. I'm for getting married before the kids. I think that the piece of paper is an important symbol of public commitment to ones partner. However, I know that some can work without it. Just be sure to have your legal affairs kept up to date and in order! Very important, especially in the US if one is in a long term relationship without marriage. Plus, don't let the money thing stand in your way. The "Princess For A Day" thing is WAY overrated.

My son died of Luekimia been there read
by rekless infirst of all there are several different types of leukemia.
danny had acute lymphatic leukemia, he became ill at two years old...this was in 1972... he lived for 16 years died two weeks after he graduated from high school.. now...he never had an ounce of blood during the 16 years of treatment.
he underwent chemo theropy.. this was the worste class of childhood leukemia at that time.. this form was considered cured if the child remained in remission for five years...there was a 50-50 chance of those that had lymphatic leukemia would be cured by the 1980's he fell in the class that did not.. for five years he would be in remission then the drugs stopped working and he would have to under-go another type og chemo.

I'm so sorry about all of the difficult life circumstances you have had fall on your head. I know what it can be like. You hang in there, kiddo! Even if it is by your fingernails.
Even with everything that has happened, you are still able to see opportunity in your future. You have one heck of a spirit!

My JW mom's response to Dateline
by buffy ini actually decided to call my mom and ask her if she saw dateline and what she though of it.
she said she even taped it.
she said, "that abuse must be a problem or jehovah wouldn't have let it be brought out like that.

Hey, at least she acknowledged there were problems within the Organization. There is definitely hope for your Mom!
This comment did jump off the page at me though.
She ended the conversation w/, "well, we're all imperfect. The organization needs weeded out and this is how it'll be done. If it takes a program like Dateline to wake up the gb then so be it.
Yep, Jehovah is going to use Satan to do the weeding too.

Mom - Why do you treat me like the damned!
by zenpunk innot that my mom would ever visit this site - but i have to just vent.
last night my mom promised she would meet me at home to help me move some furniture.
she made it seem like it was a tremendous deal and the only reason why she would be by would be because she had something else to do in the neighbourhood.

LOL!
I laugh, but I know that was written with the utmost sincerity.
It makes me think of a woman that I worked with when I was about 20. She was in her 60's and very attractive. She was giving me a ride home from work, as my car was in the repair shop. Somehow, the subject of conversation touched on sex. I will never forget what she said to me:
"When my husband and I first got married 35 years ago, I gave him choice. Either I cook in the kitchen, or I "cook" in the bedroom."
"BTW: she continued "We are eating out tonight".
